Trump's big, beautiful bill is just
-
moments away from being passed into law.
-
But what will it actually do?
-
And what could the fallout be?
-
Welcome to America Uncovered. I'm Chris Chapel
-
. Well, folks, it looks like Trump's big
-
, beautiful bill is finally happening
-
. This absolutely massive
-
budget reconciliation bill has been
-
hanging over the news cycle for months,
-
and in many ways, Trump's entire presidency depends on it
-
. Back in May, the bill was passed in the House of Representatives by a single vote,
-
215 to 214, with one Republican abstaining and
-
two more Republicans missing the vote entirely
-
. One of those missing representatives, Andrew Garbarino,
-
couldn't make it because, according to Speaker Johnson
-
, he literally fell asleep
-
. Oh, I'm sorry. Is this too boring for you?
-
I mean, we've only been
-
talking about this since freaking January.
-
I'm up all night putting together an
-
episode to explain this monumental bill
-
taking on the Hunter S. Thompson diet of
-
Dunh Hills Shivas and Taco Salad
-
and you can't even stay awake.
-
It's no wonder that when Speaker Mike Johnson heard
-
Garbarino was sleeping, he said,
-
"I'm going to just strangle him." But um and
-
then but he's my dear friend.
-
Regardless, the big beautiful bill
-
advanced to the Senate where after some changes
-
, it again passed by the slimmest possible margin
-
. This time it was Vice
-
President JD Vance who broke the tie.
-
Now it's headed back to the House for its final approval
-
. If passed, it'll go straight to the president's desk
-
where it will be signed into law.
-
So, what's in the big beautiful bill
-
and why has it been so divisive?
-
For the sake of brevity, let's focus on what Trump really wanted out of it
-
. Starting with immigration
-
. Okay, so this was the big one for Trump's base
-
. Dealing with
-
illegal immigration consistently ranks
-
among the top priorities for American voters
-
, Republicans especially.
-
According to Gallup, it even ranks above the economy
-
. And the big beautiful bill did not disappoint
-
. It dedicated over
-
$165 billion to immigration enforcement
-
over the next four years with almost 75 billion going directly towards ICE.
-
this brings its annual budget from around $8 billion per year
-
to more than 18 billion
-
. All this money will go towards
-
things like hiring thousands of newofficers
-
, expanding the border wall,
-
detention facilities, and alligators.
-
That's not a joke, by the way.
-
Yesterday, Trump visited a newly
-
constructed ice facility deep within the Florida Everglades
-
. It's been dubbed alligator Alcatraz
-
, a place with cops in the form of alligators
-
. A planet where alligators evolved from men
-
Chatter warned us about this.
-
When questioned by the media, Trump had this to say.
-
The idea that it
-
just get by an alligator or a snake.
I
-
guess that's the concept.
Brutal,
-
but I'm just going to assume he's joking.
-
I mean, there's no way he What's that, Shelly
-
? Oh, it looks like we have leaked
-
security camera footage from the detention center
-
. Let's take a look.
-
Okay, we have confirmation that
-
alligators are present in the area.
-
All right, the prisoner is making a jump for it
-
. And oh, that was close.
-
Now, let's see if he can get to the next one.
-
And oh god, the humanity.
-
I can't bear to look.
-
Another big part of the Big Beautiful bill is taxes.
-
Now, this one's a bit funny for Republicans.
-
You see, the Big Beautiful bill makes
-
the tax cuts from Trump's first term tax cuts and jobs act permanent
-
. Now, to most Republicans, that sounds pretty good
-
. If people have more money, they can buy more stuff
-
, invest in more businesses, etc., etc
-
. In the long run,
-
that could help build a larger tax base.
-
But there's a catch.
-
According to the Congressional Budget Office,
-
those tax cuts are the biggest reason why the bill
-
could add more than $3 trillion to the deficit
-
. This is why the bill has come under fire from fiscal hawks like Ran Paul
-
and Thomas Massie.
-
Now, the bill tries to offset this with cuts to programs like Medicaid
-
something to the tune of $930 billion over the next decade
-
. But still, that's not enough to
-
get the country out of its fiscal hole.
-
If you've been watching America Uncovered
-
, you may have caught our episode about Doge
-
and why it ultimately failed to reconcile America's debts
-
the truth is, most of the government's big ticket items
-
, Social Security, Medicare,
-
Medicaid, and defense spending aren't going anywhere
-
. To actually get the country out of debt
-
, the US would need explosive GDP growth
-
. I'm talking four to 5%.
-
And Trump thinks he can get there with energy
-
. Now, the Big Beautiful bill does a few things here
-
. First, it fasttracks new oil and gas leases on federal lands
-
and streamlines the permitting process
-
. It also supports nuclear power
-
, extending production and investment tax credits
-
. The idea is that by reducing energy prices
-
, the cost of doing business would go down across the board
-
. The cheaper the energy, the cheaper it is to keep factories running,
-
to deliver goods, to keep the lights on in retail stores etc
-
, . If everything comes together
-
, that would give the
-
economy enough momentum to start climbing out of the debt
-
. However,
-
there's one sector the bill doesn't smile upon.
-
Renewables.
-
The big beautiful bill reduces or flatout eliminates
-
tax credits for things like wind, solar, and electric vehicles,
-
which were established under Biden's inflation reduction act
-
. This is probably one of the causes behind the widening split between Trump
-
and Elon Musk, whose company Tesla has taken a
-
nose dive ever since Trump took office.
-
So, with Trump's bill so close to passing
-
, Musk has threatened to create a third party
-
, potentially undermining Trump's GOP
-
. In response, Trump threatened Elon's subsidies
-
and told him to go back to Africa.
-
You can't say that, man. Or at least I can't say that.
-
Are you trying to get me demonetized?
-
But in a bit of poetic irony,
-
Trump suggested sending Doge after Musk and his lucrative government contracts.
-
Doge is the monster that have that might have
-
to go back and eat Elon.
-
Wouldn't that be terrible?
-
That's it. I'm convinced.
-
We're not living in a simulation.
-
We're living in a Shakespearean tragedy.
-
Specifically, Anthony and Cleopatra.
-
What manner, oh thing, is your crocodile?
-
Trump is Caesar.
-
Elon is Mark Anthony.
-
Cleopatra, well, obviously that's Grimes.
-
You.
-
In any case, the big beautiful bill
-
marks the real beginning of Trump's second term
-
. And only time will tell
-
whether this bill fundamentally changes
-
America's course in history or if Trump becomes the next pitfall Harry
-
. So, what do you think?
