    Once upon a time, high in the highest tower

    of the far away city of Glicken Glocken,
    there was a wonderful clock.

    The numbers on its face were inlaid
    with precious jewels,

    and its hands were carved of purest ivory.

    And to mark every hour,

    one silver cock crowed,

    two brass trumpeteers came out and played,

    and a little golden angel sang.

    The people of Glicken Glocken were
    very proud of their wonderful clock,

    so proud were they that no one in the city
    had a clock or watch of his own.

    Across the river from Glicken Glocken,
    stood the ugly city of Dumberg.

    Now the wicked king of Dumberg had always
    wanted to conquer Glicken Glocken
  • 1:45 - 1:47
    but he was afraid to attack.
  • 1:50 - 1:54
    Suddenly, the king cried, "I have it.
  • 1:54 - 1:56
    I'll stop they're big clock and
  • 1:56 - 1:59
    without clocks or watches of their own,
  • 1:59 - 2:01
    they won't be able to tell the time.
  • 2:01 - 2:03
    Everything will be thrown into confusion.
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    Then I will strike."
  • 2:06 - 2:10
    So the wicked king of Dumberg sent his
    boldest henchman into Glicken Glocken
  • 2:10 - 2:11
    to stop the clock.
  • 2:12 - 2:17
    Slyly the henchman crept close to the tower
    just as the clock was about to strike.
  • 2:21 - 2:27
    The hands of the wonderful clock pointed
    to three, as he tiptoed up the steps.
  • 2:31 - 2:35
    Quietly, he took a big hammer
    from under his cloak.
  • 2:35 - 2:43
    ♪ Listen all. Hear the shout
    of children running fast and free. ♪

    ♪ School is out. School is out. ♪

    ♪ The hour is three. The hour is... ♪

    [mechanical clanging sounds]

    The clock was stopped.

    Yes, the big clock was stopped.

    Its hands pointed to three, and moved no more.

    Then, just as the wicked king of Dumberg
    had planned,

    All over the city of Glicken Glocken
    there was terrible confusion.

    The wicked king brought his army to
    a high ridge, just across the river.

    And there behind the hill, they waited
    while things in Glicken Glocken

    grew more and more confused.

    ♪ Is it late or is it early? ♪
  • 3:34 - 3:35
    ♪ Goodness, what a hurly burly. ♪
  • 3:35 - 3:36
    ♪ Is it early? Is it late? ♪
  • 3:36 - 3:38
    ♪ What's the hour? What's the date? ♪
  • 3:38 - 3:39
    ♪ Maybe it is time for bed. ♪
  • 3:40 - 3:41
    ♪ Get up quick and work instead. ♪
  • 3:41 - 3:43
    ♪ What has happened to our town? ♪
  • 3:43 - 3:48
    ♪ Everything is upside-down! ♪
  • 3:48 - 3:51
    The wicked king cried, "Now is the time!
  • 3:51 - 3:57
    Over the bridge and Glicken Glocken
    will be ours!"

    Swiftly his soldiers advanced
    toward Glicken Glocken
  • 4:03 - 4:11
    and just as they reached the middle
    of the bridge, everyone stopped.

    They looked up.
  • 4:16 - 4:19
    ♪ Hear me well. All take care. ♪
  • 4:20 - 4:24
    ♪ Across the river from the ridge now ♪
  • 4:24 - 4:25
    ♪ come the foe, ♪
  • 4:26 - 4:28
    ♪ so beware, ♪
  • 4:28 - 4:33
    ♪ of Glicken Glocken to the
    bridge now. ♪
  • 4:33 - 4:35
    Our wonderful clock is magical.
  • 4:35 - 4:38
    Yes captain, and the magic
    has saved our city.
  • 4:38 - 4:41
    To the bridge, men!
  • 4:44 - 4:47
    The soldiers of Glicken Glocken
    rushed to the bridge
  • 4:47 - 4:53
    and drove the wicked king and his army
    back into Dumberg.
  • 4:53 - 4:57
    And to this day, if you visit the
    far away city of Glicken Glocken,
  • 4:57 - 5:01
    high in the highest tower, you'll see
    their wonderful clock.

    Its hands still point to three, but every
    hour by some strange magic,

    the one silver cock crows,
  • 5:12 - 5:17
    two brass trumpeteers come out,

    and the little golden angel sings.

    ♪ Seconds fly, minute flow,
    and hours into days and years swell. ♪
