Welcome to the football cup!
There were so many exciting matches today.
Let's take a look at some highlights
from the first match of the day,
and learn some football vocabulary
at the same time!
The match was green versus blue.
The blue team won the coin toss,
so they got to kick off to start the game.
The first goal was scored
only a few minutes into the game.
The midfielder passed the ball to the striker.
He dribbled through the defense,
and scored a beautiful goal!
The goalkeeper had no chance!
The score was one nothing for the Green team.
But, the blue team made a great play a few minutes later.
The ball went out of bounds on the end line,
so they had a corner kick.
The player tried a bicycle kick,
but the ball hit the goal post.
So close!
Just before halftime, one green player
committed a foul,
so the blue team got a free kick.
The foul was really bad,
so the referee gave the Green Team a yellow card.
They need to be more careful!
The team captain took the free kick, right behind the center line.
He passed it to the wing, who crossed it over the defenders.
Number 10 headed the ball perfectly
to score a goal.
What an amazing header!
All of the blue team's fans were cheering.
The stadium was going crazy!
The referee blew the whistle to end the first half, with the score 1-1.
In the second half, the green players made a few mistakes to start the half.
First, they had a handball.
You can't touch the ball with your arm green!
Then, number 6 slid and performed an illegal tackle.
It was a dangerous move,
so the referee gave him a red card,
and he was ejected from the game
The player from the blue team was injured,
so the coach called the substitution,
and he was taken out of the game, with a teammate taking his place.
Because the foul took place in the penalty area,
the blue team got a penalty kick.
Number 4 took the penalty and scored an easy goal.
2 to 1 for the blue team!
The regulation time finished and the game went into extra time.
Two more minutes!
With only a few seconds remaining,
the green team then got a breakaway.
The player shot the ball
but the goalkeeper saved it.
He shot it again, and the keeper saved it again!
What a play!
The referee blew the whistle
and the game was over.
It was almost a draw,
but the blue keeper saved the game.
Blue team were the winners,
beating the green team
with the final score of 2 to 1.
What a thrilling match!
