[music] Whether you work for a small, family size business or an industry giant, the Urban Pest Management Program on the University of Georgia’s Griffin campus has training programs designed to meet your needs. Termite treatment workshops are taught at the Georgia Structural Pest Control Training Facility located on the Griffin campus. The training center was built as a training tool for termite control professionals, inspectors with the Georgia Department of Agriculture, and UGA Cooperative Extension agents. The center’s 3,000 square foot unfinished foundation is built of various construction types used in typical Georgia homes. UGA and Georgia Department of Agriculture experts teach termite treatment methods in a very hands-on visual way through the outdoor classroom facility. Completion of the one and a half day program provides 11 certification hours and 6 registration hours. Graduates also earn a certificate of completion and an attractive uniform patch to highlight their training to their customers. Integrated Pest Management workshops focus on helping technicians make logical treatment decisions based on the sound IPM principles. Completion of the IPM workshop earns participants 7 certification hours and 6 registration hours. In addition to termite treatment and IPM workshops, the UGA Urban Pest Management Program offers a 10-week Urban and Structural Pest Management Certificate Program. This program is worth 26 certification hours and 26 registration hours. The lecture series exposes pest management technicians to several aspects of the pest management industry, such as sales, customer service, and legal affairs, in addition to the traditional material on biology and management of urban insect pests. A highlight of both the IPM workshop and the Certificate program are insect identification laboratories where attendees are shown actual samples of dozens of the most common insect pests in the urban and suburban environment in Georgia.
