December 20 - When Jenny Said, “I Will Go”

  • 0:02 - 0:05
    Jenny came with a suitcase,
    a one-year plan,
  • 0:05 - 0:07
and a heart ready to serve.
  • 0:07 - 0:10
But when Jenny said "yes" to God's call,
  • 0:10 - 0:12
He opened doors she never imagined.
  • 0:13 - 0:19
    I've been really interested,
    passionate about, interested in missions,
  • 0:19 - 0:20
    since I was a kid.
  • 0:20 - 0:22
    When I was in college,
  • 0:22 - 0:26
I said one of the things
that is on my to-do list
  • 0:26 - 0:28
is to do a year in mission.
  • 0:29 - 0:31
    Fresh out of Andrews University
    in the United States,
  • 0:32 - 0:34
    Jenny volunteered
    to teach English in Chile.
  • 0:35 - 0:38
One year quickly became two, then three.
  • 0:39 - 0:44
She learned Spanish, found a new purpose,
    and eventually, a new home.
  • 0:44 - 0:46
    She served in several roles,
  • 0:46 - 0:50
    including as the Adventist Volunteer
    Service Director for her region.
  • 0:50 - 0:53
Along the way, she even met
    and married a Chilean,
  • 0:53 - 0:56
who also served as an Adventist volunteer.
  • 0:56 - 0:59
Then, a new invitation presented itself.
  • 0:59 - 1:04
This time, to teach Bible classes
    at Chile Adventist University.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
For Jenny, it was more than a job--
  • 1:06 - 1:08
    it was a calling fulfilled.
  • 1:08 - 1:11
    We'd already been considering
    coming to the university
  • 1:11 - 1:13
so that my husband could start studying,
  • 1:13 - 1:16
and right about when we were thinking
    of making that move,
  • 1:17 - 1:18
    we got the call.
  • 1:18 - 1:20
So we knew that had to be God's will.
  • 1:20 - 1:24
Today, she helps hundreds of students,
    mostly from non-Adventist homes,
  • 1:25 - 1:27
discover the Bible and meet Jesus.
  • 1:27 - 1:30
    A lot of the students
that are in our Bible classes
  • 1:30 - 1:34
    are starting from absolutely zero.
  • 1:34 - 1:39
And so it's very mission-minded in itself.
  • 1:39 - 1:41
    Many do Bible studies here,
  • 1:41 - 1:47
    many become interested
through the Bible classes in baptism,
  • 1:47 - 1:50
and some have even been baptized
    because of the classes.
  • 1:50 - 1:52
    Through Jenny's teaching and example,
  • 1:52 - 1:54
    she's inspiring a new generation
  • 1:54 - 1:56
    to make mission a priority
    in their own lives.
  • 1:57 - 1:59
Your 13th Sabbath Offering this quarter
  • 1:59 - 2:02
    will support Chile Adventist University
  • 2:02 - 2:04
    by helping to expand dormitories
  • 2:04 - 2:07
    and build a new missionary
    training center
  • 2:07 - 2:09
to prepare more students to say,
  • 2:09 - 2:12
"I will go wherever God leads."
  • 2:12 - 2:17
Because sometimes, a year of mission
can become a lifetime of impact.
