-
I'm going to tell you a story
about somebody
-
that came into clinic one day.
-
Um, he had always
been a really healthy guy.
-
No issues, really, but about a year ago,
-
he started noticing that he
had an increased urgency
-
and frequency to urinate at night.
-
Um, and it also burned
when he urinated, and it
-
was difficult for him
to keep a steady stream.
-
It kind of started and stopped,
and started and stopped.
-
He noticed he wasn't voiding
as much as usual,
-
and it felt like he could never
really empty his bladder.
-
He had pain in his back flank region,
-
and he started to
notice blood in his urine.
-
Um, and he said that it also
had a foul smell to it.
-
Um, he went to see his PCP,
who referred him to a physician
-
that specializes in the urinary system,
-
and another one that specializes
in the kidneys.
-
They said that they
may need to insert a camera
-
into his bladder, um, to look around,
-
but they were able to
diagnose him before they
-
had to do that procedure.
-
They ordered blood tests that indicated
-
that he had excess waste product
within his urine.
-
He also gave them a sample of his urine
-
to be tested with a dipstick,
and the dipstick results
-
came back with increased RBCs
-
and an enzyme associated
with leukocytes.
-
He had a DRE performed on him, um,
-
indicating that he had an enlarged organ
-
that interfered
with urine leaving his body.
-
Um, he was diagnosed
with two separate things.
-
One was regarding the urinary system,
-
and then the other one
regarding his reproductive system.
