China Beats Trump AGAIN

  • 0:00 - 0:04
    Donald Trump has a serious
    phone call with Xi Jinping.
  • 0:04 - 0:08
America has caught even more alleged CCP spies.
  • 0:08 - 0:12
    And is Beijing trying to
    poison American agriculture?
  • 0:12 - 0:17
That and more on this week’s China news headlines!
  • 0:17 - 0:19
    Welcome to China Uncensored.
  • 0:19 - 0:21
I’m Matt Gnaizda, filling in for Chris Chappell,
  • 0:21 - 0:25
who’s lost in the Matrix again,
because he got his system hacked.
  • 0:25 - 0:27
Too bad he wasn’t using Surfshark.
  • 0:27 - 0:33
Whenever I go online, I use Surfshark VPN
to cover my tracks and protect my identity.
  • 0:33 - 0:34
    I also use it to...
  • 0:34 - 0:36
    What’s that, Shelley?
  • 0:36 - 0:42
Ok, I’m not legally allowed to say it
helps me grow this luxurious mustache.
  • 0:42 - 0:44
    So I won’t say that.
  • 0:44 - 0:46
    Let’s move on.
  • 0:46 - 0:48
According to the Department of Justice,
  • 0:48 - 0:51
    two Chinese nationals have
    been charged with smuggling
  • 0:51 - 0:56
a “potential agroterrorism” fungus into the US.
  • 0:56 - 0:58
    A dangerous fungus?
  • 0:58 - 0:59
Did China watch The Last of Us
  • 0:59 - 1:01
and take it as an instruction manual?
  • 1:01 - 1:07
    The Chinese nationals, 33-year-old
Yunqing Jian and 34-year-old Zunyong Liu,
  • 1:07 - 1:11
    have been hit with several
    serious charges, including…
  • 1:11 - 1:14
“conspiracy, smuggling goods into the United
    States,
  • 1:14 - 1:17
    false statements, and visa fraud.”
  • 1:17 - 1:19
Jian, a researcher at the University of Michigan,
  • 1:19 - 1:24
and her boyfriend, Liu, a researcher
    at Zhejiang University in China,
  • 1:24 - 1:28
both study the same fungus, Fusarium Graminearum,
  • 1:28 - 1:31
which is exactly what was smuggled into the U.S.
  • 1:31 - 1:36
The fungus causes a crop disease called “head
blight” that damages crops, including wheat,
  • 1:36 - 1:39
and releases a mycotoxin that can cause vomiting,
  • 1:39 - 1:42
    diarrhea, liver damage, reproductive issues,
  • 1:42 - 1:46
and other harm to people and
animals that eat too much of it.
  • 1:46 - 1:48
Fingers crossed “other harm” doesn’t include
  • 1:48 - 1:50
    turning into a mushroom zombie.
  • 1:50 - 1:53
The fungus is common in the U.S. already,
  • 1:53 - 1:56
which is why the FDA monitors for
    it and most wheat distributors
  • 1:56 - 2:01
test for levels of the toxin before allowing
their product to get onto store shelves.
  • 2:01 - 2:05
The whole situation started when Liu
was stopped by Customs and Border Patrol
  • 2:05 - 2:09
at the airport while on his way to visit
his girlfriend under a tourist visa,
  • 2:09 - 2:12
which doesn’t allow him to work in the U.S.
  • 2:12 - 2:17
Officials found a wad of tissues in his
bag hiding a circular piece of filter paper
  • 2:17 - 2:20
and a number of tiny baggies
    containing plant matter.
  • 2:20 - 2:23
Yes, the old “Wad of tissues” technique,
  • 2:23 - 2:26
    where the
perpetrator assumes customs officers will think,
  • 2:26 - 2:29
“Ew gross” and just not want to touch it.
  • 2:29 - 2:31
    According to the DOJ,
  • 2:31 - 2:34
Liu said the goal was to continue
his research on the fungus at
  • 2:34 - 2:38
the University of Michigan lab Jian
worked at, with her letting him in.
  • 2:38 - 2:41
Further questioning also revealed that he knew
  • 2:41 - 2:44
other people who worked at the
    lab from prior research together.
  • 2:44 - 2:48
While Jian was arrested and is scheduled
to appear in a Detroit-based federal court,
  • 2:48 - 2:52
Liu is believed to have returned to China.
  • 2:52 - 2:56
So was this a dastardly plot by the Chinese
Communist Party to destroy American crops
  • 2:56 - 3:00
    and sicken Americans and create
    a morally grey apocalypse?
  • 3:00 - 3:01
    Probably not.
  • 3:01 - 3:05
According to the DOJ, an investigation
    of Jian’s electronics
  • 3:05 - 3:11
showed information describing her membership in
and loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party.
  • 3:11 - 3:15
But a lot of Chinese researchers
are loyal members of the CCP.
  • 3:15 - 3:20
All in all, this seems more like stupidity
    run rampant than anything nefarious.
  • 3:20 - 3:22
    It’s the classic Hanlon’s Razor:
  • 3:22 - 3:26
“Never attribute to malice that which
    is adequately explained by stupidity.”
  • 3:26 - 3:28
And when it comes to CCP members,
  • 3:28 - 3:31
    there’s a lot of stupidity.
  • 3:31 - 3:35
But, of course, the US media is
having their way with the story,
  • 3:35 - 3:39
With the New York Times wrongly
    calling the researchers “students”...
  • 3:39 - 3:44
And implying that this is part of Trump’s
    targeting of Chinese international students,
  • 3:44 - 3:47
While the New York Post cites
    Republican Senator Joni Ernst
  • 3:47 - 3:51
    saying the Trump administration saved
all of us from a potential bioweapon.
  • 3:51 - 3:53
Because when it comes to the American
    media,
  • 3:53 - 3:56
there’s also a lot of stupidity.
  • 3:56 - 4:01
An alleged Chinese spy allegedly plotted to make
    a Xi Jinping critic ”
  • 4:01 - 4:03
    go “bang bang and gone!
  • 4:03 - 4:06
    Couldn’t they have settled for
    making bang bang shrimp instead?
  • 4:06 - 4:09
    It’s tasty and less murderous.
  • 4:09 - 4:12
Except to the shrimp, I guess.
  • 4:12 - 4:14
The quote unquote “spy” in question is…
  • 4:14 - 4:18
    John Miller, who, along with
    a man named Cui Guanghai,
  • 4:18 - 4:22
    was arrested in April in
Serbia on the orders of the FBI
  • 4:22 - 4:25
    after he allegedly attempted
    to hire two undercover agents
  • 4:25 - 4:29
to threaten and intimidate a Xi Jinping critic.
  • 4:29 - 4:34
That critic is an LA-based artist who
displayed statues of Xi and his wife
  • 4:34 - 4:37
shirtless and tied up on a Times Square billboard.
  • 4:37 - 4:40
    Yes, this is China Uncensored.
  • 4:40 - 4:42
    It’s ok, because it’s art.
  • 4:42 - 4:46
Miller allegedly discussed in phone calls
whether or not to have the target kidnapped,
  • 4:46 - 4:48
beaten with a baseball bat, shot,
  • 4:48 - 4:51
or just kneecapped with an ice pick,
  • 4:51 - 4:53
saying in one recorded phone call,
  • 4:53 - 4:54
“They want it bang bang and gone
  • 4:54 - 4:59
    . No talking
to, no nothing to, like a mugging or something.”
  • 4:59 - 5:00
I only saw the written transcript.
  • 5:00 - 5:03
I assume that’s how he said it.
  • 5:03 - 5:05
But now the only thing going “bang bang”
  • 5:05 - 5:08
will be the sound of the cell doors slamming shut.
  • 5:08 - 5:12
Miller is a permanent US resident
but a citizen of the UK, and,
  • 5:12 - 5:13
    according to investigators,
  • 5:13 - 5:19
he and Cui both were accused of spying for
the CCP and stalking Chinese dissidents.
  • 5:19 - 5:21
    But Miller appears to have
had even more up his sleeve
  • 5:21 - 5:25
than a plot that sounds like a Shane Black movie.
  • 5:25 - 5:28
    It’s also alleged that he
    tried to smuggle sensitive
  • 5:28 - 5:31
American military equipment to China, including…
  • 5:31 - 5:32
    Drones,
  • 5:32 - 5:33
    Air defense radar,
  • 5:33 - 5:34
    and missiles.
  • 5:34 - 5:36
Because why stop at beating up a single dissident,
  • 5:36 - 5:41
when you can help the CCP beat
up a whole island of dissidents?
  • 5:41 - 5:43
    Speaking of Chinese spies:
  • 5:43 - 5:45
    The Dutch Defense Minister says
  • 5:45 - 5:48
    that Chinese
spying on Dutch industries is intensifying.
  • 5:48 - 5:54
In April last year, the Dutch military
intelligence agency said in its annual report
  • 5:54 - 5:58
that the CCP’s spies are targeting
    Amsterdam’s semiconductor, aerospace,
  • 5:58 - 6:03
and maritime industries to try to
    strengthen China's armed forces.
  • 6:03 - 6:04
    During the Biden Administration,
  • 6:04 - 6:06
the US, Japan and the Netherlands
  • 6:06 - 6:10
    all worked together to restrict
    semiconductor exports to China.
  • 6:10 - 6:13
That’s something the White House is continuing.
  • 6:13 - 6:17
But Chinese spying is continuing along with it!
  • 6:17 - 6:21
Especially since the Netherlands is a
    global leader in chip manufacturing.
  • 6:21 - 6:25
And the CCP is more interested in stealing
ideas than coming up with their own.
  • 6:25 - 6:29
And after the break, Trump is struggling to reach
    a trade deal with China.
  • 6:29 - 6:32
    Who would’ve thought?
  • 6:32 - 6:34
    Welcome back.
  • 6:34 - 6:38
President Donald Trump and Chinese leader
Xi Jinping had a phone call yesterday,
  • 6:38 - 6:40
    according to Chinese state-run media.
  • 6:40 - 6:43
Surely something great will happen now!
  • 6:43 - 6:46
The trade talks that started less
than a month ago are falling apart,
  • 6:46 - 6:51
because, as we predicted, the CCP is
already violating its end of the deal.
  • 6:51 - 6:54
The Chinese Communist Party didn’t really ease
  • 6:54 - 6:57
    restrictions on those rare
    earth exports they promised.
  • 6:57 - 7:01
And, for its part, China has slammed
US efforts to limit Chinese access
  • 7:01 - 7:04
    to advanced technology—and
    President Trump’s proposed
  • 7:04 - 7:08
visa ban on Chinese students with CCP ties.
  • 7:08 - 7:10
Meanwhile, Trump wrote in a Truth Social post,
  • 7:10 - 7:14
“I like President Xi of China, always have,
  • 7:14 - 7:16
and always will, but he is VERY TOUGH,
    !!”
  • 7:16 - 7:20
AND EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE A DEAL WITH!
  • 7:20 - 7:23
Which made headlines. Because of course it did.
  • 7:23 - 7:27
Someone ought to count all the times the
news media landscape had nothing better to do
  • 7:27 - 7:29
than report something Trump said on social media.
  • 7:29 - 7:34
Or all the times show hosts
    do bad Trump impressions.
  • 7:34 - 7:36
    So it turns out that
  • 7:36 - 7:38
    dozens of American universities maintain
  • 7:38 - 7:42
    partnerships with Chinese
    military-linked entities.
  • 7:42 - 7:45
    Considering the story about the
    toxic fungus I mentioned earlier,
  • 7:45 - 7:47
this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
  • 7:47 - 7:52
I’m gonna use the power of my
mustache to go full Dad mode and say,
  • 7:52 - 7:56
    “I’m not mad… just disappointed.”
  • 7:56 - 8:00
    These institutions range from
community colleges to the Ivy Leagues,
  • 8:00 - 8:05
which President Trump is targeting in
part because of these ties to the CCP.
  • 8:05 - 8:09
    In particular, these American universities
    are linked to China’s so-called
  • 8:09 - 8:11
    Seven Sons of National Defense,
  • 8:11 - 8:13
    a cohort of Chinese universities
  • 8:13 - 8:18
    that have
very deep ties to the People’s Liberation Army.
  • 8:18 - 8:23
Some observers have even linked the Seven
Sons of National Defense to technology theft!
  • 8:23 - 8:25
    This is my shocked face.
  • 8:26 - 8:31
I did an entire in-depth episode on
    this, specifically looking at Harvard,
  • 8:31 - 8:33
and all the very disappointing ways Harvard
  • 8:33 - 8:37
actively supports the CCP and its military.
  • 8:37 - 8:39
I couldn’t put that on YouTube.
  • 8:39 - 8:44
But you can watch it when you sign up to our
    Premium website over at ChinaUncensored.tv
  • 8:44 - 8:45
It’s not just Harvard, of course.
  • 8:45 - 8:48
    Any scientific partnership
    between American universities
  • 8:48 - 8:52
and the PLA is bad news for our national security.
  • 8:52 - 8:54
    And anyone who thinks otherwise
  • 8:54 - 8:56
might just have some dangerous fungi on the brain.
  • 8:56 - 8:59
And did you know that every time you go online,
  • 8:59 - 9:01
everything you do could be compromised?
  • 9:01 - 9:06
That’s why I use Surfshark on my
laptop and my phone, all the time.
  • 9:06 - 9:07
    I never use public wi-fi
  • 9:07 - 9:10
--at a cafe, hotel, airport, anywhere—-
  • 9:10 - 9:13
without first turning on my Surfshark VPN.
  • 9:13 - 9:16
    It’s especially important if I’m
    logging into my bank account.
  • 9:16 - 9:18
But even if I’m just checking email,
  • 9:18 - 9:21
    without Surfshark, hackers could
    see everything I’m downloading.
  • 9:21 - 9:24
    Another reason I love Surfshark
is that I travel a lot.
  • 9:24 - 9:28
And sometimes I need to use a VPN
to make it look like I’m in the US,
  • 9:28 - 9:29
    just to access certain accounts.
  • 9:30 - 9:33
So it saves a huge potential hassle.
  • 9:33 - 9:38
Also, I can use Surfshark to access all the
good Netflix shows that are geo-blocked.
  • 9:38 - 9:42
    So stay safe out there,
    have fun, and use Surfshark.
  • 9:42 - 9:44
    It comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • 9:44 - 9:46
    But I don’t think you’ll need it.
  • 9:46 - 9:49
Go to Surfshark dot com slash uncensored,
  • 9:49 - 9:53
    and use the code UNCENSORED
to get up to 4 months extra.
  • 9:53 - 9:55
The link is in the description below.
  • 9:55 - 9:59
Once again, I’m Matt Gnaizda. Thank
    you for watching China Uncensored.
