(MUSIC) At the start of every day in the OR, all surfaces are damp dusted to remove any dust accumulation. Using a preference card or Epic sheet, the items needed for the surgical case are picked and placed in the OR. Personal protective equipment is put on including mask, bouffant, and eye protection. (MUSIC) Supplies are placed on the OR bed and are opened onto the back table using sterile technique, careful not to compromise sterility. (MUSIC) Using aseptic technique, a surgical scrub is performed followed by drying the hands and donning a sterile gown and gloves. (MUSIC) A sterile field is then created. (MUSIC) Every fluid on the field must be labeled by the tech. The circulator will read the name, dosage, and expiration dates of the tech, who will look at the bottle and verify all information before it is introduced to the field. (MUSIC) The surgical technologist must count all sponges, sharps, and instruments with a circulating RN. (MUSIC) The surgical tech will also assist the surgeon with draping the patient. (MUSIC) During the surgery, the surgical technologist will anticipate the needs of the surgeon and pass all instruments and supplies to the surgeon that are needed to complete the case. After the case, the surg tech will assist with room turnover, getting the OR ready for the next surgical case. (MUSIC)
