Hi, my name is Karina. I have been
-
a face painter for quite a while
-
and enjoy working with the human canvas
-
and today we're going to
-
create a wonderful butterfly on Madison.
-
For your basic supplies, you will need
-
small, medium, and large brushes,
-
a high-density foam makeup sponge,
-
a basin to rinse your brushes with water,
-
and a towel, and of course, an FDA-approved
-
cosmetic-grade face paint, and glitter.
-
Our first step will be to apply the
-
outline of the wings. Start at the bridge
-
of the nose and, depending on the shape of
-
the face, the shape of the, uh, upper wing
-
will be around the eye, and the lower wing
-
will be shaped around the cheekbone.
-
I'm picking colors today that match
-
her outfit, which is always nice to do.
-
And today we'll add a little bit of a
-
swallow-like tail on the wing.
-
Uh, so we have out outline,
-
our Step #2 will be to fill in the colors.
-
I'm actually going finishing taking
-
the outline and drag that color inward.
-
Uh, it's always nice to have colors that
-
contrast and compliment. There aren't
-
really any colors that don't work together
-
but not all colors blend together, so it's
-
good to let the areas dry unless you're
-
absolutely blending. So, on the bottom
-
wing, I do want to add a second color
-
which I do want to blend, so I need to do
-
that as the first application of color is
-
wet. The outline is already a little bit
-
dry, so I'll dip my brush back into the
-
water. And just keep going over and over
-
it as you pull the colors into each other.
-
Step 3 will be to add the black outline
-
to the wings, the head, the body, and
-
the antenna. Do that with a #4 brush and
-
black paint. So we've completely outlined
-
the wings and we'll move on to the head
-
which we'll put in between the wings.
-
Many different ways to do the head and
-
the body. The body that I generally like
-
to make is a bit of a diamond.
-
We can stop at this basic butterfly;
-
we have a beautiful example.
-
Uh, if you choose to do more options,
-
we will continue and do some more.
-
So we're gonna add the eyelashes
-
to the little lady
-
and then we're going to put
-
more details on the wings themselves.
-
Pull the edges inwards, we're gonna take
-
the separation that we created and
-
round off the edges.
-
So we're gonna add
-
a little bit of color. She's got a
-
little bit of green in her outfit.
-
A teardrop-shape here.
-
Its nice to apply dry glitter to wet paint
-
so that it actually stays on better.
-
A little more detail, we can add
-
some more dots.
-
With the butterfly, you can also add lips,
-
every girl likes their lips made up.
-
So we will add some lipstick. Pull down
-
the lip slightly and just do "tap tap."
-
Additional accents would be the highlights
-
with the white.
-
As you can see, it just really
-
punches it out nicely.
-
We've completed our lovely butterfly.
-
Are you ready to fly away?
-
Yes.
