Hoy hablaré sobre Effexor, mejor conocido
por su nombre genérico: Venlafaxina.

Effexor es un antidepresivo SRNI, que se
utiliza para tratar múltiples afecciones

En su mayoría como: trastorno depresivo,
trastorno de ansiedad generalizada,

trastorno de pánico, trastorno de
ansiedad social, dolor crónico y sofocos

En 2020 fue el 43.° medicamento más
recetado en los Estados Unidos

con 15 millones de recetas.

Este es un medicamento empleado
con mucha frecuencia

Hablemos un poco sobre la historia
de Effexor.

Se aprobó el uso de Effexor en
los Estados Unidos en 1993.

Así que ha estado aquí durante 30 años.

¿Cómo funciona Effexor?

Effexor o Venlafaxina, es un inhibidor de
recaptación de serotonina y norepinefrina.

Inhibe selectivamente la recaptación,

tanto de norepinefrina como de serotonina.

Esto aumenta los niveles de
los neurotransmisores en

la hendidura sináptica.

Los niveles más altos de
neurotransmisores, están relacionados

a mejorar el estado de ánimo
y la depresión.

¿Qué tipo de efectos secundarios hay
al tomar Effexor?

Los efectos secundarios pueden incluir,
(pero no se limitan a esta lista)

como: astenia, dolor de cabeza,
somnolencia, mareos, nerviosismo,

insomnio, ansiedad, temblores,
sueños anormales, parestesia, agitación,

debilidad, síncope, alteración del gusto,
apatía, confusión, hipertensión,

hipotensión, taquicardia...

Bueno, existen muchos chicos.
Hay muchos efectos secundarios

de este medicamento.

Ahora, muchos de estos, solo
se experimentan en dosis realmente altas.

Muchos de estos pueden aparecer al inicio
y luego desaparecerán.

Sin duda, hay muchos efectos secundarios.
Es como uno de esos medicamentos

donde solo se habla sin parar sobre
los efectos secundarios por cinco minutos.

Las probabilidades de que tengas
la mayoría de estos efectos son muy bajas.

Quizá habrá alguno que puedas tener;
tal vez te sientas mareado, con cansancio.

Definitivamente, con todos estos tipos
de medicamentos: ISRS, IRSN;

puede que presentes dificultades
con tu libido;

quizás tengas dificultades para llegar
al orgasmo,

ese tipo de cosas.

of developing serotonin syndrome,
this occurs where there's

too much serotonin,
and the symptoms include:

a high heart rate, sweating, headache,
agitation, restlessness, anxiety,

goosebumps and rigid muscles.
There are some severe symptoms

if this gets
really bad too

which includes: a high fever,
seizures, irregular heart rhythm,

and loss of consciousness.
If you suspect

that you're having serotonin syndrome,
you should go to the hospital,

or be checked out by your provider.

Again, you should especially
be careful of

serotonin syndrome if you're on
multiple medications

that increase levels of
serotonin like other SSRI, SNRI

medications, buspirone, hydroxyzine,
other antidrepressants,

antipsychotics, there's quite
a few, be careful.

But again, this is an effective
medication and

It's been used for a long time
to treat anxiety,

to treat depression,
to treat those conditions

I mentioned before. Don't
be dissuased by the possible

side effects, these are
possible not guaranteed

Also with Effexor, there's also a bit
of a withdrawal syndrome

antidrepressant medications like
venlafaxine, need to be

tapered off in order to
avoid or mitigate withdrawal

symptoms of withdrawal include:
dizziness, aches, chills

and headaches, you need to come off
of this slowly if you're

coming off of it, especially if
you've been here for a while

and especially if you're
at a high dose.

What are some positivies of venlafaxine?

you've heard some negativies,
some side effects,

again, if your doctor and
you patient it may be

way worth it, to put up with
some of this side effects

which likely you won't
experience many

you'll experience maybe a few, and a lot
of them will obey over time

Is a very effective medication

for anxiety and depression.
And it's been around for several decades

It's very well
researched, and can be

used to great effects.

What are some negatives or
cons of Venlafaxine?

Like other antidepressants it can
cause sexual dysfunction.

It can also make suicidal ideation
or depression worse

and this is more likely in young
adults and children.

Overall, What´s our take on
Venlafaxine use?

venlafaxine is a well established
treatment for anxiety

and depression as well as
several other conditions

and it is considered a second-line
treatment. Usually you

go to the SSRIs first and then
you go to SNRIs. Effexor,

Prestique, Cymbalta, there's a.
