The Yards

That fall, I remember

I was collecting yards;

Wherever I was

I had my eyes
Focused on the gardens

I was reaching out the hands

grabbing greedily
Every curve, every line

And then I was walking
Many hours

I was crossing deserted roads

Without voice

Without signs

My hands were hurting

The shoulders were bent

I was becoming a whole
A bird

I was breaking the asphalt all night
With the mouth wet

Welcoming the rose mornings
With broken teeth

With empty hands

And with pebbles on the feet
