9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Moving on with other types of frames,[br]including image frames. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, we looked at using the type tool[br]to draw our frame, now we're going to use 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 our rectangle or other frames which is [br]right here to draw some 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 areas for some images. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, this looks a lot like our standard[br]rectangle, but it isn't, notice here we've 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 got this X going through the rectangle? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That's a frame. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Whereas here, which is a regular [br]rectangle tool, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it acts like a shape. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Underneath the rectangle frame tool, [br]you have a circular version or 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 a polygon version, all of those are [br]great. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Remember frames are going to be used[br]to sort-of contain the area of the image, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it's almost like, um, a picture frame. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, let's just start with the rectangle [br]frame and I am simply going to 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 draw out an area where I want my image[br]to go; I just click and drag, there it is, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 there's the frame, big ol' X in the[br]middle. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now again, this is different than a [br]rectangle. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm going to use this as a place holder[br]for now, or place my image 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if I'm ready to go. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Often, you can create a design where you[br]lay it out without any of your information 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 yet, maybe you send it to a photographer,[br]they fill in the images, vice versa. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Okay, so, let's go ahead and place a[br]graphic; a couple ways to do this, its 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 going to go inside this frame, so if[br]you've clicked off for some reason, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you can click back on it, make sure you've[br]got it selected with your selection tool, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you can use the quick action down here [br]called import file or file place. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 These are the same--getcha to the same [br]place. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Okay, so file, place, you're going to[br]navigate to where your image might be, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I've got some images ready to go in this[br]Lorax folder and I'm just going to grab 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 one of them; this little Lorax,[br]here we go, open. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now, important to note, images are always[br]placed at 100% of their size, so if you're 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 working with photographs you need to [br]make sure you're working in photoshop, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 editing it correctly, sizing it to the[br]correct size and resolution before 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 putting it into InDesign. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, you can see this file actually is a[br]little bit smaller than my frame but, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that's okay, I can always adjust my frame[br]using my selection tool, so I can 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 drag it in from the top to the bottom,[br]or if you want to do that a little bit 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 quicker, so there's no space around it,[br]you can use frame fitting down here. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, there's some really good opportunities[br]here. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you can fill your frame proportionally,[br]now this is an interesting one where 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it does make it feel like it sized it,[br]but again, if your image is low quality 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you might notice some degradation,[br]so it basically filled it out 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 proportionally, so not skewing it, [br]but you do loose some of your image. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We have fit content proportionally,[br]so that will fit it towards the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 top and bottom edge, but it's not actually[br]skewed it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Then we have some fit content to frame,[br]watch what happens, this is stretch it 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so, I don't really recommend that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Same idea, uh, actually this fourth one is[br]a really good one where this one makes 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 your frame go down to size of your actual[br]image and then this autofit sometimes 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 can also be really useful, this is going[br]to, um, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 autofit your frame and your content[br]together, so those can be good. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But let's divide into what's happening in[br]this actual image. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now, we've got our frame, this is the[br]bounding box, I can see all eight 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 of those editing boxes, I can move my [br]frame in, notice I'm not moving the image 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm moving the frame because I've got the[br]frame with that blue box, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so all I'm doing is adjusting the frame,[br]image is staying the same, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the frame kind-of acts like a cropping[br]mechanism in this case, so that's useful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I can, of course, make a skewed frame by[br]using my direct selection tool. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I can also, think about how to work with[br]the actual image. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now, so far, I've only been using the[br]frame. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The image itself, if you hover over, [br]in this middle zone, you get what's called 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 content grabber, click here, just once, [br]now, we have a new colorful edge, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 this is like this orange kind-of golden[br]color, right? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You see that? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, that is the image, not the frame,[br]the moment you enter the content 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 grabber, you're working with the image. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If I move, notice I'm moving the image, [br]you can see the orange bounding box, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I've just shifted this whole image over, [br]which is getting it really misaligned 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to my frame, so be really careful,[br]now look, my frame is in the same spot, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but my image is way over. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If you want to size up or down, scaling,[br]your actual image, not the frame, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 this is where you go, you need to be on [br]the orange bounding box. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now, holding shift is important depending[br]on your version that keeps it proportional 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so you aren't skewing your image and then[br]come into the image and get it aligned 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with your frame in the way that you want[br]it to be aligned. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now again, let's do this one more time. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm going to go ahead and just click off,[br]click anywhere else. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Normal, image, frame, blue,[br]blue bounding box, the moment I enter the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 content grabber right here in the middle,[br]orange bounding box, that orange bounding 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 box is how I can scale up or down, [br]I can move the image 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 let to right, excreta. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If you are attempting--now I've got things[br]real crazy here--if you are attempting 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to move them both at the same time,[br]if you just grab your actual frame, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you should be able to carry them together. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If you want to scale them together at the[br]same time--oops command-Z--shift and 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 command are what you need to do,[br]so I'm going to back myself up. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, notice I just got the blue bounding[br]box, I'm going to hold down shift and 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 command, that tells InDesign 'resize the[br]frame and resize the content', 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 shift and command, their both getting [br]smaller in the same proportion. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Okay, so that is our basics of working [br]with images. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm going to delete this, now I'm going[br]to draw a couple other frames, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 let's do something more interesting,[br]let's do a polygon. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Remember if you hold shift you're[br]going to keep things proportional. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Polygon, I know it's a frame, it has the [br]X. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Let's try the import file. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Import file, find your file, say open,[br]now its placed it in their, now again, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 its not quite right as far as the sizing [br]goes, so do I need to edit 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the size of the frame? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I can use the selection tool, [br]editing the size of the frame, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 making it fit a little bit better to my[br]content, scaling it down, now I have a 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 frame that's constraining my image[br]to this particular shape. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, if I need to edit the image itself, [br]click on the content grabber, now I see 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the orange frame and I know this is the[br]image scaling it up or down, left or right. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Okay, other ways of working. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can always draw out your design first,[br]knowing perhaps that you want a big image, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 draw it out, maybe you want one smaller [br]image, put it right here, and perhaps you 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 want some text, you could just draw some[br]text right there and maybe fill it with 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 some dummy text right here so you can[br]start to build your design. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If you want to place more than one image[br]at a time, we can do that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm going to go back here, I'm going do[br]do file, place, and let's say I absolutely 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 know I want this one and the one beneath[br]it, I'm going to hold the shift key, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I've grabbed two files and say open,[br]now look what's happened to my cursor, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it is preloaded with my two files, it has[br]an icon that says number two, if you 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 use your arrow on your keyboard you can[br]scroll through to get a preview of which 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 one you're starting with. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I want to start with this one and I'm[br]going to place it here, now its preloaded 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 my second one and I'm going to place it[br]in this frame. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now, this one of course, was not quite[br]the right size, so maybe I want to do 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 some frame fitting, I can fill the[br]frame proportionally, here it looks like 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm not quite there either with the actual[br]image size, I'm going to leave it for now 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 just to keep it simple, but that's a way[br]where you can load multiple images 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 into your cursor and then place them on [br]fly really quickly. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, practice placing your images,[br]also called importing, drawing out your 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 image frames and understanding how to[br]edit them with the content grabber 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the bounding box.
