A New York judge has dismissed two state terrorism charges against Luigi Mangione, who is accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson last year.
Gregory Carro ruled that prosecutors had presented “insufficient” evidence to sustain the terrorism counts (murder in the second degree as an act of terrorism, and murder in the first degree in furtherance of terrorism). A charge of second-degree murder still stands.
In his decision, Carro said there was “no indication in the statute that a murder committed for ideological reasons.”
