7 Ways to Chop an Onion: You Suck at Cooking (episode 9)

  • 0:06 - 0:09
Today I'm gonna show you several different ways to dice an onion.
  • 0:10 - 0:12
Cut the onion in half that way.
  • 0:12 - 0:13
    Peel it.
  • 0:14 - 0:18
Leave the nub on, then slice this way.
  • 0:19 - 0:26
Slice this way. Careful here, your knife has to be sharp or else it will slide.
  • 0:26 - 0:28
    Don't chop your fingers off.
  • 0:30 - 0:31
Congratulations, you did a great job.
  • 0:32 - 0:36
This next way was the main way people chopped things before the 40s when knives were invented.
  • 0:36 - 0:40
And what you wanna is just firmly throw it against the wall.
  • 0:41 - 0:46
And there you can just grab each other individual piece and chuck that against the wall to make it more fine.
  • 0:51 - 0:54
The next technique you will only be able to do if you have a yellow belt In taekwondo like me,
  • 0:54 - 1:00
and if you beat your cousin Chris to win first place in the St. Croix college tournament then you will be able to pull this one off.
  • 1:00 - 1:06
So want you want to do is just line up your hand and give it a good DOW!
  • 1:06 - 1:10
Look at that! That is a nice, clean hit right there.
  • 1:10 - 1:12
Alright, next technique is pretty straight forward,
  • 1:12 - 1:14
You wanna take your knife and get a Double A battery,
  • 1:14 - 1:18
and touch the positive end to the knife to get the electricity flowing,
  • 1:18 - 1:20
And just wanna come up and touch
  • 1:22 - 1:26
See, I made the classic blunder of not peeling it first,
  • 1:26 - 1:31
so now im gonna have to go through take the skin off. Don't be stupid like me!
  • 1:32 - 1:34
This next one will be easy for you if you have a break dancing background
  • 1:34 - 1:39
its definitely advanced it takes a few tries. Your just trying to get, sorta on the fore
  • 1:42 - 1:45
Trying to hit the right spot on the forearm.
  • 1:45 - 1:47
    There we go!
  • 1:47 - 1:50
This one is my favorite 'cause it relies on the power of sound,
  • 1:50 - 1:52
what you wanna do is put some headphones on the onion,
  • 1:52 - 1:56
and then you just dial a specific frequency of Nickelback and
  • 1:58 - 2:02
This next one relies on pressure, you wanna take a really small frying pan, you gotta hit it
  • 2:02 - 2:05
JUST hard enough to shatter but DO not go too hard.
  • 2:05 - 2:09
So, you wanna wind up and just give it a nice, firm, strike.
  • 2:10 - 2:12
Damn it! See i went too hard
  • 2:12 - 2:14
and i got black beans. You go even harder than that
  • 2:14 - 2:17
and you end up with corn. so, Alright, Alright.
  • 2:17 - 2:20
The last technique relies on centrifugal force, what you wanna do is wind up
  • 2:20 - 2:22
and give your onion a good spin,
  • 2:22 - 2:25
and all that happens is your gonna end up making your onion dizzy,
  • 2:25 - 2:28
and you should probably have more respect for your onion than that,
  • 2:28 - 2:29
considering what you're about to put it through
  • 2:29 - 2:31
    Okay, bye!
