Reshma, a resident of Chowkibal in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, recounts the terrifying night of May 6 when cross-border shelling shattered her sense of safety.

"At around 4 AM, a loud explosion jolted us from our sleep," she says. "My son’s room was hit — window panes were blown out and cracks ran through the walls. We fled the house in panic."

Reshma and her family were forced to abandon their home and take refuge elsewhere for several days. "I returned after four days, still trembling. When I saw the condition of our home, tears filled my eyes."

Her story echoes the trauma of many families living along the Line of Control, who continue to live under the constant threat of shelling and displacement. Locals are calling for urgent protective measures and government assistance to rebuild their lives and homes in these high-risk zones.
