Chemical reactions often involve energy changes. In exothermic processes, like combustion, energy is released to the surroundings, making them warmer. In endothermic processes, like photosynthesis, energy is absorbed, often from the sun. The law of conservation of energy states that energy is never created or destroyed—only transferred or stored in different forms.
