So Gerhard, what's going on today?
-
The London Cycling Campaign's Community Cycling Fund for London has supported this marvellous event!
-
OK, and what is the event?
-
It's in support of the charity Mind
-
And it's called Get Moving
-
...in order to get people who are normally
not particularly physically active out and about...
-
...and enjoy a bike ride, and see how easy it is to get about.
-
I noticed that there's an organisation involved here which I haven't come across
before, called Tower Hamlets Cycling Club. Do you know about them?
-
I think you mean Tower Hamlets Wheelers, don't you?
-
No :) No, there's actually a Tower Hamlets Cycling Club [as well]. Yes.
-
Abdi: It's this guy!
-
HH: OK. And you're ... from Mind aren't you?
-
I'm from Mind, yes
-
And what's your name again?
-
Abdi Rashid
-
OK, and you're involved in organising this event
-
That's right. This is the Get Moving event,
coupled with the World Mental Health Day
-
Is that today?
-
World Mental Health Day is on the 10th of October each year...
-
...but this year what we have decided to do is to collaborate with
the Get Moving event, which is happening up and down the country
-
It is a national drive to try to encourage mental
health service users to cycle and become active...
-
...and by improving their physical health, it will also help their mental health.
-
I think it would help everyone's mental health.
-
To be active? Yes!
-
Not only that. Time To Change, which is part of the Get Moving
event, is a campaign to tackle mental health stigma within our society
-
...and to end mental health discrimination.
-
As you are probably aware, one in four of us might
get a mental health condition some time in our lives
-
And this is the best way to actually campaign and get everybody involved.
-
Excellent! Well done!
-
But we're getting left behind. We'd should probably catch up! Thank you Abdi.
