Big Beautiful Bill SUCCEEDS - What Now?

  • 0:00 - 0:03
Trump's big, beautiful bill is just
  • 0:03 - 0:06
moments away from being passed into law.
  • 0:06 - 0:08
But what will it actually do? And what
  • 0:08 - 0:11
    could the fallout be?
  • 0:11 - 0:13
Welcome to America Uncovered. I'm Chris
  • 0:13 - 0:15
Chapel. Well, folks, it looks like
  • 0:15 - 0:18
Trump's big, beautiful bill is finally
  • 0:18 - 0:20
    happening. This absolutely massive
  • 0:20 - 0:23
    budget reconciliation bill has been
  • 0:23 - 0:25
hanging over the news cycle for months,
  • 0:25 - 0:27
and in many ways, Trump's entire
  • 0:27 - 0:29
presidency depends on it. Back in May,
  • 0:29 - 0:31
the bill was passed in the House of
  • 0:31 - 0:35
Representatives by a single vote, 215 to
  • 0:35 - 0:39
214, with one Republican abstaining and
  • 0:39 - 0:41
two more Republicans missing the vote
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    entirely. One of those missing
  • 0:43 - 0:46
    representatives, Andrew Garbarino,
  • 0:46 - 0:48
couldn't make it because, according to
  • 0:48 - 0:50
    Speaker Johnson, he literally fell
  • 0:50 - 0:53
asleep. Oh, I'm sorry. Is this too
  • 0:53 - 0:55
boring for you? I mean, we've only been
  • 0:55 - 0:57
    talking about this since freaking
  • 0:57 - 0:58
    January.
  • 0:58 - 1:01
I'm up all night putting together an
  • 1:01 - 1:03
episode to explain this monumental bill
  • 1:03 - 1:06
taking on the Hunter S. Thompson diet of
  • 1:06 - 1:08
Dunh Hills Shivas and Taco Salad and you
  • 1:08 - 1:11
can't even stay awake. It's no wonder
  • 1:11 - 1:13
that when Speaker Mike Johnson heard
  • 1:13 - 1:15
    Garbarino was sleeping, he said,
    "I'm
  • 1:15 - 1:16
going to just strangle him." But um and
  • 1:16 - 1:18
then but he's my dear friend.
  • 1:18 - 1:21
    Regardless, the big beautiful bill
  • 1:21 - 1:23
advanced to the Senate where after some
  • 1:23 - 1:26
changes, it again passed by the slimmest
  • 1:26 - 1:28
possible margin. This time it was Vice
  • 1:28 - 1:30
President JD Vance who broke the tie.
  • 1:30 - 1:32
Now it's headed back to the House for
  • 1:32 - 1:35
its final approval. If passed, it'll go
  • 1:35 - 1:37
straight to the president's desk where
  • 1:37 - 1:40
it will be signed into law. So, what's
  • 1:40 - 1:42
in the big beautiful bill and why has it
  • 1:42 - 1:44
been so divisive? For the sake of
  • 1:44 - 1:46
brevity, let's focus on what Trump
  • 1:46 - 1:49
really wanted out of it. Starting with
  • 1:49 - 1:52
immigration. Okay, so this was the big
  • 1:52 - 1:55
one for Trump's base. Dealing with
  • 1:55 - 1:57
    illegal immigration consistently ranks
  • 1:57 - 1:59
among the top priorities for American
  • 1:59 - 2:01
    voters, Republicans especially.
  • 2:01 - 2:03
According to Gallup, it even ranks above
  • 2:03 - 2:06
the economy. And the big beautiful bill
  • 2:06 - 2:08
did not disappoint. It dedicated over
  • 2:08 - 2:12
    $165 billion to immigration enforcement
  • 2:12 - 2:15
over the next four years with almost 75
  • 2:15 - 2:19
billion going directly towards ICE. This
  • 2:19 - 2:21
brings its annual budget from around $8
  • 2:21 - 2:24
billion per year to more than 18
  • 2:24 - 2:26
billion. All this money will go towards
  • 2:26 - 2:28
things like hiring thousands of new
  • 2:28 - 2:30
    officers, expanding the border wall,
  • 2:30 - 2:35
    detention facilities, and alligators.
  • 2:35 - 2:37
That's not a joke, by the way.
  • 2:37 - 2:39
    Yesterday, Trump visited a newly
  • 2:39 - 2:41
constructed ice facility deep within the
  • 2:41 - 2:44
    Florida Everglades. It's been dubbed
  • 2:44 - 2:47
alligator Alcatraz, a place with cops in
  • 2:47 - 2:50
the form of alligators. A planet where
  • 2:50 - 2:54
    alligators evolved from men. Chatter
  • 2:54 - 2:57
warned us about this. When questioned by
  • 2:57 - 2:59
the media, Trump had this to say.
    The
  • 2:59 - 3:03
    idea that it
  • 3:03 - 3:05
just get by an alligator or a snake.
    I
  • 3:05 - 3:08
    guess that's the concept.
    Brutal, but
  • 3:08 - 3:10
I'm just going to assume he's joking. I
  • 3:10 - 3:12
mean, there's no way he What's that,
  • 3:12 - 3:15
Shelly? Oh, it looks like we have leaked
  • 3:15 - 3:17
    security camera footage from the
  • 3:17 - 3:19
detention center. Let's take a look.
  • 3:19 - 3:20
    Okay, we have confirmation that
  • 3:20 - 3:23
alligators are present in the area. All
  • 3:23 - 3:25
right, the prisoner is making a jump for
  • 3:25 - 3:28
it. And oh, that was close. Now, let's
  • 3:28 - 3:30
see if he can get to the next one. And
  • 3:30 - 3:33
    oh god, the humanity.
  • 3:33 - 3:36
I can't bear to look. Another big part
  • 3:36 - 3:41
of the Big Beautiful bill is taxes. Now,
  • 3:41 - 3:43
this one's a bit funny for Republicans.
  • 3:43 - 3:45
You see, the Big Beautiful bill makes
  • 3:45 - 3:47
the tax cuts from Trump's first term tax
  • 3:47 - 3:50
cuts and jobs act permanent. Now, to
  • 3:50 - 3:51
    most Republicans, that sounds pretty
  • 3:51 - 3:53
good. If people have more money, they
  • 3:53 - 3:56
can buy more stuff, invest in more
  • 3:56 - 3:59
businesses, etc., etc. In the long run,
  • 3:59 - 4:02
that could help build a larger tax base.
  • 4:02 - 4:04
But there's a catch. According to the
  • 4:04 - 4:06
    Congressional Budget Office, those tax
  • 4:06 - 4:09
cuts are the biggest reason why the bill
  • 4:09 - 4:12
could add more than $3 trillion to the
  • 4:12 - 4:14
deficit. This is why the bill has come
  • 4:14 - 4:16
under fire from fiscal hawks like Ran
  • 4:16 - 4:19
Paul and Thomas Massie. Now, the bill
  • 4:19 - 4:21
tries to offset this with cuts to
  • 4:21 - 4:23
programs like Medicaid, something to the
  • 4:23 - 4:26
tune of $930 billion over the next
  • 4:26 - 4:29
decade. But still, that's not enough to
  • 4:29 - 4:31
get the country out of its fiscal hole.
  • 4:31 - 4:32
    If you've been watching America
  • 4:32 - 4:34
Uncovered, you may have caught our
  • 4:34 - 4:36
episode about Doge and why it ultimately
  • 4:36 - 4:39
failed to reconcile America's debts. The
  • 4:39 - 4:40
truth is, most of the government's big
  • 4:40 - 4:43
    ticket items, Social Security, Medicare,
  • 4:43 - 4:46
    Medicaid, and defense spending aren't
  • 4:46 - 4:48
going anywhere. To actually get the
  • 4:48 - 4:50
country out of debt, the US would need
  • 4:50 - 4:53
explosive GDP growth. I'm talking four
  • 4:53 - 4:57
to 5%. And Trump thinks he can get there
  • 4:57 - 5:01
with energy. Now, the Big Beautiful bill
  • 5:01 - 5:03
does a few things here. First, it
  • 5:03 - 5:06
fasttracks new oil and gas leases on
  • 5:06 - 5:08
    federal lands and streamlines the
  • 5:08 - 5:10
    permitting process. It also supports
  • 5:10 - 5:13
    nuclear power, extending production and
  • 5:13 - 5:15
investment tax credits. The idea is that
  • 5:15 - 5:17
by reducing energy prices, the cost of
  • 5:17 - 5:19
doing business would go down across the
  • 5:19 - 5:21
board. The cheaper the energy, the
  • 5:21 - 5:23
cheaper it is to keep factories running,
  • 5:23 - 5:25
to deliver goods, to keep the lights on
  • 5:25 - 5:28
in retail stores, etc. If everything
  • 5:28 - 5:30
comes together, that would give the
  • 5:30 - 5:32
    economy enough momentum to start
  • 5:32 - 5:34
climbing out of the debt. However,
  • 5:34 - 5:36
there's one sector the bill doesn't
  • 5:36 - 5:39
    smile upon. Renewables. The big
  • 5:39 - 5:41
    beautiful bill reduces or flatout
  • 5:41 - 5:44
eliminates tax credits for things like
  • 5:44 - 5:46
    wind, solar, and electric vehicles,
  • 5:46 - 5:49
    which were established under Biden's
  • 5:49 - 5:51
    inflation reduction act. This is
  • 5:51 - 5:53
probably one of the causes behind the
  • 5:53 - 5:55
widening split between Trump and Elon
  • 5:55 - 5:58
Musk, whose company Tesla has taken a
  • 5:58 - 6:01
nose dive ever since Trump took office.
  • 6:01 - 6:03
So, with Trump's bill so close to
  • 6:03 - 6:05
passing, Musk has threatened to create a
  • 6:05 - 6:08
    third party, potentially undermining
  • 6:08 - 6:11
    Trump's GOP. In response, Trump
  • 6:11 - 6:13
threatened Elon's subsidies and told him
  • 6:13 - 6:16
to go back to Africa. You can't say
  • 6:16 - 6:19
that, man. Or at least I can't say that.
  • 6:19 - 6:22
Are you trying to get me demonetized?
  • 6:22 - 6:25
But in a bit of poetic irony, Trump
  • 6:25 - 6:28
suggested sending Doge after Musk and
  • 6:28 - 6:30
    his lucrative government contracts.
    Doge
  • 6:30 - 6:33
is the monster that have that might have
  • 6:33 - 6:34
to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn't that
  • 6:34 - 6:38
    be terrible?
    That's it. I'm convinced.
  • 6:38 - 6:40
    We're not living in a simulation. We're
  • 6:40 - 6:43
    living in a Shakespearean tragedy.
  • 6:43 - 6:46
    Specifically, Anthony and Cleopatra.
  • 6:46 - 6:48
What manner, oh thing, is your
  • 6:48 - 6:49
    crocodile?
  • 6:49 - 6:53
Trump is Caesar. Elon is Mark Anthony.
  • 6:53 - 6:56
    Cleopatra, well, obviously that's
  • 6:56 - 6:57
    Grimes.
  • 6:57 - 6:59
    You.
  • 6:59 - 7:01
In any case, the big beautiful bill
  • 7:01 - 7:03
marks the real beginning of Trump's
  • 7:03 - 7:05
second term. And only time will tell
  • 7:05 - 7:07
    whether this bill fundamentally changes
  • 7:07 - 7:09
America's course in history or if Trump
  • 7:09 - 7:12
becomes the next pitfall Harry. So, what

do you think? Leave your comments below.
