BROTHER TORRES: Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can be found in countries
around the world.
Our family went on a tour of the training center in Provo, Utah, where many of these
missionaries received training.
Brother Torres, welcome to the Provo Missionary Training Center.
PRESIDENT MARTINO: I'm President Martino, and it sure is good to have you and your family here today.
Thank you.
These elders are going to show you around today for a tour.
ELDER DRUMELLER: Hi.
My name is Elder Drummo.
Hello.
Great to meet you guys.
ELDER BANTON: Hello.
I'm Elder Banton.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
ELDER DRUMELLER: All right.
Let's go.
Well, it's great to have you guys here.
This MTC has been open for nearly four decades now, and hundreds of thousands of missionaries
have come through here to learn and train before heading out to serve their missions
all over the world. [MUSIC]
Here we have the cafeteria where we get to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.
ELDER BANTON: They keep us really well fed.
I love it.
I love the endless chocolate milk.
Really good.
In the MTC, you get to meet people from all around the world, but also people that are
speaking tons of different languages from around the world.
It's really cool.
All right.
So if you'll just follow me right over here to this map, and I'll be able to show you
around the MTC campus.
So this is the building that we just walked through, and then right up here are the residency
buildings where the elders and sisters stay.
This is our building actually right here.
These right here are the old classrooms where we studied language, and then right over here
we have what will be the new buildings, which are over this direction, and they're really
cool, and so we're really excited to be able to show you those buildings.
ELDER DRUMELLER: This building is classrooms, where many of us are learning language skills, but all of
us are learning skills to just be a missionary, regardless of where we're going in the world.
[FOREIGN] [OVERLAPPING]
[FOREIGN] [OVERLAPPING]
The spirit you feel here on this campus is like none other.
You're with people who are united in the same purpose that you are.
It's all about others and trying to become like Christ. [FOREIGN] [OVERLAPPING]
ELDER BANTON: One of my favorite things in all the new buildings is just new photos and all the stuff
that they've added.
So this verse right here is really meaningful to us as missionaries and to all members of
the church, because this is from Christ himself to his disciples, any of those who follow
him, to really fulfill our purpose as missionaries and go forth and teach all nations, all people,
anyone who wants to hear the gospel, and baptize them in his name so that they can receive
the Holy Ghost. [MUSIC] [BACKGROUND]
ELDER DRUMELLER: We have about six hours a day where we're either learning the language or teaching,
and sometimes it's kind of nice to get a break from that.
And in this building up here, we've got a gym.
We can go get a haircut.
There's a post office, there's a bookstore.
Sometimes it's nice to come in here and get some stuff done. [MUSIC]
ELDER BANTON: So right here is the building where we have the devotionals and large meetings, and those
meetings are some of the best that we have here at the MTC.
But when we don't have those meetings or devotionals, the building is just a gym where we can come
and play basketball, volleyball, run around, and be able to be a little active for a bit.
Come on.
ELDER DRUMELLER: Elder and Sister Blackburn, how are you?
ELDER BLACKBURN: Good, how are you doing, Elder?
ELDER DRUMELLER: Doing all right, thanks.
Yes.
SISTER BLACKBURN: Great.
ELDER DRUMELLER: In addition to having young missionaries here, we also have senior missionaries.
How many are there right now?
SISTER BLACKBURN: There are over 60 couples here this week, and we're just having a fantastic training. [MUSIC]
LADY SPEAKER: The new buildings are phenomenal.
With all the beautiful murals and the places to ponder and to look out at beautiful landscape,
it's always peaceful.
The spirit is always there.
ELDER BANTON: And here's where we'll come on our last day.
We'll go out those doors, get on a bus, go to the airport, and get on our flight to Paris, France. [MUSIC] [BACKGROUND] [NOISE]
SISTER HOPKINSON: You learn so much here, and I feel like I really have grown.
ELDER BLOOMFIELD: The MTC focuses on the Savior, and there's a deep-rooted feeling about that here.
ELDER BRIAN: There is thousands of other missionaries here right now.
They're all going through the same experience.
ELDER STOTT: There's nothing like it, to think that you're going to get on a plane,
land on the other side of the world, and not come back for two years.
That's a pretty big deal.
You just go forward with faith, knowing that the Lord is on your side,
and you're doing what you're supposed to be doing.
SISTER SCHADE: Being a representative of Jesus Christ, I feel so honored.
Having the opportunity to represent Him, and walk with Him, and teach with Him on my mission, is phenomenal.
ELDER MALMROSE: As I learn more about the Savior, I want to love people the same way He loves them.
ELDER ROBINSON: I'm really excited to go out there. I'm excited to be out in the field.
But as I'm here in the MTC, I'm excited to be learning and to be growing,
and to be growing spiritually, and to be learning my language.
I just love it.
