Tiny Science Amazing Precipitation Chemical Reaction | Make Science Fun

  • 0:01 - 0:01
    G'day,
  • 0:01 - 0:03
I'm Jacob from Make Science Fun.
  • 0:03 - 0:07
Today, I'm doing the classic lead iodide precipitation reaction.
  • 0:08 - 0:09
    Oh wow!
  • 0:18 - 0:19
    In the glass below,
  • 0:20 - 0:23
I've got a clear colorless solution of potassium iodide,
  • 0:23 - 0:25
and now I release into it a clear,
  • 0:25 - 0:27
    colorless solution of lead nitrate.
  • 0:27 - 0:31
Both potassium iodide and lead nitrate are soluble in water,
  • 0:31 - 0:33
    but when they mix together,
  • 0:33 - 0:35
    they form an insoluble
  • 0:36 - 0:37
    precipitate
  • 0:37 - 0:38
    called lead iodide.
  • 0:39 - 0:42
The yellow lead iodide forms a suspension
  • 0:42 - 0:45
and slowly sinks to the base.
  • 0:45 - 0:46
    Well,
  • 0:46 - 0:47
thanks so much for joining me today.
  • 0:48 - 0:49
And I'll see you guys soon.
  • 0:50 - 0:50
    Bye.
