CompTIA Linux+ Exam Prep! [IN PROGRESS]

  • 0:00 - 0:02
hi i'm sean powers and i'm here to help
  • 0:02 - 0:04
you learn everything do what you love
  • 0:04 - 0:06
and most importantly be kind but more
  • 0:06 - 0:09
specifically we are going to start the
  • 0:09 - 0:11
linux plus series learning to get the
  • 0:11 - 0:14
comptia linux plus certification this is
  • 0:14 - 0:15
a little bit of a late start because i
  • 0:15 - 0:17
had horrible hardware problems that are
  • 0:17 - 0:19
a thing of the past that was me knocking
  • 0:19 - 0:22
on wood hopefully that holds true um but
  • 0:22 - 0:23
i want to give you a quick intro this
  • 0:23 - 0:25
video that you're watching now is the
  • 0:25 - 0:27
temporary intro this will be deleted
  • 0:27 - 0:29
once the course is done this is kind of
  • 0:29 - 0:32
like i want to get us started but i'll
  • 0:32 - 0:34
have a better intro when we're done so
  • 0:34 - 0:37
temporary intro here we go now when i'm
  • 0:37 - 0:39
demonstrating all the various things i'm
  • 0:39 - 0:41
going to try to use two systems i'm
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    using ubuntu mate
  • 0:43 - 0:46
and rocky linux 9 which is kind of like
  • 0:46 - 0:48
the new centos sun to us is no longer a
  • 0:48 - 0:50
direct bite for byte copy of red hat
  • 0:50 - 0:52
enterprise linux so that's what rocky
  • 0:52 - 0:54
linux tries to do so i'm going to use
  • 0:54 - 0:56
rocky linux for the red hat stuff ubuntu
  • 0:56 - 1:00
mate for the debian ubuntu stuff and the
  • 1:00 - 1:01
stuff that doesn't matter i'll probably
  • 1:01 - 1:03
default to ubuntu because it's just what
  • 1:03 - 1:04
i really like to use all all the time
  • 1:04 - 1:07
but anyway i am using virtualbox which
  • 1:07 - 1:11
is completely free i have also added uh
  • 1:11 - 1:14
the add-on extension package so that i
  • 1:14 - 1:15
    can use
  • 1:15 - 1:18
rd what is uh rdp to remotely watch them
  • 1:18 - 1:22
because while you can use virtualbox to
  • 1:22 - 1:24
you know control like with their little
  • 1:24 - 1:26
window like their little visual window
  • 1:26 - 1:28
    to actually use it
  • 1:28 - 1:30
it really messes with my recording so i
  • 1:30 - 1:31
like to use remote desktop and that
  • 1:31 - 1:34
requires you put the add-ons which if
  • 1:34 - 1:35
you're doing it for your own personal
  • 1:35 - 1:38
use that's perfectly fine to do so um
  • 1:38 - 1:41
using rdp allows me to set up a tabbed
  • 1:41 - 1:42
interface so i can go between them while
  • 1:42 - 1:43
    they're running it's actually really
  • 1:43 - 1:46
super cool i will show you that actually
  • 1:46 - 1:48
i'll show you that now and this is a
  • 1:48 - 1:49
little bit hard to see because you know
  • 1:49 - 1:51
i try to make it as tiny as possible up
  • 1:51 - 1:53
on the top of the screen so that it
  • 1:53 - 1:55
doesn't take up the space but this is a
  • 1:55 - 1:57
little tabbed interface up here if you
  • 1:57 - 1:59
see at the upper left i'm switching
  • 1:59 - 2:01
between and this is just a program it's
  • 2:01 - 2:02
a free program i think it's even open
  • 2:02 - 2:04
source it's called like what is it
  • 2:04 - 2:06
called rd tabs i'll put a link in the
  • 2:06 - 2:08
description of the video below if you
  • 2:08 - 2:10
want to try it but it's just a really
  • 2:10 - 2:12
great way to get a tabbed interface to
  • 2:12 - 2:13
remote desktop stuff and then i'm just
  • 2:13 - 2:17
connecting to my virtual box uh right
  • 2:17 - 2:19
here on my own personal computer alright
  • 2:19 - 2:21
so it's something you can replicate and
  • 2:21 - 2:22
install on your own and follow along
  • 2:22 - 2:24
just so you know what i'm using and
  • 2:24 - 2:25
you'll be able to use the same thing i
  • 2:25 - 2:28
also recommend that while you do stuff
  • 2:28 - 2:30
before you make any major changes i
  • 2:30 - 2:31
    recommend taking a snapshot in
  • 2:31 - 2:33
virtualbox that's just so you can roll
  • 2:33 - 2:35
back if you mess something up i do that
  • 2:35 - 2:37
because i mess stuff up i don't always
  • 2:37 - 2:38
leave the mess-ups in video but
  • 2:38 - 2:40
sometimes i do anyway snapshots are a
  • 2:40 - 2:42
great way to give you a spot you can
  • 2:42 - 2:43
roll back in time because it's just that
  • 2:43 - 2:46
it's a snapshot of the system so any
  • 2:46 - 2:47
changes you make get reverted to the
  • 2:47 - 2:49
snapshot when you go back now when it
  • 2:49 - 2:52
comes to the actual material the actual
  • 2:52 - 2:54
    objectives i'm getting straight from
  • 2:54 - 2:56
comptia the new revision that came out
  • 2:56 - 3:00
july 12 2022 and it looks like this this
  • 3:00 - 3:01
    is just a
  • 3:01 - 3:04
snapshot of the pdf file that includes
  • 3:04 - 3:06
the the various objectives and it's
  • 3:06 - 3:08
broken up into sections like section 1.0
  • 3:08 - 3:11
    is system management section
  • 3:11 - 3:14
1.1 here is summarize linux fundamentals
  • 3:14 - 3:17
now also i do have a course linux
  • 3:17 - 3:19
essentials that will give you all this
  • 3:19 - 3:21
stuff and even more so if you're not
  • 3:21 - 3:23
comfortable with linux at all i
  • 3:23 - 3:24
recommend you look at that course i'll
  • 3:24 - 3:26
put it like up in the corner i'll put a
  • 3:26 - 3:28
link to my linux essentials course which
  • 3:28 - 3:30
is actually a certification you could
  • 3:30 - 3:32
get but even if you just want to get
  • 3:32 - 3:33
more familiar with linux before diving
  • 3:33 - 3:36
into linux plus that will help you out
  • 3:36 - 3:37
but what i wanted to show you here yes
  • 3:37 - 3:39
this is the objectives i'll put a link
  • 3:39 - 3:40
to the objectives in the video
  • 3:40 - 3:42
description here as well but it's just
  • 3:42 - 3:44
broken up into these big chunks like
  • 3:44 - 3:46
section 1.1 but this is going to be a
  • 3:46 - 3:48
lot of video and sometimes it gets
  • 3:48 - 3:50
monotonous if there's super long videos
  • 3:50 - 3:52
and a long time between videos if i have
  • 3:52 - 3:54
to make like a you know an hour and a
  • 3:54 - 3:56
half long video so i plan on breaking
  • 3:56 - 3:59
them up into chunks like the section 1.1
  • 3:59 - 4:05
    will probably become 1.1.1 1.1.2 0.3.4.5
  • 4:05 - 4:08
    and they're going to loosely
  • 4:08 - 4:11
follow the chunks right the the little
  • 4:11 - 4:13
bold bullet points there i'm just going
  • 4:13 - 4:14
to break it up into sections i mean this
  • 4:14 - 4:16
isn't rocket science here it's just so
  • 4:16 - 4:18
if you see like 1.1.3 and you're like
  • 4:18 - 4:20
that is not in the objective list at all
  • 4:20 - 4:22
it's just 1.1 that i've broken up into
  • 4:22 - 4:24
multiple pieces i just wanted to make
  • 4:24 - 4:26
that clear before i start that's what
  • 4:26 - 4:28
we're doing so when you follow along in
  • 4:28 - 4:29
your objective list again that's in the
  • 4:29 - 4:31
description so you can download it uh
  • 4:31 - 4:33
you'll know where i am and why i named
  • 4:33 - 4:35
it the way i named it now if i make any
  • 4:35 - 4:37
    changes to the standard virtualbox
  • 4:37 - 4:40
networking like isolated network to set
  • 4:40 - 4:42
up dhcp i don't really remember all the
  • 4:42 - 4:43
things that we're going to cover in this
  • 4:43 - 4:45
linux plus course but if i make network
  • 4:45 - 4:47
changes i'll point them out virtualbox
  • 4:47 - 4:49
allows you to do some things but i'll
  • 4:49 - 4:50
make sure that i point out that i've
  • 4:50 - 4:52
done something behind the scenes that
  • 4:52 - 4:54
make my setup work differently than the
  • 4:54 - 4:55
setup that you can install and follow
  • 4:55 - 4:57
along with yourself now another a couple
  • 4:57 - 4:59
other housekeeping things i plan i was
  • 4:59 - 5:01
thinking about doing a live stream every
  • 5:01 - 5:03
so often do you think that would be
  • 5:03 - 5:05
beneficial like during the creation of
  • 5:05 - 5:07
the course and maybe even after it's
  • 5:07 - 5:09
done every so often have a live stream
  • 5:09 - 5:11
where people could ask questions i could
  • 5:11 - 5:14
respond we could just you know
  • 5:14 - 5:15
shoot the breeze whatever it might take
  • 5:15 - 5:17
if that sounds like it might be
  • 5:17 - 5:19
interesting to you how often do you
  • 5:19 - 5:22
think that should happen uh what what
  • 5:22 - 5:24
sounds like a reasonable amount of time
  • 5:24 - 5:28
for questions or interests or uh
  • 5:28 - 5:30
or how long before people forget how
  • 5:30 - 5:31
horrible the last one was so they might
  • 5:31 - 5:33
come to the next one let me know what
  • 5:33 - 5:35
you think might be an appropriate time
  • 5:35 - 5:37
frame if it even seems like a good idea
  • 5:37 - 5:38
to do a live stream at all and if you
  • 5:38 - 5:40
want to help along the way
  • 5:40 - 5:42
please subscribe to my channel hit that
  • 5:42 - 5:44
    notification
  • 5:44 - 5:45
thing wherever it is it's like a bell
  • 5:45 - 5:47
that way you'll get notified when the
  • 5:47 - 5:49
videos come out and even more
  • 5:49 - 5:51
importantly if you know anybody who
  • 5:51 - 5:54
    might benefit from free complete
  • 5:54 - 5:57
no no nothing hidden i mean i'm giving
  • 5:57 - 5:59
this all away for free uh linux plus
  • 5:59 - 6:03
course please send them to my channel so
  • 6:03 - 6:05
that they can follow along too uh the
  • 6:05 - 6:06
    youtube algorithm is great for
  • 6:06 - 6:08
connecting people to the stuff they want
  • 6:08 - 6:10
but nothing beats uh actual first-hand
  • 6:10 - 6:12
recommendations so if you want to help
  • 6:12 - 6:13
    me
  • 6:13 - 6:15
be able to create for more people i
  • 6:15 - 6:17
would appreciate it and that's something
  • 6:17 - 6:18
you can do so i'm gonna stop this video
  • 6:18 - 6:21
and hopefully before today is out the
  • 6:21 - 6:23
first actual video of the course will
  • 6:23 - 6:25
drop and remember this video is going
  • 6:25 - 6:27
away once the course is complete so if
  • 6:27 - 6:29
you're watching this you're part of the
  • 6:29 - 6:32
elite few they get to watch this video
  • 6:32 - 6:34
which will only be here until the course
  • 6:34 - 6:35
is done it's a really weird elite status
  • 6:35 - 6:37
to have but you have it i'll see in the
  • 6:37 - 6:41
    next video bye
