The day of the competition

Yunas mom and Maos mom have a fortuitous encounter.

This is the first time they exchange hellos.

But Yuna and Mao avoid eye contact

and head toward the rink.

[Ice Palace]

The Ice Palace is where the completion will be held.

The Short Program, which lasts for 2:40, will take place today.

Athletes are warming-up their bodies.

Without the aid of other personnel,

Yuna and Mom start training.

[Practice Session]

Practice session before the competition.

Yuna and Mao share the rink.

Its been 9 months since Yuna met Mao,

but her performance seems more mature and sophisticated.

Yuna seems to have not recovered from her condition.

Her jumps are lacking confidence.

It seems she still has not resolved her back pain problem.

Outside the rink, the Japanese reporters are busy.

Including Mao, Miki, the first ISU GP event winner,

and Suguri Fumie. Nobody is an easy opponent.

Yuna also got a brief interview session with foreign reporters after the practice.

I usually had injuries before competition,

but the pain often went away right before the competition

But this timeit seems the pain is not going away easily.

But the physical therapist

accompanied me, so I should get massages

and get treatments to make the pain go away.

Yuna was the third skater in the Short Program.

The Short Program consists of spin, step, jump, and others.

A skater must go through eight elements in 2 minutes and 40 seconds.

She showed off her specialty, 3-3 combination, and 3Lz,

but her landings were shaky.

She completed the eight elements without visible errors,

but was somewhat subdued [conservative or did not spark]

compared to her usual performances.

Considering the mistakes, the scores are pretty good.

Total score of 65.06.

This is below her seasons best.

Asada Mao followed after Yuna.

Light jumps set up to Chopins Nocturne

she catches the audience's attention.

and a gorgeous choreography blended with the music,

She chose 3-3 combination which is more difficult than Yunas

and nailed it cleanly.

Mao got 3 points more in technical elements

and was ranked the 1st place with the score of 69.34

Ando Miki also chose a very difficult jump.

[3Lz-3Lo Base Value: 11.0 + 0.6 (GOE)]

Ando Mikis 3-3 combination had 0.3 ?points than Maos combination.

As Miki earned 67.52 to place herself in the 2nd,

Yuna slipped down to the 3rd place.

Considering Yuna has never yielded the 1st place in the SP,

this result is below than whats expected.

It was generally shaky. [As she points out a certain part of the protocol]

Because she didnt have confidence, she lacked speed.

Thus, her jumps werent high.

All of it, her movements seemed to have gotten smaller.

She skated rather cautiously.

Were you really?

You were worried about making mistakes

I was nervous a lot.

I tried to be steady and stay calm

So, that could have been the reasons why I was a bit slow

I cant exactly recall how I skated

Reporters questions mostly went to Mao

who became the gold medal favorite by winning the Short Program.

that I executed 3-3 combination well today.

The night before the tomorrows competition,

Yuna receives ice-pack treatment to relieve her back pain.

Ouch

The competition [the Long Program] begins tomorrow

what are you going to do? Are you all right?

I dont know either! (Bursts out a laughter)

Of course we dont know

Hows your condition now?

It would be all right only if my back doesnt feel pain

but my back hurts now

so I should get treatments to not to feel pain tomorrow

Todays Free Skate competition will determine the final results.

So, the atmosphere in the waiting room gets tense.

The first skaters performance starts.

Free Skate has twice much points than the Short Program

There are no required elements but the program has to be refined

and demonstrates superb artistry.

Asada Mao and Ando Miki look pretty confident

because of their solid performance yesterday,

while Yuna is still worried about her condition.
