-
I'm going to tell you a story
of something that happened
-
to my college roommate
when I was a freshman.
-
Um, so they weren't feeling very well.
-
So, they ended up
leaving class a little bit early,
-
so they could head back
to the dorm and get some rest.
-
Um, they said they had a sore pharynx.
-
They were abnormally tired.
-
The glands in their neck
and armpits were a little bit swollen.
-
Um, they also
had a temperature of 100.6°F.
-
Um, decreased appetite
and white spots on their tonsils,
-
and then they
had muscle aches and chills.
-
Um, the next day they felt worse, so I
-
took her to the urgent care clinic.
-
When they checked, they pressed
-
on her belly, and said that
her spleen was enlarged.
-
And they had an idea
of what might be causing the symptoms.
-
But just to be sure,
they ordered a blood test
-
for Epstein-Barr virus.
-
The test came back positive,
and they determined
-
that they had
what's called "the kissing disease."
-
They ended up feeling much better,
within a few weeks.
