(upbeat music)
- So right now we're standing
right in front of our
International Living/Learning Center
or 'ILLC' for short.
Although the title includes
'International' in the name,
it doesn't mean that you need to be
an 'international student' to apply here.
can still be 'domestic' and from Canada
and still be considered.
We're going to check out
two different room styles today,
which is the 'Single' and the 'Double.'
Let's head on inside
and take a look!
(ambient music)
(keys jingle)
(door beeps)
A fun fact about
the International Living/Learning Centre,
is that it used to be a hotel
until it was bought by the university.
So it's a really neat type of room style
which we'll be checking out.
All of the suites in here
do have bathrooms
which are inside the bedroom units.
So, it's great if you're looking
for a little bit more privacy
in that regard.
We do have our ILLC lounge
over to the side,
which is a great area for if you want
to go ahead and do schoolwork
with friends,
or just want a place to hang out
while you're doing some of your...
daily tasks, working on schoolwork,
or just want to grab a bite to eat.
We also have the cafeteria here
on the ground floor,
which we'll be taking a look at
in just a moment.
Here is one of the cafeterias
that we offer here at Ryerson Residence.
This one is located
within the base of ILLC,
but it's open to all students,
across our buildings.
So no matter where you're living,
you can still go ahead and access here.
We have drink machines here on the side,
lots of space for eating.
And then we have a sign right here,
dedicated to how we really
support local foods
and incorporate that into our processes.
So here in ILLC if you are
living in this building,
you would be enrolled
in the seven-day meal plan.
However, students in the 5-day
meal plan, or also the 'Flex' option,
just having dollars loaded
onto their account in a declining balance,
would also be able to access this.
As you can see right here,
we usually have a salad and soup bar.
We have hot options,
which are provided on a daily basis.
And then we also have
a lot of different factors
which go into consideration
for allergies,
dietary restrictions,
and also just different options
that rotate throughout the week,
so that you don't become bored.
And let's go ahead and go up
to the Residence Tower,
where we can go ahead
and take a look at the rooms!
So now we're standing in front
of the resident security desk
for the International Living
/ Learning Centre.
We provide 24/7 security at
all of our residence buildings,
with ILLC included within that.
So we usually, during the school year,
have a student member
during the school day
located here at this desk,
who is able to help you with mail,
packages, or anything else
that you may need during your stay
including signing in guests.
They will go ahead and allow you
to go ahead and scan
your residence ID right here
before you go ahead
and take the elevator bank
up to see the Residence Tower.
Let's go ahead and take a look!
(elevator beeps)
Alright, so right now we're just
stepping onto one of our floors
here in ILLC.
So let's go ahead and take a look
at what that looks like.
We have our common lounge
when you step out of the elevators,
which would be a great area
for you to go ahead and meet
for weekly meetings
with your Residence Advisor.
And you can see
all these opportunities right here,
which would usually be located
on the calendar.
So come the school year,
it is full-to-the-brim
with everything happening each day.
Here in ILLC, we also have
a common lounge area,
which is fantastic for going ahead
and fitting all of your cooking needs.
So even though you're enrolled
in the seven-day meal plan
and have the cafeteria down below,
just right on the ground level,
you also can use this at any time
if you want to cook a late night snack,
or just store some food,
for your own use.
Let's go ahead now and take a look
at what some of our room styles
look like here.
Great, so now we're going to go ahead
and access ILLC.
At which you would also use your key,
insert it right in the door,
and then take a step in.
So as you can see,
it's a very bright and sunny unit.
Take a step in and you can take in the view
which is great, of the downtown.
Here would be your bed.
You can go ahead
and customize the way you want
putting a lot of pictures behind you...
A lot of students like to string up
lights in their unit.
Do anything that makes you feel
like you are at home.
There's also all the furniture
that you see here
included with the unit
so there would be
all of these dressers,
desks, interesting fun fact
that you might not realize
but this is a corkboard
which you can go ahead
and pin things to.
If you want to have your calendar,
reminders, to-do notes,
anything that might be useful to you.
Each unit here also comes included
with air conditioning and heating
which you can go ahead
and change yourself, right here.
Storage is included
on both sides of this unit
which would allow you lots of space
to go ahead and hang up your dress shirts,
or jackets, whatever you may have
to face the Canadian winters.
Let's go ahead and take a look
at the bathroom unit,
which is right here.
So as you can see here, in ILLC
you do have your personal bathroom
which is great for your use.
It's really nice for the privacy purposes
of just having this located
right inside your unit.
So if that's something you're looking for,
it's a very unique set-up
that is specific to our
International Living/Learning Centre.
Now let's go ahead and take a look at
what else ILLC has to offer.
One more thing that is really close
to the resident service desk
is also your mailbox.
So if you're living here at ILLC
you'll go ahead and be assigned a key
to one of these mailboxes,
which is great if you want
to get snail mail from home.
I really loved it during my first year,
getting postcards
from family members and friends,
and it's really convenient too,
if you do want packages,
they're going to be sent
to the residence service desk,
where you can go ahead
and get those for pick-up.
Alright, so now we'll be
heading outside of ILLC.
Once again, thank you so much
for visiting us on this tour of ILLC.
We do also have double rooms,
which we're not currently showing off
during this tour,
but we do have diagrams
which are available
and we'll be posting right now.
So just to recap,
We have our 'Single' bedroom,
and we have our 'Double' bedrooms
which are available within ILLC.
All of these units come
with a 7-day meal plan,
which can go ahead
and be used at the ILLC cafeteria
located on the grounds level,
or also at the Pitman cafeteria,
if you wish to switch things up.
We also have a lot of really great space
in the common lounge to go ahead
and spend with your Residence Advisor
and Academic Link
for different programming
and this building is home
to Living Learning communities
including Entrepreneurship and Innovation,
as well as Fashion.
Thank you so much for tuning in,
and we hope to see you in our next video.
Take care!
