-
1:49 - 1:57(Music)
-
2:09 - 2:19(Applause)
-
2:19 - 2:21Robbie Mizzone: Thank you.
-
2:21 - 2:22Tommy Mizzone: Thank you very much.
-
2:22 - 2:24We're so excited to be here. It's such an honor for us.
-
2:24 - 2:27Like he said, we're three brothers from New Jersey --
-
2:27 - 2:31you know, the bluegrass capital of the world.
-
2:31 - 2:33(Laughter)
-
2:33 - 2:35We discovered bluegrass a few years ago,
-
2:35 - 2:38and we fell in love with it. We hope you guys will too.
-
2:38 - 2:42This next song is an original we wrote called "Timelapse,"
-
2:42 - 2:45and it will probably live up to its name.
-
2:45 - 2:53(Tuning)
-
2:53 - 3:01(Music)
-
4:37 - 4:49(Applause)
-
4:49 - 4:52TM: Thank you very much.
-
4:52 - 4:54RM: I'm just going to take a second to introduce the band.
-
4:54 - 4:57On guitar is my 15-year-old brother Tommy.
-
4:57 - 5:02(Applause)
-
5:02 - 5:05On banjo is 10-year-old Jonny.
-
5:05 - 5:11(Applause) He's also our brother.
-
5:11 - 5:14And I'm Robbie, and I'm 14, and I play the fiddle.
-
5:14 - 5:18(Applause)
-
5:18 - 5:21As you can see, we decided to make it hard on ourselves,
-
5:21 - 5:22and we chose to play three songs
-
5:22 - 5:27in three different keys.
-
5:27 - 5:29Yeah. I'm also going to explain, a lot of people want to know
-
5:29 - 5:32where we got the name Sleepy Man Banjo Boys from.
-
5:32 - 5:35So it started when Jonny was little,
-
5:35 - 5:38and he first started the banjo, he would play on his back
-
5:38 - 5:39with his eyes closed,
-
5:39 - 5:41and we'd say it looked like he was sleeping.
-
5:41 - 5:43So you can probably piece the rest together.
-
5:43 - 5:45TM: We can't really figure out the reason for this.
-
5:45 - 5:50It might have been that it weighs about a million pounds.
-
5:50 - 5:59(Music)
-
7:27 - 7:31(Applause)
-
7:31 - 7:37(Music)
-
8:13 - 8:18(Applause)
-
8:18 - 8:20TM: Thank you very much.
-
8:20 - 8:25RM: Thank you.
- Title:
- Bluegrass virtuosity from ... New Jersey?
- Speaker:
- Sleepy Man Banjo Boys
- Description:
-
All under the age of 16, brothers Jonny, Robbie and Tommy Mizzone are from New Jersey, a US state that's better known for the rock of Bruce Springsteen than the bluegrass of Earl Scruggs. Nonetheless, the siblings began performing bluegrass covers, as well as their own compositions, at a young age. Here, they play three dazzling songs in three different keys, passing the lead back and forth from fiddle to banjo to guitar.
