-
My name is Thois Wanma, I am from Papua, PV (Papuan Voices) Sorong Region.
-
My name is Immanuel. I am from Papuan Voices, Keerom Region.
-
What is Papuan Voices?
-
Papuan Voices is a documentary film community in Papua
-
about the human nature and nature of Papua, everything about social life and others life in Papua.
-
A Short documentary film that is usually made by Papuan Voices.
-
What issues are raise by Papuan Voices?
-
PV films raise issues such as economic problems, women problems,
-
and many other problems raised by PV.
-
Films that we make raise a lot of problems not to look for problems.
-
But educational films for the Papuan people themselves,
-
for example, making films in Merauke, then friends in Sorong can appear.
-
Because most of Papuan, people in other districts do not want to know (problems in other areas)
-
Educational film on how people in Sorong know how to deal with the forest environment,
-
or in Merauke such as large-scale plantation investments entering, and others.
-
At least Sorong or Manokwari know.
-
What are the activities of Papuan Voices?
-
Films that have been produced, we can do screening films on campus, usually in dormitories in the Jayapura city area,
-
Likewise, with Papuan Voices, other regions have screenings and discussions.
-
That's what PV does.
-
How are the social conditions in Papua?
-
When talking about conditions in Papua, Papua is very broad, a huge problem
-
such as economic problems, women's problems, so this year there are still many problems.
-
Therefore, PV tries to show the problem and how to discuss it.
-
So the films produced to know how to solve the problems.
-
social conditions that happening are a lot
-
For example, today there is a large investment coming in like in oil palm plantations.
-
The native people in the area don't know the work in the palm oil company like what is it.
-
What are the problems faced by Papuan Voices?
-
Language also affects film production.
-
An example I made in Mayalibit Bay, a native tribe of Maya.
-
Along the way they speak their own language.
-
There are difficulties to take pictures and editing,
-
Because I myself did not understand what they agreed to.
-
So, I have to find people to translate it into Indonesian and English too.
-
I come from Keerom Regency to have to take a long journey.
-
from one place to place takes up to 1-2 hours, local transport also expensive.
-
Why are you interested in Papuan Voices?
-
I am interested in PV because I have a high sense of concern for Papuans.
-
Papua is still lagging behind, so I want to discuss all those who go through their respective regions
-
That don't say that Papuan are rich in gold or other, even though the reality is in the field aren't like that.
-
When I went down by myself, Papuans were still left behind, faced with economic problems.
-
That makes me feel sad, that's why, I want to explain
-
that Papua does not need anything from the Government, but Papua only needs love/caring.
-
I am interested in PV because I think how to solve it
-
problems that exist and as young people, I want to do what I can do.
-
So that, when there was training from EngageMedia that helped set up PV, it was very fitting.
-
We make films not only to make, but to be watched by people.
