My Top 10 Anticipated Trailers of 2025 - Delayed Input

  • Not Synced
    Let me ask you this,
  • Not Synced
if video games are not art,
  • Not Synced
why do they make me cry?
  • Not Synced
KYLE: We don't have a lot of annual
    traditions here at Delayed Input
  • Not Synced
but for the last 2 years running,
  • Not Synced
I have been making a list of my
    Top 10 Most Anticipated Trailers.
  • Not Synced
I figure we should keep it running tonight.
  • Not Synced
A couple of things to cover
before we get into the list itself.
  • Not Synced
Firstly, I believe that a good video game
    trailer doesn't necessarily have to
  • Not Synced
    present a good video game
    to be entertaining.
  • Not Synced
If the trailer's an absolute mess, it hasn't
necessarily wasted your time if you had fun.
  • Not Synced
    And, along those lines,
I feel like it's hard to anticipate
  • Not Synced
a trailer for a game that you have
    a pretty good understanding of.
  • Not Synced
I think an anticipated trailer needs a
certain level of mystery and dangerousness.
  • Not Synced
    Danger.
  • Not Synced
    Let's begin my:
  • Not Synced
    Now I know that's a basic pick.
    That's why it's #10.
  • Not Synced
But looking back at 2023's GTA VI trailer,
it racked up a lot of views,
  • Not Synced
    got a lot of attention.
    It's frankly-- It's a nice edit.
  • Not Synced
But do you know what was missing?
  • Not Synced
    Moments.
  • Not Synced
    And not like this.
    Not a moment like that.
  • Not Synced
I'm talking about a moment where you,
the player, are playing the video game,
  • Not Synced
    apparently doing something.
  • Not Synced
    A moment where a player
    is doing something,
  • Not Synced
preferably a thing that hasn't been
in a GTA game prior to this one.
  • Not Synced
    This was a teaser.
GTA VI has barely begun trailering.
  • Not Synced
I think the next one is gonna go wild.
  • Not Synced
    And on top of that,
    you get the additional benefit
  • Not Synced
of new anime games trying to look
like the new GTA VI trailers.
  • Not Synced
So this one almost counts for 2.
  • Not Synced
Hades II is facing a sort of
    marketing conundrum
  • Not Synced
    because the game's out.
    It's in Early Access.
  • Not Synced
I think that was right call
    for the video game itself
  • Not Synced
but it does kind of feel like it's
been around for a while at this point.
  • Not Synced
I wonder what a trailer has to do to
get people excited about version 1.0.
  • Not Synced
We're already seen the cinematic reveal
    of the new characters.
  • Not Synced
    New gameplay features will
    probably already be well understood.
  • Not Synced
And so it kinda seems like
    they're low on opportunities left
  • Not Synced
    to surprise and excite anybody
who hasn't bought in on this game yet.
  • Not Synced
I feel like one, the easiest
possible thing to do is wait,
  • Not Synced
    wait, wait, wait.
    Hold up, hold up
  • Not Synced
until the release date is really soon.
I think that would be a real exciting thing.
  • Not Synced
    "Here's the version 1.0 trailer
  • Not Synced
    and it's out next week."
You know, that kind of thing.
  • Not Synced
    But also, I think, like,
the strategy to use is, like,
  • Not Synced
when you see a kind of compelling trailer
    (or commercial, I mean)
  • Not Synced
    for a TV show
that you don't normally care about.
  • Not Synced
You know, when it's like, "This Thursday,
The Rookie witnesses a new crime."
  • Not Synced
    You don't care.
    But, "This Thursday,
  • Not Synced
    The Rookie might get murdered
by his daughter because of what he said
  • Not Synced
    at Bath & Body Works."
  • Not Synced
Suddenly, I got plans for Thursday.
  • Not Synced
Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it.
    EA is in the dumps.
  • Not Synced
    Dragon Age Veilguard whiffed
    and even worse,
  • Not Synced
people aren't buying ultimate team cards
for sports games like they used to.
  • Not Synced
    There's immense pressure on
    the Battlefield franchise to perform.
  • Not Synced
Like, it's now or never, right?
  • Not Synced
    But there's also immense pressure
    on this trailer.
  • Not Synced
    All they've shown so far
is this piece of concept art.
  • Not Synced
    You can already--
You can hear this. Sound like
  • Not Synced
    [Kyle makes intense SFX]
  • Not Synced
    The Battlefield trailer itself is
going to have to quickly demonstrate
  • Not Synced
    a good time.
  • Not Synced
I feel like that's the biggest difference
    between the marketing of
  • Not Synced
Call of Duty games and Battlefield games.
  • Not Synced
It's like, Battlefield seems dead set
    on conveying epic seriousness.
  • Not Synced
But if their intent is actually, actually
    to get back to basics,
  • Not Synced
I'd love to see a trailer where
  • Not Synced
    it shows you throwing C4
    onto your team's parked airplane
  • Not Synced
    and somebody gets in it
    and then you explode it
  • Not Synced
    and then they blow up.
  • Not Synced
    Like, that's part of Battlefield.
  • Not Synced
    I sense doubt from you.
  • Not Synced
There was a time, to be fair,
  • Not Synced
    where Square Enix would announce
    video games way too early.
  • Not Synced
    But without any evidence,
I'm here to tell you, that time is over.
  • Not Synced
    There's going to be a
Kingdom Hearts IV trailer in 2025
  • Not Synced
and it's gonna blow your socks off.
  • Not Synced
    Yep, just like Sora.
  • Not Synced
So it was, like, 14 months ago
when Sega put out this trailer.
  • Not Synced
I feel like it was met
    with a lot of excitement
  • Not Synced
    just based off of
    nostalgic brand recognition.
  • Not Synced
"Dang, they're bringing Golden Axe back?"
    we all said.
  • Not Synced
But I think the dark truth there
is that each of those games
  • Not Synced
    kind of benefited from
being a part of a montage.
  • Not Synced
It's like when me and all my cheerleader
friends stand next to each other.
  • Not Synced
    We're all generally more attractive
just from being a part of a group.
  • Not Synced
    I kinda get the impression
the same thing was happening here.
  • Not Synced
    Now, there poor Sega games
have to start coming out at some point.
  • Not Synced
No, I don't fear for Jet Set Radio.
    That one's in the bag.
  • Not Synced
    But really, what was happening
    with this Golden Axe game?
  • Not Synced
Working on this video game has to be
one of the easiest jobs on the whole planet.
  • Not Synced
Making a video game about Wolverine
is the simplest possible home run
  • Not Synced
you could ever have in your life.
It's like-- It's like, you get to--
  • Not Synced
You get to pick up the baseball
and walk it out of the stadium
  • Not Synced
and you get credit for that.
    It's like-- It's that level.
  • Not Synced
What I'm saying is that if Wolverine
has claws that cut, you could put--
  • Not Synced
You could put the whole game
    in a bread factory
  • Not Synced
and that's gonna be fun for 20 hours.
You don't have to worry about anything.
  • Not Synced
You don't have to worry about cutscenes
or enemy AI or global illumination.
  • Not Synced
You don't-- As long as Wolverine has claws
    that retract and come out
  • Not Synced
and can slice things, that an easy
    10 million dollar-- 10 million--
  • Not Synced
    And that's what so exciting
    about this upcoming trailer
  • Not Synced
    is that we're gonna know.
It will be apparent within 5 seconds
  • Not Synced
    whether the claws are good
    or
  • Not Synced
    need work.
  • Not Synced
A lot of these entries essentially
boil down to "Prove it," right?
  • Not Synced
    "Prove that you're fun.
    Prove that you're deep."
  • Not Synced
    I don't really worry
    about those things for Fable.
  • Not Synced
    Fable's greatest challenge ahead
    is proving that
  • Not Synced
    it';s funny.
  • Not Synced
Now if you read all the comments
    on this YouTube channel
  • Not Synced
    There is strangely one thing
that everyone seems to agree upon:
  • Not Synced
I'm kind of a master of comedy.
  • Not Synced
    [HONK]
So when I say this game isn't funny,
  • Not Synced
you know I don't say that lightly.
  • Not Synced
    They've been trying desperately
to convey a sense of wit
  • Not Synced
ever since that CGI reveal teaser.
    And frankly,
  • Not Synced
not once since have they earned
even the slightest huff of a laugh.
  • Not Synced
    GIANT: I'm here
    to conquer the vegetable.
  • Not Synced
    Not a euphemism.
  • Not Synced
    KYLE: [huffs]
  • Not Synced
Last year, I had PlayStation GAAS
on my list as a sort of,
  • Not Synced
"How are they gonna pull this off?"
    curiosity, right?
  • Not Synced
    "How are they gonna this?
    It's gonna be tough."
  • Not Synced
    This year,
obviously a lot of things have changed.
  • Not Synced
Yeah, there was Concord, if course.
  • Not Synced
Recently, 2 games were outright canceled.
  • Not Synced
    So if you want to
    advertise for video games,
  • Not Synced
I feel like Sony's upcoming slate
    of live service represents
  • Not Synced
    represents the maximum difficulty.
It's the hardest your job will ever be.
  • Not Synced
It's like going to a carnival and watching
    people play the basketball game
  • Not Synced
where the hoops are super high
    and shaped like ovals.
  • Not Synced
There's no possible way fir the ball
to fit inside of that hoop but
  • Not Synced
you're still back there watching people
try to do it because it's entertaining.
  • Not Synced
To the marketing team of Fairgame$,
  • Not Synced
    have fun.
  • Not Synced
    My second most anticipated trailer
    of 2025 is:
  • Not Synced
    So when Nintendo revealed
the Switch 2, finally, 2 weeks ago,
  • Not Synced
it did end with this end slate:
"If you have any more remaining questions
  • Not Synced
    please look forward to the
    Nintendo Direct on April 2nd."
  • Not Synced
That's 2 freakin' months from now.
  • Not Synced
    And seemingly, publishers and developers
    are still unallowed to announce
  • Not Synced
that they have Switch 2 games
    in development.
  • Not Synced
So what we're lookin' at here
    is basically
  • Not Synced
maybe the longest runway of excitement
Nintendo has ever given for a Nintendo Direct.
  • Not Synced
With all due respect to Mr. Keighley,
I feel like this is going to be
  • Not Synced
    the most hyped-up showcase
    of the entire year.
  • Not Synced
    Imagine what they could possibly
    end this showcase with.
  • Not Synced
    'Cause Nintendo knows.
They know to save their best thing for last.
  • Not Synced
They know they have a surprise
  • Not Synced
locked and loaded for the end of their
biggest Nintendo Direct of the last 5 years.
  • Not Synced
    What if--?
    What if--? What if--?
  • Not Synced
    I'm just sayin' "What if?"
  • Not Synced
    What if this thing ends
with a new Smash Bros. trailer?
  • Not Synced
Do you understand what I'm asking you?
  • Not Synced
    Do you understand,
you could watch every movie in the year,
  • Not Synced
you could go to every concert,
  • Not Synced
    you would witness
someone rescuing a dog from a river,
  • Not Synced
and a new Sakurai directed trailer will
still be the best thing you've seen all year.
  • Not Synced
    And, #1:
  • Not Synced
And again, I realize it's an obvious pick.
    We all agree on this.
  • Not Synced
    We're all wondering,
    "What's going on with Digimon?"
  • Not Synced
How come Bandai Namco put so
many resources into Sword Art Online and
  • Not Synced
    Sand Land games
    when Digimon are right there?
  • Not Synced
Bandai Namco, have you seen Gabumon?
  • Not Synced
    That's flawless design.
    He's perfect.
  • Not Synced
    You own him.
    That's YOUR IP.
  • Not Synced
Now, last year Bandai Namco did announce
that they're canceling 5 in development games.
  • Not Synced
If any of them were Digimon games,
  • Not Synced
    that company is truly lost.
    They're harming society.
  • Not Synced
If there is to be a Digimon game this year
  • Not Synced
    featuring even the modest budget
of a Synduality Echo of Ada
  • Not Synced
    (you know, something like this),
    its trailer will
  • Not Synced
shake and destroy the very foundations
of the games industry as you know it.
  • Not Synced
I won't have to be here every week talking
about rising costs and studio closures.
  • Not Synced
    Gabumon will cure all that.
  • Not Synced
    And that concludes my
    Top 10 Most-Anticipated Trailers
  • Not Synced
    and, of course, Delayed Input.
I will be back next week.
  • Not Synced
    Thanks for watching.
  • Not Synced
    You may have noticed
    throughout this entire video
  • Not Synced
    I neglected to show you
    2024's Most-Anticipated Games list.
  • Not Synced
And the truth is, I though it would undercut
the stakes of what we're doing here
  • Not Synced
because it turned out so bad.
But, you have the right to know.
  • Not Synced
    It looked like this.
  • Not Synced
    Yeah, Final Fantasy IX, BioShock,
    and, technically, New Nintendo Hardware
  • Not Synced
    didn't make it into 2024.
  • Not Synced
That means I did have a
    higher hit percentage than 2023
  • Not Synced
    but that's not the point.
  • Not Synced
    A lot of the trailers
    I was anticipating turned out
  • Not Synced
    unremarkable.
  • Not Synced
You're basically looking at a list
    of unspecial trailers.
  • Not Synced
    And I stand by it.
That Metroid Prime 4 trailer from last year
  • Not Synced
    was not that good.
    Maybe restrained.
  • Not Synced
    Maybe they wanted to show
    as little as possible.
  • Not Synced
But, yeah, that made for a boring trailer.
  • Not Synced
    Truly, though, truly,
  • Not Synced
the number one thing I'm most disappointed
we didn't see much of in 2024 was
  • Not Synced
    yeah, down there:
  • Not Synced
I was truly expecting more games
to try to capitalize and chase that
  • Not Synced
    fearlessly horny attention that
    Baldur's Gate 3 got in 2023.
  • Not Synced
Maybe I didn't give them enough time.
I'm not giving up on that one.
  • Not Synced
I DO think that's going to be
    a trend in 2025.
  • Not Synced
And so I do have a few more:
  • Not Synced
    also
  • Not Synced
    So yeah,
it's probably not crazy to assume
  • Not Synced
    there's gonna be Balatro-like games
    in 2025 and beyond.
  • Not Synced
But I think we're also gonna see trailers
that communicate in Balatro language, right?
  • Not Synced
    Like a trailer that can--
    You know how, like,
  • Not Synced
    when somebody wakes up
from spawning in trailer you know,
  • Not Synced
    "Oh, okay, I'm basically--
    I'm watching a roguelike."
  • Not Synced
    I think there's gonna be
    things like that for Balatro-likes
  • Not Synced
where it's like you see them
    hit their blinds.
  • Not Synced
    It's like, "Okay, yeah."
    You get what this is.
  • Not Synced
    I think Stellar Blade basically
figured out the ratio last year
  • Not Synced
    of how much big butt
one can put into a video game trailer
  • Not Synced
while still having enough regular video game
around it to look like a regular video game.
  • Not Synced
    The prototype is out there.
    There will be copycats.
  • Not Synced
    And finally,
#4 on the Trailer Trend Watch:
  • Not Synced
This one you might have to hear me out on.
  • Not Synced
    So in a movie trailer,
    an actor doesn't always necessarily
  • Not Synced
    need to be saying something
    or doing something,
  • Not Synced
    Sometimes they are merely there.
    They're present and blinking emotionally.
  • Not Synced
    You know, like:
  • Not Synced
    Video games typically
can't afford to be so mundane.
  • Not Synced
Video games in the 2010s needed explosions
to prove they were graphically impressive.
  • Not Synced
    In the 2020s,
it's all gonna be about emotional blink.
  • Not Synced
    [explosion sound]
