-
-Hello, I am Alba Erbás,
and I study the third year
-
of the Degree in Translation
and Interpreting at the UJI.
-
Last semester, I participated
in the Exchange Programme in the USA.
-
Concretely, I went to the
Southern Connecticut State University
-
in New Haven.
-
I chose it because,
as a Translation student,
-
I thought it would be a good chance
to study English there
-
and, in class, I had the opportunity
to see how lessons were developed
-
and to know the language
more deeply.
-
I also had the opportunity
to attend lessons in French
-
as I study it at the UJI as well.
-
My attention was drawn by the way
second foreign languages are taught.
-
They focuse on teaching the country
and the culture rather than grammar.
-
I think this method of learning
and giving lessons
-
is very curious, as it is focused
on projects and group activities,
-
and it also helped me to deshinibit
and deepen my language knowledge.
-
Besides, socially and culturally
rather than academically,
-
I had the chance to share my room
with people from the USA.
-
It was a very enriching thing to do,
as I learnt their way of life
-
and how they socialize.
-
Not only did I share my room,
but also the kitchen or other spaces.
-
It helped me a great deal and I knew
really friendly and kind people
-
thought, at first glance,
they do not seem so.
-
But they open themselves up.
-
I really suggest you to share a room
in a residence
-
in order to live the experience
completely.
-
Though the USA may seem really far,
as going there alone
-
and facing what I may see scared me,
it is a unique, incredible experience
-
which I recommend to anyone
willing to go.
