Caribbean Reef Shark(s) on the Spiegel Grove wreck in Key Largo -- my favorite of the sharks -- sleek, beautiful to watch. their status is 'near threatened' due to overfishing, bycatch, and habitat loss. probably 1 in 3 of the sharks i observe carry around fish hooks and line. they are non-aggressive towards humans. they eat bony fish and cephalopods like squid and octopuses. they hang out around our florida reefs, typically 30 to 100 feet. they average six to nine feet in length. many divers i've observed miss-classify them as bull sharks, which is a very different animal...more aggressive towards humans, stockier, and quite frankly, a bit more scary when you meet one in person at depth.
