Hoy hablaremos de Effexor,

también conocido por
el nombre genérico de Venlafaxina.

Effexor es un antidepresivo
de clase SNRI.
-
Es utilizado para tratar condiciones como
-
trastorno depresivo mayor,
trastorno de ansiedad generalizada,
-
trastorno de pánico,
trastorno de ansiedad social,
-
dolor crónico y bochornos.
-
En 2020,
-
fue el 43° medicamento
más recetado;
-
en EU, con 15 millones de recetas.
-
Por lo tanto, es muy utilizado.
-
Hablemos un poco sobre su historia.
-
Fue aprobado para su uso
en EU en en 1993,
-
Así que, se ha utilizado
por unos 30 años.
-
¿Cómo funciona Effexor?
-
Effexor, o Venlafaxina, es un inhibidor
de la recaptación de
-
serotonina y norepinefrina.
-
Inhibe selectivamente la recaptación
de norepinefrina y serotonina
-
Lo que aumenta los niveles de
estos neurotransmisores
-
en la hendidura sináptica.
-
Los altos niveles de estos
neurotransmisores están relacionados
-
con un mejor estado de ánimo
y menos depresión.
-
¿Qué tipo de efectos secundarios tiene?
-
Los efectos secundarios pueden incluir,
pero no se limitan a:
-
astenia, dolor de cabeza, somnolencia,
mareo, nerviosismo, insomnio,
-
ansiedad, estremecimientos,
sueños anormales, parestesia, agitación,
-
debilidad, síncope, alteración del gusto,
apatía, confusión,
-
hipertensión, hipotensión, taquicardia,
-
vasod… Oigan, hay muchos.
-
Hay muchos efectos secundarios
con este medicamento.
-
Muchos de ellos solo se pueden
experimentar en dosis realmente altas.
-
Muchos de estos se pueden obtener
al principio y luego desaparecer.
-
Así que realmente, hay muchos
efectos secundarios.
-
Es como esos medicamentos de los que
se dicen tonterías y solo tienen
-
como 5 minutos de efectos secundarios.
-
Las posibilidades de obtener la mayoría,
son muy escasas.
-
Pero, hay algunos que tal vez obtendrás.
-
Tal vez te marees un poco o te canses.
-
Definitivamente con todos los
medicamentos SSRI o SNRI,

you are having serotonin syndrome,

you should go to the hospital,
or be checked out by your provider.

Should especially be careful with
serotonin syndrome
-
if you are on multiple medications
that increase levels of Serotonin
-
like other SSRI, SNRI medications,
Buspirone, Hydroxyzine,
-
other antidepressants,
antipsychotics.
-
There is quite a few,
so be careful.
-
But again, this is an effective medication
and it is been used for a long time
-
to treat anxiety, depression
and those conditions I mentioned before.
-
Do not be dissuaded
by the possible side effects.
-
These are possible, not guaranteed.
-
With Effexor there is also a bit
of a withdrawal syndrome.
-
Antidepressant medications
like Venlafaxine
-
need to be tapered off in order
to avoid or mitigate withdrawal.
-
Symptoms of withdrawal include
-
dizziness, aches, chills and headaches.
-
You need to come off of this slowly
if you are coming off of it,
-
especially if you have been on it
for a while and if you are at a high dose.
-
What are some
positives of Venlafaxine?
-
You have heard, some negatives
of the side effects.
-
Again, if your doctor and your medication
it may be way worth it to put up
-
with some of these side effects,
which likely you will not experience many,
-
you will experience maybe a few
and a lot of them will obey over time.
-
Positives or pros of venlafaxine.
-
Is a very effective medication for
anxiety and depression
-
and it is been around for several decades.
-
It is very well researched
and can be used to great effect.
-
What are some
negative or cons of Venlafaxine?
-
Like other antidepressants,
can cause sexual dysfunction.
-
It can also make suicidal ideation
or depression worse
-
and this more likely in young adults
and children.
-
What is our in-venlafaxine use?
-
Venlafaxine is a well- treatment
for anxiety and depression
-
as well as several other conditions,
-
and it is considered
a second line treatment.
-
Usually, you go to the SSRIS first,
and then you go to SNRIS:
-
Effexor, Pristiq, Cymbalta.
-
There are a couple others out there,
depending on what country you live in.

Good medication.
