    Hey everyone, Yoisten here
  • 0:08 - 0:09
and I hope you all are doing well
  • 0:09 - 0:10
wherever you are in Middle Earth.
  • 0:10 - 0:12
Here is the important information from
  • 0:12 - 0:14
the First Age in under five minutes.
  • 0:14 - 0:20
To keep this short, my intro and outro
  • Not Synced
    will be very quick.
  • Not Synced
Links are in the description, and cards
  • Not Synced
for more complete telling of the history.
  • Not Synced
    Thanks for joining me,
  • Not Synced
    let's begin our tale.
  • Not Synced
At the beginning of the First Age, after
  • Not Synced
the arrival of the sun and moon,
  • Not Synced
the elves of Fingolfin came to Beleriand
  • Not Synced
    in north-western Middle Earth and
  • Not Synced
won a battle against Morgoth's forces,
  • Not Synced
while across the world Men awoke for
  • Not Synced
    the first time.
  • Not Synced
Fingolfin's host met that of Fëanor,
  • Not Synced
    who's new leader, Maedhros,
  • Not Synced
    had been captured.
  • Not Synced
Fingon son of Fingolfin, with the help of
  • Not Synced
Thorondor king of the eagles, would
  • Not Synced
    save Maedhros from Thangorodrim
  • Not Synced
    (the volcanic mountains outside of
  • Not Synced
    Morgoth's fortress of Angband).
  • Not Synced
To broker peace amongst the Noldor,
  • Not Synced
Maedhros surrendered the crown to his
  • Not Synced
    half-uncle Fingolfin.
  • Not Synced
The respective lords of the elves would
  • Not Synced
remove across Beleriand, beginning work on
  • Not Synced
and establishing their realms to come.
  • Not Synced
The sons of Fëanor settled in the east,
  • Not Synced
Fingon and Fingolfin stayed in the north
  • Not Synced
    (at Hithlum),
  • Not Synced
Finrod went on to establish Nargothrond,
  • Not Synced
    and Turgon made Gondolin,
  • Not Synced
as the Noldor went to live alongside the
  • Not Synced
    Sindar elves of Thingol and
  • Not Synced
    Cirdan the shipwright.
  • Not Synced
After the Noldor were established in
  • Not Synced
    Middle Earth, they besieged Angband
  • Not Synced
in a glorious battle; holding Morgoth's
  • Not Synced
keep under siege for centuries to come.
  • Not Synced
Yet, the Doom of the Noldor began to take
  • Not Synced
hold in these years, as Thingol found out
  • Not Synced
    about the Kinslaying, drawing more
  • Not Synced
division between the Wood Elves and
  • Not Synced
the High Elves of the West.
  • Not Synced
    Morgoth would create the dragons,
  • Not Synced
beginning with Glaurung the father of
  • Not Synced
dragons, then Men would come west, meeting
  • Not Synced
Finrod and then the other elves.
  • Not Synced
Their three houses of the Edain,
  • Not Synced
the houses of Hador, Beor and Haleth,
  • Not Synced
would come to live in different places in
  • Not Synced
    Beleriand, working alongside the different
  • Not Synced
    factions of elves as well.
  • Not Synced
Finally, the time came when Morgoth's
  • Not Synced
forces were ready to reemerge, and so
  • Not Synced
came the Battle of the Sudden Flame.
  • Not Synced
Dragons, Balrogs, orcs, trolls, and other
  • Not Synced
vile creatures came with the eruption of
  • Not Synced
Thangorodrim, driving many elves and men
  • Not Synced
back, and killing many of them as well.
  • Not Synced
High King Fingolfin went to Angband and
  • Not Synced
    challenged Morgoth himself, wounding
  • Not Synced
him, but the king died in the end, and
  • Not Synced
    his son Fingon inherited the
  • Not Synced
    High Kingship after him.
  • Not Synced
During this battle, the man Barahir and
  • Not Synced
    his company saved Finrod.
  • Not Synced
Finrod swore him and his line an oath
  • Not Synced
    to aid them.
  • Not Synced
He would be called upon by Barahir's son
  • Not Synced
Beren after the man fell in love with the
  • Not Synced
maiden Lúthien in Doriath, setting forth
  • Not Synced
on a quest to reclaim a Silmaril from
  • Not Synced
the crown of Morgoth for the Wood Elven
  • Not Synced
    King Thingol.
  • Not Synced
Although it cost Finrod his life, and many
  • Not Synced
    conflicts would ensue between Beren,
  • Not Synced
Lúthien, and the forces of Morgoth-
  • Not Synced
including Sauron- as well as some of the
  • Not Synced
sons of Fëanor, the Silmaril was reclaimed
  • Not Synced
and given to Thingol, and the first union
  • Not Synced
    of Man and Elf commenced.
  • Not Synced
In the aftermath of this, the elves and
  • Not Synced
men of the world united to push back
  • Not Synced
against Morgoth; but this became the
  • Not Synced
    Battle of Unnumbered Tears instead,
  • Not Synced
where many, including High King Fingon,
  • Not Synced
perished, making his brother Turgon of
  • Not Synced
Gondolin the new High King of the Noldor.
  • Not Synced
In the wake of this battle, the child
  • Not Synced
Túrin came to live at Doriath and was
  • Not Synced
    brought up by Thingol.
  • Not Synced
He and his family were cursed, and his
  • Not Synced
story caused much chaos, including the
  • Not Synced
fall of Nargothrond and the death of
  • Not Synced
    Glaurung and Túrin himself.
  • Not Synced
After Túrin's death, his father Húrin
  • Not Synced
would be released by Morgoth, and he
  • Not Synced
    would bring the necklace
  • Not Synced
    Nauglamír to Thingol.
  • Not Synced
Thingol would employ the Dwarves of the
  • Not Synced
Blue Mountains to put the Silmaril and
  • Not Synced
    the Nauglamír together- resulting in
  • Not Synced
    his death, and strife between
  • Not Synced
    Dwarves and Elves.
  • Not Synced
The sons of Fëanor would eventually
  • Not Synced
    destroy Doriath in another Kinslaying,
  • Not Synced
attempting to reclaim the Silmaril of
  • Not Synced
    their father.
  • Not Synced
Around the same time, Túrin's cousin Tuor
  • Not Synced
had been on a journey of his own from
  • Not Synced
the god Ulmo, who tasked him with
  • Not Synced
warning High King Turgon of the coming
  • Not Synced
    end of Gondolin, and so he came there;
  • Not Synced
but the elf king would not heed
  • Not Synced
    this warning.
  • Not Synced
    Tuor married Turgon's daughter Idril,
  • Not Synced
and they produced a son named Eärendil.
  • Not Synced
Gondolin fell by the treachery of Idril's
  • Not Synced
cousin Maeglin, and Turgon was slain with
  • Not Synced
    many of his people.
  • Not Synced
The High Kingship then fell to Gil-Galad,
  • Not Synced
    his kinsman.
  • Not Synced
With the coming of Thingol's Silmaril to
  • Not Synced
the Havens by Elwing, a third Kinslaying
  • Not Synced
was launched by the sons of Fëanor, which
  • Not Synced
saw the Silmaril taken to Valinor by the
  • Not Synced
    married Eärendil and Elwing.
  • Not Synced
This voyage resulted in the Valar aiding
  • Not Synced
the free peoples against Morgoth, and
  • Not Synced
creating the choice of the Half-Elves.
  • Not Synced
The Valar made Eärendil a star with
  • Not Synced
the Silmaril, and the people of the Valar
  • Not Synced
    made war on Morgoth in Beleriand;
  • Not Synced
the War of Wrath, ending with the downfall
  • Not Synced
of Morgoth and many of his
  • Not Synced
    most evil works.
  • Not Synced
    Beleriand, having suffered too much
  • Not Synced
    damage from this war,
  • Not Synced
    sank beneath the sea.
  • Not Synced
    Many important elves went east
  • Not Synced
    into Middle Earth.
  • Not Synced
The faithful men of Beleriand were given
  • Not Synced
    the island of Numenor.
  • Not Synced
The sons of Eärendil and Elwing,
  • Not Synced
Elrond and Elros, became leaders of
  • Not Synced
    Elves and Men respectively, and
  • Not Synced
the Silmarils found their way into the
  • Not Synced
sky, earth, and seas, with the sons
  • Not Synced
of Fëanor ending their part in the story.
  • Not Synced
Thus ended the First Age of Middle Earth.
