0:13 - 0:15Ready?
-
0:15 - 0:16Let's begin.
-
0:20 - 0:23It starts as a whisper,
-
0:23 - 0:25a word on the air.
-
0:25 - 0:29It can't quite be heard,
but you know that it's there. -
0:30 - 0:33As gentle
as sunlight, -
0:33 - 0:34as tenacious
as hale, -
0:34 - 0:38in its route to the heart,
it could not but prevail. -
0:39 - 0:43And the people looked up
from their day-to-day tasks, -
0:43 - 0:45their day-to-day jobs
-
0:45 - 0:47and their
day-to-day masks. -
0:48 - 0:50They heard
or they felt -
0:50 - 0:52where the whisper
could lead, -
0:52 - 0:54and they looked
with eyes wide -
0:54 - 0:57at what that
might mean. -
0:57 - 1:02And once they could see it,
they hadn't a chance -
1:02 - 1:04To resist the
sweet song -
1:04 - 1:06of the deep spell
it cast. -
1:08 - 1:12But the feeling it brought
them at first glance -
1:12 - 1:13was pain,
-
1:13 - 1:17as they lifted their eyes
on the land they had claimed. -
1:17 - 1:19Since they saw
at last -
1:19 - 1:22as if raised
from a dream, -
1:23 - 1:27they were almost alone
on the land and the sea. -
1:30 - 1:32For the trees
had almost gone, -
1:32 - 1:34and the bees
had almost gone, -
1:34 - 1:37and the creatures
in their shells by the seas -
1:37 - 1:38had almost gone.
-
1:38 - 1:42And the people felt sad
as they saw their new Earth, -
1:42 - 1:44but they knew
this was it, -
1:44 - 1:47one wild chance
for rebirth. -
1:49 - 1:53Breaking new ground,
seeds rolling down, -
1:53 - 1:57smell of the earth on
your hands and your brow. -
1:57 - 2:01No time for sorrow,
we're building tomorrow. -
2:01 - 2:05The sound of things growing
now keeps us around. -
2:07 - 2:11As the wildness grows,
and the deep wood grows, -
2:11 - 2:14and the sense that the
future's come to meet you -
2:14 - 2:16grows,
-
2:16 - 2:18There's no chance
we can rest. -
2:18 - 2:21We must do
our best. -
2:21 - 2:23This moment can lead
us back home, -
2:23 - 2:25that's our test.
-
2:27 - 2:29It starts as
a whisper, -
2:30 - 2:32a word on
the air. -
2:32 - 2:36It can't quite be heard,
but you know that it's there. -
2:38 - 2:41It then spoke
like thunder. -
2:41 - 2:43Until we all moved.
-
2:43 - 2:44And we could.
-
2:44 - 2:45And we did.
-
2:45 - 2:47And it's done.
-
2:48 - 2:49She's renewed.

As millions around the world shelter at home, the smog melts away, the birds sing, and the waters run clear. What if we used this moment in our lives and in history as an opportunity to jumpstart the rebirth and rewilding of our planet when we go back to work and school? This moment can lead us to a healthier, cleaner, greener future, if only we grasp it. Tom Rivett-Carnac tells the story of what happened when we all stopped.
