Law of Moses: Sin and Death - Law of Christ: Freedom and Life / Kingdom School - Lesson 5

  • Not Synced
Welcome to Lesson 5 of the Kingdom school. I'm very excited to be with you.
  • Not Synced
I think that this lesson will bless you a lot.
  • Not Synced
Some of you will experience freedom today.
  • Not Synced
Some of you will have never heard this before.
  • Not Synced
But I know some people will have an issue with what I'm sharing.
  • Not Synced
But please bear with me. You’ll see that these things are actually biblical.
  • Not Synced
Let’s start. I hope you're ready. Lesson 4 was called: ‘Saved out of Egypt:
  • Not Synced
Our journey of salvation.’ I love that lesson.
  • Not Synced
I want to start now by reading this beautiful feedback:
  • Not Synced
A man wrote here: ‘Brother Torben! I'm 72 years old.
  • Not Synced
This is the first time I've heard the Full Gospel message like this:
  • Not Synced
Preached out of the Old Testament. That is such a great teaching.
  • Not Synced
The Church needs to hear it, even more than the lost.’
  • Not Synced
So, this man is 72 years old.
  • Not Synced
This was the first time he’s heard the
gospel preached out of the Old Testament.
  • Not Synced
This comment really affected me. I experienced exactly the same thing in jail.
  • Not Synced
  • Not Synced
God revealed it to me in a new way: the gospel in the Old and New Testaments.
  • Not Synced
The gospel of the Kingdom. Much of this was new for me.
  • Not Synced
This is what the church needs. God brought me to jail to reveal this to me.
  • Not Synced
So I get extremely excited when I receive a comment like this.
  • Not Synced
    The first four lessons:
  • Not Synced
Lesson 1: The Beginning of Eden to the new Heaven and Earth:
  • Not Synced
The Fall, Noah, and the Flood.
  • Not Synced
    Lesson 2: Abraham Our Father:
  • Not Synced
This happened after the fall, wickedness and destruction.
  • Not Synced
How God desired a people who are His, beginning with Abraham.
  • Not Synced
He is the father of Faith - a man had a family that later became a nation.
  • Not Synced
Lesson 3: I explained how that nation was called out of Egypt.
  • Not Synced
Likewise, we are called out of Babylon.
  • Not Synced
It was called: ‘Called out of Egypt’: How
that nation was called out from Egypt.
  • Not Synced
How we today are called out to be the Church.
  • Not Synced
We are set apart as God's holy people.
  • Not Synced
I love that lesson. I want to start with a personal testimony.
  • Not Synced
Last week, my daughter Simone got married.
  • Not Synced
Here’s a picture of the area just outside
this studio. I'm standing there, smiling.
  • Not Synced
Simone and Joshua have just said “Yes” to each other. They were so excited.
  • Not Synced
This wedding, this past week, is the strongest picture for me of this:
  • Not Synced
The church is those who are called out. They are holy and separated.
  • Not Synced
This wedding was holy and so beautiful.
  • Not Synced
The fear of God was there in a beautiful way.
  • Not Synced
What happened just a few hours before this?
  • Not Synced
I saw my daughter Simone in her wedding dress for the first time.
  • Not Synced
Her hair was done. She had makeup on and everything. It was so, so beautiful.
  • Not Synced
Here is a one-minute video of my reaction.
  • Not Synced
For the first time I saw my daughter standing in the beautiful wedding dress.
  • Not Synced
My reaction surprised me. I really broke down.
  • Not Synced
I want to show you this clip and then will continue talking it.
  • Not Synced
[Unclear speech and Danish, crying] So, you can see here that I broke down.
  • Not Synced
It’s in Danish so it’s hard to understand. Not a lot was said:
  • Not Synced
“You're beautiful”, “I love you Simone”, “I love you Dad”
  • Not Synced
It was a strong experience for me. I saw my daughter there.
  • Not Synced
She was so holy, beautiful, clean and ready to be given away to Joshua.
  • Not Synced
This is what the bride is. She is called-out and separated.
  • Not Synced
She is ready for her husband. Here are some verses.
  • Not Synced
Paul wrote: “For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself”
  • Not Synced
God is also jealous for His people.
  • Not Synced
“I promised you as a pure bride to one husband – Christ.”
  • Not Synced
So Paul promised the church as a pure bride to one husband.
  • Not Synced
That husband is Christ. Here are so many beautiful pictures.
  • Not Synced
Revelation 19: “Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honour to him.
  • Not Synced
For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride”
  • Not Synced
the church “has prepared herself.” We, the church, prepare ourselves:
  • Not Synced
“She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear” What is that?
  • Not Synced
“For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God's holy people.”
  • Not Synced
Here’s a photo of myself walking with my daughter Simone. Here’s the kiss.
  • Not Synced
I actually made a video about it. This is the thumbnail.
  • Not Synced
If you’ve not seen the video, please do.
  • Not Synced
I explain that this was the first time they’d kissed each other.
  • Not Synced
He has been living with us for four years.
  • Not Synced
They never touched each other intimately or kissed each other.
  • Not Synced
After the wedding, they left. Then these two virgins became one flesh.
  • Not Synced
The blood was spilled. They entered into a covenant.
  • Not Synced
Watch the video. Look at this wedding.
  • Not Synced
See that we, the church, have fallen far away from God's grace and intentions.
  • Not Synced
This wedding was an extremely clear example of what we should be:
  • Not Synced
Called-out, holy and separated. We should be purifying ourselves.
  • Not Synced
We’re not only invited to a wedding: We’re the bride. We’re living for that day.
  • Not Synced
I’ll talk a lot more about the wedding feast and God’s kingdom in another lesson.
  • Not Synced
But this is an extremely beautiful example of the topic we’re speaking about here.
  • Not Synced
There’s a link under this video.
  • Not Synced
Please watch my video: “Now you may kiss the bride”.
  • Not Synced
I explain that the wedding is connected with the God’s kingdom.
  • Not Synced
We’re invited to the wedding feast.
  • Not Synced
Lesson 4: The Process of Being Called Out: The Israelites were called out.
  • Not Synced
Likewise, we must remove the yeast from our house (repentance).
  • Not Synced
There’s the blood (the cross) and the Red Sea (baptism into Christ).
  • Not Synced
Then the Israelites walked through the wilderness toward the Promised Land.
  • Not Synced
They were guided by the Pillar of Cloud and Fire.
  • Not Synced
Likewise, we’ve received the Holy Spirit. We walk by the Spirit toward our goal:
  • Not Synced
The heavenly Jerusalem will come down from heaven.
  • Not Synced
Those were the first four lessons. We’ll
move on now. I’ll talk about Moses today.
  • Not Synced
Next time, we’ll look at the New and Old Covenant and how they work together.
  • Not Synced
Today, we’ll look at Moses and the giving of the law.
  • Not Synced
From the law with Moses, to truth and grace in Christ.
  • Not Synced
There’s a difference between the old and new covenants.
  • Not Synced
Lesson 5’s focus is on Freedom from sin.
  • Not Synced
We’re called to be free and to live holy lives.
  • Not Synced
After a few more lessons, we’ll look at
how David is connected with God’s kingdom.
  • Not Synced
Then there’ll be a permanent shift.
  • Not Synced
Instead of focussing on the nation of Israel, we'll focus on the kingdom.
  • Not Synced
I hope you're ready. I’ll pray and then we'll start.
  • Not Synced
God, I thank You for this revelation. I thank You for Your truth.
  • Not Synced
I pray that it will bring understanding, God.
  • Not Synced
That it will bring truth and freedom to people, God.
  • Not Synced
That they will experience the freedom, Jesus, that You have for them.
  • Not Synced
Come with Your Holy Spirit. Help me to share this.
  • Not Synced
Help people to receive this, God. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
  • Not Synced
Lesson 5 will also be long. I will talk about a lot of things.
  • Not Synced
But there’ll be a break in the middle, if you need it.
  • Not Synced
Lesson 5: The law of Moses. There is the word ‘Death’. That law brings death.
  • Not Synced
The law of Christ: That law brings life. Here you can see:
  • Not Synced
    True understanding brings:
  • Not Synced
Freedom from sin, holiness, purity, victory and eternal life.
  • Not Synced
What happened with my daughter and Joshua? Now you may kiss your bride.
  • Not Synced
This was the first time they kissed and were together.
  • Not Synced
That’s the fruit of a true understanding. It is not about an external law.
  • Not Synced
It’s actually about the heart. This comes from a true understanding.
  • Not Synced
A false understanding brings slavery to sin, a double life and eternal death.
  • Not Synced
A true understanding of what the law means for us today, will bring that.
  • Not Synced
A false understanding of the law will bring this.
  • Not Synced
A true understanding of grace will bring this.
  • Not Synced
A false understanding of grace will bring this.
  • Not Synced
Some people with a false understanding talk a lot about the law.
  • Not Synced
You can know a tree by the fruit.
  • Not Synced
Those people are enslaved and living a double life.
  • Not Synced
But others talk a lot about grace.
  • Not Synced
They are also enslaved and living a double life.
  • Not Synced
They don't have the right understanding of it.
  • Not Synced
It’s important to say this at the beginning, when we look at the law of Moses.
  • Not Synced
Let’s move on: It’s possible to divide this law into three parts:
  • Not Synced
    1. Commandments governing their personal lives.
  • Not Synced
    2. Law for their social lives with one another.
  • Not Synced
    3. Ordination for religious lives. We can
divide the law like this. I am not a Jew.
  • Not Synced
    I've never been a Jew. I'm a Gentile and a born-again believer. I'm grafted in.
  • Not Synced
The promise is mine. But I'm not a Jew. The law was given to Israel as a nation.
  • Not Synced
Actually, it was never given to those who are Gentiles and live in another country.
  • Not Synced
It's really important to understand this concept. Right now, I’m in Mexico.
  • Not Synced
I used to live in America.
  • Not Synced
In America, you’re allowed to drive through a red light if you’re turning right.
  • Not Synced
This is not breaking the law. But it's different in Mexico.
  • Not Synced
I can’t drive through a red light and turn right, apart from a few exceptions.
  • Not Synced
In Europe, it's even worse. There, I’m never allowed to drive through a red light.
  • Not Synced
But here in Mexico, I can’t say, “But they do that in Denmark. Or in America.
  • Not Synced
So, I can do it.” No. I'm here now. It matters where you are.
  • Not Synced
I can see a great lack of understanding here.
  • Not Synced
Gentiles didn’t have ancestors living in Israel.
  • Not Synced
But those Gentiles try to apply the law of Moses to today
  • Not Synced
    – how we should live with each other.
  • Not Synced
Some try to apply the religious laws of offerings and sacrifices today.
  • Not Synced
But those have nothing do with us.
  • Not Synced
It all goes wrong, if we don’t understand to whom the law was given and when.
  • Not Synced
If we don’t understand the covenant that it was part of.
  • Not Synced
This is extremely important. True understanding brings freedom.
  • Not Synced
You can fall into one of two ditches, when listening to teaching about this.
  • Not Synced
One ditch is legalism, where you try to go under the law and become bound to it.
  • Not Synced
The other is lawlessness, where you say:
I'm not under the law of Moses. I'm free.
  • Not Synced
They don’t understand that we are under a different law now, the law of Christ.
  • Not Synced
That law is written on your heart. I’ll talk about that later.
  • Not Synced
So, there's a narrow road between two ditches.
  • Not Synced
On one side is legalism, and on the other side is lawlessness.
  • Not Synced
We’re called to live in the middle of the road. I hope you're ready.
  • Not Synced
Exodus 20 is about Moses and the Ten Commandments.
  • Not Synced
Exodus 19: “Now if you obey me fully” Not 30% or half but fully
  • Not Synced
“and keep my covenant, then out of all
nations you'll be my treasured possession.
  • Not Synced
Although the whole earth is mine,
  • Not Synced
you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”
  • Not Synced
Whom did God say that to? The
Israelites, not the Danish or Americans.
  • Not Synced
He said that to Israel. The promise was given to them. The law was given to them.
  • Not Synced
They needed to fully obey God’s commands. Then He would do His part.
  • Not Synced
We read here: “The people all responded together,
  • Not Synced
“We will do everything the LORD has said.” Did they do what God had commanded?
  • Not Synced
No. But God did not give up. Keep my commands (laws).
  • Not Synced
Then you'll be my treasured possession… a kingdom of priests, a holy nation…
  • Not Synced
I’ll talk about that later. Let’s read a longer text that describes this"
  • Not Synced
What actually happened when the law was given and Moses was on the mountain.
  • Not Synced
This is a very significant event compared to others recorded in the Bible.
  • Not Synced
Exodus 19: “On the morning of the third day, there was thunder and lightning,
  • Not Synced
with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast.
  • Not Synced
Everyone in the camp trembled.” The spectacle was frightening.
  • Not Synced
“Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God,
  • Not Synced
and they stood at the foot of the mountain.
  • Not Synced
Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the LORD descended on it in fire.
  • Not Synced
The smoke billowed up…” It was an incredible spectacle.
  • Not Synced
“As the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke,
  • Not Synced
and the voice of God answered him.” Moses talked with God.
  • Not Synced
“The LORD descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses
  • Not Synced
to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up.” What a spectacle!
  • Not Synced
“And the LORD said to him, “Go down and warn the people
  • Not Synced
so they do not force their way through to see the LORD and many of them perish.”
  • Not Synced
So Moses was commanded to prevent the people from going up.
  • Not Synced
Otherwise, they would die. Why? Because this was a holy place.
  • Not Synced
A holy moment. We read here: “Even the priests, who approach the LORD,
  • Not Synced
must consecrate themselves, or the LORD will break out against them.”
  • Not Synced
So God was there. His holiness was there.
  • Not Synced
The other Israelites couldn’t simply approach God like Moses could.
  • Not Synced
The priest needed to consecrate themselves.
  • Not Synced
Otherwise, God would break out against them. Then we read:
  • Not Synced
“When Moses went and told the people all the LORD's words and laws,
  • Not Synced
they responded with one voice, “Everything the LORD has said we will do.”
  • Not Synced
Moses then wrote down everything the LORD had said.”
  • Not Synced
Moses built an altar. Israelites sacrificed offerings on it.
  • Not Synced
I’m going through this quickly. “Moses then took half of the blood…
  • Not Synced
the other he splashed against the altar. Then he took the Book of the Covenant
  • Not Synced
and read it to the people. They responded,
    “We will do everything the LORD has said;
  • Not Synced
we will obey.” Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said,
  • Not Synced
“This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you
  • Not Synced
in accordance with all these words.” So,
Moses went up to God. God spoke to Moses.
  • Not Synced
Moses wrote it all down, and built an altar. They slaughtered animals.
  • Not Synced
Moses splashed half of the blood against the altar.
  • Not Synced
He sprinkled the other half on the people. They had replied,
  • Not Synced
“We will obey everything the Lord have said.” But did they do that?
  • Not Synced
No, they didn’t. Read this: “This is the blood of the covenant
  • Not Synced
that the LORD has made” This points to the New Testament.
  • Not Synced
Jesus said, “This is my blood of the New Covenant.” It points to Jesus.
  • Not Synced
Let’s continue: “The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain
  • Not Synced
and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law
  • Not Synced
and commandments I have written for their instruction.”
  • Not Synced
When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it.
  • Not Synced
Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain.
  • Not Synced
And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.”
  • Not Synced
Please read the whole of Exodus, because
it's very important. This is our history.
  • Not Synced
It’s not just a Jewish story. It’s our story. All of this points to Christ.
  • Not Synced
In chapter 24, Moses went up the mountain.
  • Not Synced
In chapters 25 to 31, are some of the things God revealed to Moses. Chapter 25:
  • Not Synced
The Ark of the Covenant, the Table for the Bread and the Golden Lampstand.
  • Not Synced
Chapter 26: The Tabernacle (Tent of Meeting):
  • Not Synced
where God came down later and met with them, while they were traveling around.
  • Not Synced
Chapter 27: The Bronze Altar. Chapter 28: The Priests’ Garments.
  • Not Synced
Chapter 29: Consecration of the Priests. Chapter 30: The Altar of Incense.
  • Not Synced
Chapter 31: The Sabbath. We read after that: “When the LORD finished
  • Not Synced
speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave
him the two tablets of the covenant law,
  • Not Synced
the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.”
  • Not Synced
But what happened while Moses was on the mountain in God’s presence?
  • Not Synced
Only a short time before, the people had said,
  • Not Synced
“We will do everything the LORD has said; we will obey.”
  • Not Synced
But not long after, they did the opposite, while Moses was on the mountain.
  • Not Synced
We read here: “When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down
  • Not Synced
from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said,
  • Not Synced
“Come, make us gods who will go before us.
  • Not Synced
As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt,
  • Not Synced
we don't know what has happened to him.””
  • Not Synced
Try to imagine this situation. They’d said, “God, we want to obey you.”
  • Not Synced
Then Moses had sprinkled the blood of the covenant on the people.
  • Not Synced
Moses had gone up the mountain. After less than 40 days, they said
  • Not Synced
“We don't know what’s happened about Moses. Let's make a golden calf.”
  • Not Synced
Then they broke God's law. I’ll talk more about that later.
  • Not Synced
They actually broke the first two of the ten commandments:
  • Not Synced
You shall have no other gods before me.
  • Not Synced
You shan't make yourself an image in the
form of anything in heaven or on earth.
  • Not Synced
You shall not bow down to them. But that’s
what they did. They made a golden calf.
  • Not Synced
What did they call it? “This is the LORD who brought us out of Egypt.
  • Not Synced
This is the LORD our God, Yahweh, who brought us out of Egypt.”
  • Not Synced
They did not change God's name but they changed his image.
  • Not Synced
We do the same in our minds today. We say, “We serve God, the god of the Bible.
  • Not Synced
We serve Christ Jesus.” We don’t change God’s name.
  • Not Synced
But we change His image in our minds. Suddenly, this is a different Jesus.
  • Not Synced
A different God. I want to ask: Is your God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?
  • Not Synced
Is He the God who brought the Israelites out of Egypt?
  • Not Synced
If not, you’ve made yourself an idol. You are serving a different god.
  • Not Synced
You’ve done the same as the Israelites. Many people do that today.
  • Not Synced
They serve a New Testament god, full of grace and mercy.
  • Not Synced
They say that the Old Testament god was
evil. But the Bible is true story.
  • Not Synced
I’ll talk about that later. Three thousand people were killed that day.
  • Not Synced
I’ll talk about that, shortly. Before we continue, I want to remind you of this:
  • Not Synced
The covenants point to Christ and the New Covenant.
  • Not Synced
I want to show you these pictures and shadows, that'll become clear to you.
  • Not Synced
We’ve looked now at Noah, Abraham and Moses.
  • Not Synced
With Noah, the sign of the covenant was the rainbow:
  • Not Synced
    A sign of hope and a new beginning for those who were saved in the ark;
  • Not Synced
the rest perished in the waters. With Abraham, circumcision was the sign:
  • Not Synced
The cutting of the foreskin was a sign of the Covenant
  • Not Synced
    - so that the people would not be cut off from the promise.
  • Not Synced
Instead, they would inherit through Abraham. Now we have Moses.
  • Not Synced
God gave him stone tablets with His laws written down:
  • Not Synced
The Israelites first needed to keep His laws.
  • Not Synced
Then God would make them His treasured possession.
  • Not Synced
A kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Let's look at Christ here.
  • Not Synced
With Noah: “In Christ, we are now saved from the waters (symbolizing baptism).
  • Not Synced
We leave behind the old life and embrace hope for eternal life.
  • Not Synced
The ark is like Christ, in whom we are now saved. We put off that old life.
  • Not Synced
We are saved through the water. Now, we have hope and eternal life.
  • Not Synced
Abraham and the circumcision: In Christ, we have circumcision of the heart.
  • Not Synced
We will inherit as children of Abraham. Moses and the stone tablets: In Christ:
  • Not Synced
God has written His laws on our hearts. We can become God's treasured possession.
  • Not Synced
A kingdom of priests and a holy nation. This is so beautiful.
  • Not Synced
Each covenant adds another part to the picture of what we have in Christ.
  • Not Synced
Now, I’ll talk about some things in the New Testament.
  • Not Synced
After that, we’ll return to the Old Testament. Hebrews 9: “But when Christ came
  • Not Synced
as high priest of the good things that are now already here,
  • Not Synced
he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle”
  • Not Synced
Christ came as high priest and went
through a greater, more perfect tabernacle
  • Not Synced
“that is not made with human hands, that
is to say, is not a part of this creation.
  • Not Synced
    He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves;
  • Not Synced
but he entered into the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood,
  • Not Synced
thus obtaining eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes…”
  • Not Synced
could only clean people on the outside. All the things we have read about:
  • Not Synced
Moses, the tabernacle, the priestly garments, the high priest and the Sabbath.
  • Not Synced
These are all pictures and shadows of a new reality that is in Christ.
  • Not Synced
He who went through the real tabernacle
in heaven. We read here: “How much more,
  • Not Synced
then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself
  • Not Synced
unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,
  • Not Synced
so that we may serve the living God!”
  • Not Synced
Offerings of goats and calves and their blood could not cleanse the conscience.
  • Not Synced
But Christ did. It's not an external thing. It's an internal thing, that is deep:
  • Not Synced
“For this reason, Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are
  • Not Synced
called may receive the promised eternal inheritance - now that he has died as
  • Not Synced
a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”
  • Not Synced
I’ll go on to explain this. “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant,
  • Not Synced
then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession…
  • Not Synced
you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”
  • Not Synced
That was God’s command. Did the Israelites fully obey God?
  • Not Synced
No. Did they break His laws? Yes. Have you fully obeyed God? No.
  • Not Synced
Have you broken His laws? Yes.
  • Not Synced
That means that if it depended on you, you wouldn’t become treasured possession.
  • Not Synced
Nor a kingdom of priests. Nor a holy nation. You didn’t keep the conditions.
  • Not Synced
But Christ did. In Him, we’re forgiven. In Him, we’re grafted in.
  • Not Synced
In Him, we’re free. In Him, this belongs to us.
  • Not Synced
What did Peter say to the church of Jewish and Gentile believers?
  • Not Synced
The same is true of born-again Jewish and Gentile believers today:
  • Not Synced
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
  • Not Synced
God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you
  • Not Synced
out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people,
  • Not Synced
but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy,
  • Not Synced
but now you have received mercy.” When you understand this, it’s really beautiful.
  • Not Synced
The law could not do this. We all failed. We’ve all broken the law.
  • Not Synced
But Christ kept it. In him, we become what God said. In Christ:
  • Not Synced
We’re God's chosen people, a royal priesthood, and a holy nation.
  • Not Synced
    We’re God's special possession. I want to
say this: God hasn’t forgotten the Jews.
  • Not Synced
I’ll talk about the Jews, shortly. The promise is still for them.
  • Not Synced
But this is our reality now, in Christ.
  • Not Synced
But not everyone in a church building, is part of the church.
  • Not Synced
Not everyone who professes a faith in God, is a child of God.
  • Not Synced
Not everyone who confesses Jesus, actually
obeys Jesus. This is really important.
  • Not Synced
The promise is real. But to receive it, you need to be fully born again.
  • Not Synced
You need to live this new life. You need to be in Christ.
  • Not Synced
Then, this will be your reality. Let's continue reading Hebrews:
  • Not Synced
“It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things
  • Not Synced
to be purified with these sacrifices”
  • Not Synced
What were the tabernacle in the wilderness, the sacrifices and the offerings?
  • Not Synced
They were copies of the heavenly things.
  • Not Synced
“For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands”
  • Not Synced
So, he wasn’t like the other priests. That earthly sanctuary was a copy, a picture.
  • Not Synced
It was different. “that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself”
  • Not Synced
We need to understand this. Let’s continue reading. Hebrews is an amazing book.
  • Not Synced
The author wrote about offerings. Then it’s written:
  • Not Synced
“Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
  • Not Synced
    so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many;
  • Not Synced
and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation
  • Not Synced
to those who are waiting for him.” Remember this:
  • Not Synced
At the time of Moses, the tabernacle was temporary.
  • Not Synced
It was a copy of the real heavenly one. Like everything else, it points to Christ.
  • Not Synced
This will get clearer as we continue. Now, we'll return to the events in Exodus.
  • Not Synced
Moses came down the mountain. The Israelites had made a golden calf.
  • Not Synced
We read about the events beforehand: “When the people saw that Moses was so long
  • Not Synced
in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said,
  • Not Synced
“Come make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us
  • Not Synced
up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.””
  • Not Synced
Then they took the gold rings off that their wives, sons, and daughters wore.
  • Not Synced
They brought them to Aaron. “He took what they handed him and made it
  • Not Synced
into an idol cast in the shape of a calf. He shaped it with a tool. Then they said,
  • Not Synced
“This, Israel, is your god who brought you out of the land of Egypt.””
  • Not Synced
Try to imagine the situation. God had brought them out.
  • Not Synced
Now they’d made a golden calf that had no connection with Yahweh.
  • Not Synced
The LORD had brought them out. They said of the golden calf:
  • Not Synced
This is Yahweh who brought us out. They called it by His name:
  • Not Synced
“Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD.” to Yahweh.
  • Not Synced
They worshipped Him, in the form of a golden calf.
  • Not Synced
“So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings…
  • Not Synced
Then the people sat down to eat and drink, and then they got up to play.”
  • Not Synced
People do this today. We call an idol using God’s name. But He's not the same.
  • Not Synced
It's scary. I could take ten Christians in a line and ask them to say who God is.
  • Not Synced
In some cases, they’ll have weird ideas. They are not serving the same god.
  • Not Synced
Not the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
  • Not Synced
Not the God who brought the people out of Egypt.
  • Not Synced
They’ve made an image of a god in their minds, that suits them:
  • Not Synced
“Oh, no, my God isn’t like that. He’s like this” “Then the LORD said to Moses,
  • Not Synced
“Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt,
  • Not Synced
have become corrupt. They have been quick to turn away from what
  • Not Synced
I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf.
  • Not Synced
They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said,
  • Not Synced
“This, Israel, is your god who brought you out of the land of Egypt.””
  • Not Synced
So, God sees everything. He saw exactly what they were doing.
  • Not Synced
“I have seen these people,” the LORD said to Moses.
  • Not Synced
“and they are a stiff-necked people.” Notice what He said here:
  • Not Synced
“Now leave me alone so that my anger may
burn against them that I may destroy them.
  • Not Synced
Then I will make you into a great nation.”
  • Not Synced
When this happened, God wanted to destroy Israel, those he saved out of Egypt.
  • Not Synced
They’d slaughtered the Passover lambs. He’d passed over their houses.
  • Not Synced
They’d went through the Red Sea. A few weeks later, He was ready to destroy them.
  • Not Synced
But He wouldn’t destroy all of them. Why? Because He’d made a promise to Abraham.
  • Not Synced
He'll keep that – to make Abraham into a great nation.
  • Not Synced
But whom will He keep the promise with? He wanted to destroy the Israelites.
  • Not Synced
Then He said, “I will make you, Moses, into a great nation.”
  • Not Synced
It’s important to understand this: God gave a promise to Abraham. He'll keep it.
  • Not Synced
God is a promise keeper. But with whom? With Abraham’s descendants.
  • Not Synced
But not every descendant of Abraham is a child of Abraham, in that sense.
  • Not Synced
Here, He was ready to destroy everyone and then keep His promise with Moses.
  • Not Synced
God is faithful and will do everything He has said. But the question is:
  • Not Synced
Are you part of that or not? Are we part of what God wants to do?
  • Not Synced
God will do what He’s promised to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and Jesus.
  • Not Synced
But the question is, are we a part of that? Let's learn from this.
  • Not Synced
Let’s have a healthy fear of God in our lives, so we won't be cut off.
  • Not Synced
Many Israelites were cut off when these events happened. Moses interceded:
  • Not Synced
“But Moses sought the favour of the LORD his God. “LORD,” he said,
  • Not Synced
“why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt
  • Not Synced
with great power and a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say,
  • Not Synced
“It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains
  • Not Synced
and to wipe them off the face of the earth”? Turn from your fierce anger; relent
  • Not Synced
and do not bring disaster on your people.”
    Moses interceded “Remember your servants
  • Not Synced
Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self:
  • Not Synced
“I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give
  • Not Synced
your descendants all this land I promised them… Then the Lord relented
  • Not Synced
and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.”
  • Not Synced
Reading how Moses interceded, reminds us of something:
  • Not Synced
Wickedness was all over the earth but Noah found favour.
  • Not Synced
God wanted to destroy the Israelites but Moses interceded.
  • Not Synced
The whole world will be destroyed, but Christ can save us from that.
  • Not Synced
This is a picture of Christ, who stood in the gap for us. It's really beautiful.
  • Not Synced
Moses intercedes and later went down from the mountain:
  • Not Synced
“When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned,
  • Not Synced
and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them into pieces…”
  • Not Synced
He also destroyed the golden calf. Joshua was also there. We read:
  • Not Synced
“that day about three thousand of the people died.” This is interesting.
  • Not Synced
What is the clear message here?
  • Not Synced
As soon as the Old Covenant law was given, 3,000 people died.
  • Not Synced
As soon as the New Covenant Spirit was given, 3,000 received new life.
  • Not Synced
This is all connected. This all points to Christ. Exodus 32:
  • Not Synced
“The next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin.””
  • Not Synced
By this time, around 3,000 people had been killed. Moses said to the rest:
  • Not Synced
    “You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the LORD;
  • Not Synced
perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”
  • Not Synced
So Moses went back to the LORD and said, “Oh, what a great sin
  • Not Synced
these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold.
  • Not Synced
But now, please forgive their sin”
  • Not Synced
Then Moses interceded in an amazing and beautiful way: “but if not,
  • Not Synced
then blot me out of the book you have written.” Moses really stood in the gap.
  • Not Synced
He said, “Either forgive them or blot me out of the book.” What a man! “The LORD
  • Not Synced
replied to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book.””
  • Not Synced
Now, we read about the book of life.
  • Not Synced
Books will be opened at the great judgment, at the great judgment seat:
  • Not Synced
At the end of Revelation. I’ll talk about these books later in this series.
  • Not Synced
It's possible to be blotted out of the book of life. People say today:
  • Not Synced
“If your name is written in the book of life, everything is fine.”
  • Not Synced
That’s true if your name is there and remains there. But what is very clear here?
  • Not Synced
That a person can be blotted out of God's book. Then God said to Moses: “Now go,
  • Not Synced
lead the people to the place I spoke of, and my angel will go before you.
  • Not Synced
However, when the time comes for me to punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
  • Not Synced
So about 3,000 people died right away. In
    Lesson 3 (‘Called-out’), I explained this:
  • Not Synced
The sinful generation didn’t enter the promised land, but later punished.
  • Not Synced
It's a very clear picture of our salvation journey. Someone commented on Lesson 3
  • Not Synced
(‘Called-out’): “Yeah, but you can’t use the example of the promised land.
  • Not Synced
There were giants in the promised land.” Yeah, we can use that example.
  • Not Synced
What will happen when Jesus sets up God’s kingdom on earth?
  • Not Synced
He will need to deal with some things at the beginning. We’ll take the land.
  • Not Synced
People will submit under Jesus’ Lordship and rule. All will bow down at His feet.
  • Not Synced
But there’ll be a time of judgment. The righteousness will bring peace on earth.
  • Not Synced
It'll be cleaned up. It won’t just happen, from one day to another.
  • Not Synced
Those of us who are there, will receive heavenly bodies and rule with him.
  • Not Synced
There’ll be a time of cleaning up. Giants
in the land is a really good picture.
  • Not Synced
Other good pictures are possessing, taking and subduing the land.
  • Not Synced
I’ll talk about the promised land in a later lesson.
  • Not Synced
But the Israelites didn’t enter in, because of disobedience. God is very serious.
  • Not Synced
Sometimes, judgment come right away and sometimes it’s delayed.
  • Not Synced
This should really create a fear of God in our lives, a healthy fear of God.
  • Not Synced
After this God called Moses up the mountain again. “The LORD said to Moses,
  • Not Synced
“Cut out for yourself two stone tablets like the first ones, and I’ll write on
  • Not Synced
the tablets the words which were on the first tablets which you broke.””
  • Not Synced
So there were two sets of tablets. The first set of tablets were destroyed.
  • Not Synced
Then God called Moses up again and said, “Cut out two new tablets.
  • Not Synced
I will write the same on them.” This is very interesting.
  • Not Synced
God wrote on the first tablets. Later, Moses made new ones. God wrote on those.
  • Not Synced
This points forward to God writing His law on new tablets.
  • Not Synced
He is writing His law on our hearts, not with written code on stone tablets.
  • Not Synced
He is writing on our hearts by His Spirit. This is all about the gospel.
  • Not Synced
It points to Christ, to the time we are living in and to God’s kingdom.
  • Not Synced
Many years after Moses, Jeremiah prophesied this: “The days are coming,”
  • Not Synced
declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel
  • Not Synced
and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant”
  • Not Synced
So, it’s not just a continuation of the Mosaic covenant. It’s different:
  • Not Synced
“It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them
  • Not Synced
by the hand to lead them out of Egypt.” Why will it be different? “because
  • Not Synced
they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD.”
  • Not Synced
So, it’s a New Covenant. They broke the other one.
  • Not Synced
“This is the covenant I'll make with the people of Israel” With Israel the nation.
  • Not Synced
Now, we’re grafted in and have received it in Christ. I’ll talk about it later.
  • Not Synced
“After that time,” declares the LORD. “I'll put my law in their minds and write it”
  • Not Synced
on stone tablets? No, He’d already done that and it hadn’t worked.
  • Not Synced
The law, written externally, brought death. It didn't work.
  • Not Synced
You cannot obey a law as an external written code.
  • Not Synced
It's to be written on the heart. Or it won't work: “write it on their hearts.
  • Not Synced
I'll be their God, and they'll be my people. No longer will they teach
  • Not Synced
their neighbour, or say to one another, “Know the LORD””
  • Not Synced
We don’t need a human priest in order to have a relationship with God: "because
  • Not Synced
they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the LORD.
  • Not Synced
“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
  • Not Synced
Ezekiel prophesied similar things around the same time. He added some things:
  • Not Synced
“I will give them an undivided HEART and put a new spirit in them;”
  • Not Synced
So, we read about God writing the law on our hearts.
  • Not Synced
We read about an undivided heart and a new spirit.
  • Not Synced
“I will remove from them their heart of stone”
  • Not Synced
    - God won’t write His law on a heart of stone. He will remove that.
  • Not Synced
He'll then write on a new heart by the Spirit - “and give them a heart of flesh.”
  • Not Synced
This is not a license for us to sin: “Then they will follow my decrees and be
  • Not Synced
careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.”
  • Not Synced
God writes His laws on our hearts, so that we can obey Him.
  • Not Synced
Not so we can continue sinning. He did it, so we can be holy as our Father is holy.
  • Not Synced
Now you may kiss your bride.
  • Not Synced
Now you can enter into a covenant and be one flesh in a marriage.
  • Not Synced
You can’t do that if your heart is not transformed.
  • Not Synced
It has to come from your heart, not from an external law: “You may not….”
  • Not Synced
No, we need a changed heart. We’ll look at that later.
  • Not Synced
I have some more slides here before we shortly have a break.
  • Not Synced
I want to talk more here about Israel as a nation.
  • Not Synced
The fact is, the law of Moses was never actually given to Gentiles.
  • Not Synced
It was given to Israel as a nation. These are not laws for me.
  • Not Synced
They were for Israel as a nation. But in Christ, I am grafted into the promise.
  • Not Synced
I am not part of the physical nation of Israel.
  • Not Synced
But I have been grafted into the promise in a spiritual sense.
  • Not Synced
I talked about in previous lessons. So now, we’re a holy people. We’re called out.
  • Not Synced
We’re God's possession. But that doesn’t mean that God has rejected Israel.
  • Not Synced
I want to talk about that before we continue. Romans 11:25-29 is very important.
  • Not Synced
Paul writes: “Brothers and sisters, here is a mystery I want you to understand.
  • Not Synced
It'll keep you from being proud.” But many people have rejected the Jews.
  • Not Synced
They’re very proud: “We’re now the people of God. I am a holy nation.”
  • Not Synced
But it's only because of Christ that you are. So please don't be proud.
  • Not Synced
Remember this: “Part of Israel” not all of
Israel. There are people who love Jesus.
  • Not Synced
They are born again and follow the Messiah Jesus.
  • Not Synced
“Part of Israel has refused to obey God.” We see this today.
  • Not Synced
“That will continue until the full number of non-Jews has entered God's kingdom.”
  • Not Synced
So, at the moment they still reject God as a whole.
  • Not Synced
This will continue until we as Gentiles have come in.
  • Not Synced
This will create jealousy and so on. “And so all Israel will be saved.”
  • Not Synced
There’s a hardness right now. But there’ll be a time when all Israel will be saved.
  • Not Synced
“It is written, “The One who saves will come from Mount Zion.
  • Not Synced
He will remove sin from Jacob.” God has said that. He’ll do it.
  • Not Synced
“Here is my covenant with them. I will take away their sins.”
  • Not Synced
So, this covenant has been given to the Jews. This is for our good:
  • Not Synced
“As far as the gospel is concerned, the people of Israel are enemies.”
  • Not Synced
So many of the Jews are enemies. They're not in the New Covenant.
  • Not Synced
God’s laws are not yet written on their hearts.
  • Not Synced
They haven’t received the spirit, nor are obeying God's laws as a whole. What is that?
  • Not Synced
They’re enemies according to the gospel. “But as far as God's choice is concerned,
  • Not Synced
the people of Israel are loved.” They’re still called.
  • Not Synced
“That is because of God's promises to the founders of our nation.
  • Not Synced
God does not take back his gifts.
  • Not Synced
He does not change his mind about those he has chosen.”
  • Not Synced
So, the nation of Israel is still chosen and called.
  • Not Synced
God’ll establish a new covenant with them, in their hearts.
  • Not Synced
But right now, this belongs to us. Each one of us can receive it.
  • Not Synced
A new covenant where the law is written on the heart. I will be their God.
  • Not Synced
They'll be my people. Then they'll follow
my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
  • Not Synced
All will know me and I will remember their sins no more.
  • Not Synced
We’re talking here about following God’s law.
  • Not Synced
So, should we go back and do everything God spoke to Israel as a nation? No.
  • Not Synced
That law was given to Israel as a nation. I'm not a Jew and never have been.
  • Not Synced
I'm a Gentile. But I'm following Christ and His word.
  • Not Synced
We need to understand that there is a change in the law. Hebrews 7:
  • Not Synced
We read here that Jesus is in the priestly order of Melchizedek.
  • Not Synced
There is a change in the priesthood. Please read it yourself.
  • Not Synced
“For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also.”
  • Not Synced
Because of this change, we’re not bound to the written code given to Moses.
  • Not Synced
Instead, we’re bound to the law of Christ.
The law of God's written on our hearts.
  • Not Synced
Let’s read a few verses from Romans. There’ll be a break shortly.
  • Not Synced
“A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely
  • Not Synced
outward and physical. No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision
  • Not Synced
is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code.”
  • Not Synced
That was the Pharisees’ problem. Jesus said this to them: “Woe to you,
  • Not Synced
teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of
  • Not Synced
the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
  • Not Synced
Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish,
  • Not Synced
and then the outside also will be clean.” Our hearts need to be transformed.
  • Not Synced
The law is not written on books or tablets, but on the heart.
  • Not Synced
Of course, we have a physical Bible. God is speaking to us.
  • Not Synced
But we are loosed from the law of Moses.
  • Not Synced
I’ll talk more about that after the break and read more of Romans 6 and 7.
  • Not Synced
In Romans 7, we read: “But now, by dying to what once bound us (the law),
  • Not Synced
we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit,
  • Not Synced
and not in the old way of the written code.” We’ve been released from the law.
  • Not Synced
Now we can serve in a new way. The covenant with Moses was everlasting.
  • Not Synced
However, it has changed (in Christ). It's not written on stone tablets.
  • Not Synced
It’s being written on our hearts, not as a written code. The new way of the Spirit.
  • Not Synced
From law to grace. From death to life. I’ll talk more about that after the break.
  • Not Synced
It's extremely important. I believe that this will set you free.
  • Not Synced
You’ll understand that you don't need to be under the law anymore.
  • Not Synced
You can be under grace. You can walk in freedom and listen to the Spirit in you.
  • Not Synced
So let's take a break here [Music] We’re back again. This’ll be very interesting.
  • Not Synced
I hope you're ready for this. We’ll continue in Romans. We see the cross here.
  • Not Synced
I already talked about it in Romans 6. But we’ll read it again.
  • Not Synced
Bear in mind the law given with Moses: “Don’t touch this. Don’t eat that food etc.”
  • Not Synced
Romans 6: “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus
  • Not Synced
were baptized into his death?” So, a death takes place when we are baptized.
  • Not Synced
We’re baptized into Christ’s death. Death is important. Bear that in mind.
  • Not Synced
“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that,
  • Not Synced
just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father,
  • Not Synced
we too may live a new life.” We’re baptized into His death. That’s important. Why?
  • Not Synced
Because we’re only bound to a law, as long as you live.
  • Not Synced
But when we die, we’re loosed from that law. Romans 6 and 7 focus on that.
  • Not Synced
“Because anyone who had died has been set free from sin.”
  • Not Synced
But this is not only about sin. The law is connected with sin.
  • Not Synced
Here’s something important. Romans 7: “Do you not know, brothers and sisters
  • Not Synced
    - for I am speaking to those who know the law - that the law has authority
  • Not Synced
over someone only as long as that person lives? For example, by law a married woman
  • Not Synced
is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is
  • Not Synced
released from the law that binds her to him.” Why does Paul write about this?
  • Not Synced
Romans 6 - 8 is about the new life and freedom from the law of sin and death.
  • Not Synced
Paul not only teaches about marriage and divorce, but also about the law.
  • Not Synced
It’s an example to show this: We’re bound to the law as long as we live.
  • Not Synced
But we can read beforehand that we're baptized into Christ, into His death.
  • Not Synced
The baptism is a death. The law was never given to me as a Gentile.
  • Not Synced
I'm not physically part of Israel. I was without hope in this world.
  • Not Synced
I was lost without hope and without God. But the law is also spiritual.
  • Not Synced
In that sense, it’s working in everyone.
  • Not Synced
When we start to sin, you become a slave to that sin.
  • Not Synced
The law is at work in a way we don’t realise.
  • Not Synced
To take an example, imagine that you’re going to stay at someone’s house.
  • Not Synced
The person says, “Hey, you can stay at my house. Here's the kitchen.
  • Not Synced
Just take some breakfast in the morning. Here are all the things you can take.
  • Not Synced
You can eat anything you want. But you’re not allowed to open this closet.
  • Not Synced
It’s very important that you don’t open it.”
  • Not Synced
If someone tells you not to do something, what happens?
  • Not Synced
You’ll think, “Why can’t I open that closet?”
  • Not Synced
When we’re told not to do something, something happens inside us.
  • Not Synced
For example, imagine a man going to a Walmart.
  • Not Synced
Before he goes in, he repeats to himself, “Don’t look with lust on a woman”.
  • Not Synced
What will happen? He’ll go in and continue thinking of that.
  • Not Synced
In the end, he’ll look at a woman. It doesn’t work. That law doesn't bring freedom.
  • Not Synced
But Christ brings freedom. If we’re bound to the law of sin and death, it works in us.
  • Not Synced
We’re bound to that law as long as we live. That's why we need to die.
  • Not Synced
Read Romans 6 about dying to the law. We’re dead to the law.
  • Not Synced
We're not under the law. We are freed or loosed from the law. We read here:
  • Not Synced
“For sin shall no longer be your master” Sin won’t have authority over us.
  • Not Synced
Why not? Because the law only has authority over a person as long as he lives.
  • Not Synced
But in baptism, we die. It's no longer we who live, but Christ.
  • Not Synced
So the law of sin and death has no authority over me.
  • Not Synced
“For sin shall no longer be your master” Why not?
  • Not Synced
“because you are not under the law” You’re dead to the law “but under grace”
  • Not Synced
So, the law came with Moses. Grace and truth came with Christ.
  • Not Synced
Many people try to follow Christ by trying to keep the law of Moses.
  • Not Synced
They don’t realise that they’ve been loosed from that law.
  • Not Synced
That's when they were baptized into Christ. They entered into a new covenant.
  • Not Synced
It’s not about the written code written on stones, what's written on your heart.
  • Not Synced
That’s where true freedom is. Let’s continue: Under the law, sin was our master.
  • Not Synced
Under grace, you're baptized into Christ. You’re dead to the law and alive in Christ.
  • Not Synced
You’re free from the law and the sin that once kept you enslaved.
  • Not Synced
If you’re a slave to sin, you’re still not under grace.
  • Not Synced
Remember that true grace is not a cover up for sin.
  • Not Synced
True Grace empowers us to live a new life, free from sin.
  • Not Synced
You can still be a Christian and have your mind set on Egypt.
  • Not Synced
That’s because you’ve never really left.
  • Not Synced
It's time to leave and live a new life by the Spirit.
  • Not Synced
I’m saying here that many Christians are still under the law.
  • Not Synced
They’re still trying to obey the law instead of living by the spirit.
  • Not Synced
They’re not living the new way of the spirit.
  • Not Synced
Their minds are still set on the old ways of Egypt. They’re never really left.
  • Not Synced
They haven’t experienced the freedom, where the law's truly written on their hearts.
  • Not Synced
The ministry we bring, should set people free.
  • Not Synced
Paul wrote about this ministry we’ve been given. 2 Corinthians 3:
  • Not Synced
“You show that you're a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry,
  • Not Synced
written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone
  • Not Synced
but on tablets of human hearts.” So our ministry's so different from the law of Moses.
  • Not Synced
That was the old covenant written on stones. Now, we have a new ministry.
  • Not Synced
A new way. God’s laws are written on the human heart by the spirit of the Living God.
  • Not Synced
Paul continues: “Now if the ministry that brought death”
  • Not Synced
What happened when the law of Moses was given? 3,000 died right away.
  • Not Synced
That ministry brought death “which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory,
  • Not Synced
so that the Israelites could not look
steadily at the face of Moses
  • Not Synced
because of its glory, transitory though it was, will not this ministry of the Spirit
  • Not Synced
be even more glorious?” Of course. “If
    the ministry that brought condemnation”
  • Not Synced
    bringing death and condemnation “was
glorious, how much more glorious is
  • Not Synced
    the ministry that brings righteousness!”
We have the ministry of the new covenant.
  • Not Synced
This doesn't bring condemnation. It can truly cleanse our conscience.
  • Not Synced
It can bring righteousness. Then we’re free, not to live in condemnation.
  • Not Synced
We’re free from the law, free to live by the spirit.
  • Not Synced
You need to receive this through the new birth, by faith.
  • Not Synced
I'm going to share a personal testimony and experience shortly:
  • Not Synced
“Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses,
  • Not Synced
who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end
  • Not Synced
of what was passing away.” So, the law of Moses was passing away.
  • Not Synced
Moses’ face was veiled, so the Israelites
wouldn’t see it. "But their minds were
  • Not Synced
made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read.”
  • Not Synced
Also today when people read about Moses and the old Covenant,
  • Not Synced
there’s a veil over their faces. So, they don’t understand it:
  • Not Synced
“It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.”
  • Not Synced
Many read the law in the Bible. They have
a blindness. They don’t understand it.
  • Not Synced
Only in Christ, is the blindness taken away. Some people have a fear.
  • Not Synced
They say: “We need law. If we don’t, people will live in sin.”
  • Not Synced
But what happened with the law? Did the law help people to live holy lives?
  • Not Synced
Did the Israelites live holy lives because they had the law? No.
  • Not Synced
But God gave a new spirit and wrote a new law in our hearts.
  • Not Synced
So, we’ll obey God's decree and follow His laws. How do we live that holy life?
  • Not Synced
Not by following Moses, but by following Christ by the spirit. Paul continues:
  • Not Synced
“But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
  • Not Synced
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
  • Not Synced
Freedom. You need to receive this by the Spirit. Here's some examples.
  • Not Synced
I heard the gospel for the first time from my friend Tommy.
  • Not Synced
I told him, he was brainwashed. I couldn't
see it. I said, he was brainwashed.
  • Not Synced
It was wrong. He was in a cult. He should be careful.
  • Not Synced
I thought that he was crazy and brainwashed.
  • Not Synced
I thought that I needed to help him and save him out of that cult. I didn't see it.
  • Not Synced
A few days later, I got born again. My eyes opened. The veil was taken away.
  • Not Synced
Then my father told me, “Torben, you’re brainwashed. It’s a cult.”
  • Not Synced
My father couldn’t see it. Why? Because he still had a a veil over his face.
  • Not Synced
He couldn’t see it. I told him, “Father, you’re saying what I said to Tommy.
  • Not Synced
But it's the truth. I see it now.” Before I was blinded, like my father was blinded.
  • Not Synced
But some years later, he repented. Then he saw it.
  • Not Synced
This happens when someone truly repents and is born again. Their eyes open.
  • Not Synced
However, my mind was still set on Egypt for the first years of my Christian life.
  • Not Synced
I did not understand that I had buried the old life in the baptism.
  • Not Synced
That I had died to the law of sin and death, and wasn’t bound to it anymore.
  • Not Synced
I was free from sin. I didn't need to be a slave anymore.
  • Not Synced
During the first six years of my Christian life, I was repenting.
  • Not Synced
The law was written on my heart. I had received a new spirit.
  • Not Synced
Many things in my life changed. But in some areas, I was not free.
  • Not Synced
I kept falling into the same sins. I felt, I was becoming a slave of sin again.
  • Not Synced
I was not free. Then one day I read Romans 6. I really understood it.
  • Not Synced
God revealed it to me by the Spirit: “Hey, I'm dead to the law! I'm free!
  • Not Synced
I don't need to sin anymore! The law is spiritual!”
  • Not Synced
So, this broke down something wrong inside me.
  • Not Synced
I realised, I wasn’t not under the law of sin and death anymore.
  • Not Synced
I'm free to follow Christ. This gave me a totally new freedom.
  • Not Synced
I've been free ever since for many years. It doesn't mean that I'm sinless.
  • Not Synced
We can still do wrong things. But then we feel convicted right away.
  • Not Synced
We ask God for forgiveness. He’s faithful to forgive us. Then we move on.
  • Not Synced
But I'm not bound. I don’t ask for forgiveness, and repeat the sin 2 weeks later.
  • Not Synced
I don’t feel like a slave to sin. No. I feel free. I'm not focused on the law.
  • Not Synced
I'm don’t do into a mall, tell myself repeatedly, “Don't look at woman” and fail.
  • Not Synced
I'm free to go into the mall. I focus on Christ. I don’t think like this:
  • Not Synced
“Don't touch! Don't watch! Don't do this or that!” I'm free to follow Christ.
  • Not Synced
You need a revelation so you can really experience that freedom.
  • Not Synced
Then you can love Jesus, walk by the spirit and occasionally do something wrong.
  • Not Synced
I don't have the ten commandments written in my phone or on a poster.
  • Not Synced
Why not? Because I'm not under the law. It's written in my heart.
  • Not Synced
I'm following Christ and obeying His words. I read His words.
  • Not Synced
But if I do, say or think something wrong, I feel it right away: “Oh, I know it.”
  • Not Synced
No one needs to teach me to know the Lord and to do different things. I know Him.
  • Not Synced
I feel it in my heart. Why? Because the law’s written on my heart. I get convicted.
  • Not Synced
From this perspective, the Christian life is actually really easy:
  • Not Synced
Don't follow the law of Moses. Listen to Christ and obey His word.
  • Not Synced
Listen to the Spirit, God has given you. Follow the Holy Spirit.
  • Not Synced
If Holy Spirit says, “Don't say that. Don't look at that. Don’t look at this.
  • Not Synced
Don’t look at that” then stop doing it. Listen to the Spirit.
  • Not Synced
Let the Spirit guide you through the wilderness toward the promised land.
  • Not Synced
Let the Holy Spirit guide you. God speaks to us about different things.
  • Not Synced
We really need to follow God and live in that freedom. 1 Corinthians:
  • Not Synced
“He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant
  • Not Synced
    - not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
  • Not Synced
The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
  • Not Synced
What happened when the law was given on Mount Sinai? 3,000 were killed.
  • Not Synced
What happened when the Spirit was given on Pentecost in Jerusalem?
  • Not Synced
Three thousand received new life. The letter kills but the Spirit gives life.
  • Not Synced
We read that in Acts 2: “Those who accepted the message were baptized,
  • Not Synced
and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”
  • Not Synced
When did that happen? On Pentecost, Shavuot, the Feast of Weeks.
  • Not Synced
At that time, Israelites from all over Israel came to Jerusalem to celebrate what?
  • Not Synced
The giving of the law. It happened on that day, not a week or month before.
  • Not Synced
So, when we read about Moses and the law, we read about temporary things.
  • Not Synced
These are just pictures that point to Christ and the New Covenant.
  • Not Synced
Today, we are under the New Covenant.
  • Not Synced
Sadly, many people today are more interested in following the law than the Spirit.
  • Not Synced
They don't have the Spirit. So, they follow the law. You need to be born again.
  • Not Synced
You need the Holy Spirit. It must come from your heart. Walking by the Spirit.
  • Not Synced
Live a life with a clean conscience.
  • Not Synced
If you step out of God's plan, you’ll feel it in your heart.
  • Not Synced
Then you must return to the narrow road.
  • Not Synced
But if you stop listening to the Spirit and go into the law, you’ll become bound.
  • Not Synced
You’ll walk away from Christ and the road that leads to righteousness.
  • Not Synced
I've seen so many people start in the spirit but end in the flesh, under the law.
  • Not Synced
We are loosed from the law. I don't keep the Sabbath. People tell me,
  • Not Synced
“You need to keep the Sabbath.” They only read some of the verses.
  • Not Synced
What did God say? Keep the Sabbath. Have one day of rest per week.
  • Not Synced
No, he also told them to work six days.
  • Not Synced
But most people I know who are eager to keep Sabbath, don’t work six days.
  • Not Synced
They work five days. Why do they do that? How can people say,
  • Not Synced
“Oh, we keep the Sabbath. This is our Sabbath” if they only work five days?
  • Not Synced
God didn’t say that. He told them to work six days and take one day off.
  • Not Synced
This law was never given to Gentile. It was given to the Israelites.
  • Not Synced
This doesn’t mean, I can’t learn from it. It is important. I do some things.
  • Not Synced
Sometimes the Holy Spirit tells me to rest one day. I have a day that I take off.
  • Not Synced
I don't work seven days and then start a new week of seven days. We need rest.
  • Not Synced
But this is not because of the Mosaic law. It’s not an obligation or a law.
  • Not Synced
It’s nothing to do with righteousness.
  • Not Synced
It just shows us that God want us also to rest and take time with him.
  • Not Synced
Don't be too busy. We need to understand this rightly.
  • Not Synced
But some people are so fixed on keeping the Mosaic law.
  • Not Synced
But the Sabbath law said that people shouldn’t light a fire on that day.
  • Not Synced
Do you do that? At that time, they lit fires using wood.
  • Not Synced
Do you turn on the oven on the Sabbath?
  • Not Synced
If you start going down that road, you’ll suddenly become bound.
  • Not Synced
If you keep a little of the law, you’re obligated to keep it all.
  • Not Synced
Christ kept it for us, to set us free from the law: Not that we could live in sin.
  • Not Synced
It was so we could walk by the Spirit in freedom. Listen to this. Romans 2:
  • Not Synced
“All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law,
  • Not Synced
and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.”
  • Not Synced
So, if we sin apart from the law we’ll perish apart from the law.
  • Not Synced
If we sin under the law, we’ll be judged by the law.
  • Not Synced
This refers to Jews and Gentiles.
  • Not Synced
“For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight,
  • Not Synced
but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
  • Not Synced
(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law” as the law wasn’t given to us
  • Not Synced
“do by nature the things required by the law, they are a law for themselves,
  • Not Synced
even though they do not have the law.)
  • Not Synced
They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts”
  • Not Synced
How do we obey the law?
  • Not Synced
Love God with all your heart and love your
neighbour as yourself. What is the law?
  • Not Synced
What is the heart of the law? “written on their hearts,
  • Not Synced
their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes
  • Not Synced
accusing them and at other times even defending them.”
  • Not Synced
This is extremely important. Gentiles are not under the law.
  • Not Synced
It was never given to them.
  • Not Synced
We’ll still be judged even if we’re not under the law - if we live in sin.
  • Not Synced
But those Gentiles who are born again, have the Christ's law written on the heart.
  • Not Synced
They have a conscience. The conscience bears witness.
  • Not Synced
Sometimes our thoughts accuse us and other times they defend us.
  • Not Synced
I'm free. I'm free to eat things. I don’t think about the Sabbath.
  • Not Synced
When I was born again, the law was written on my heart.
  • Not Synced
I have never felt when I make food on a Sabbath (or a Saturday): “I can’t do this.”
  • Not Synced
I’ve never felt that I can’t do a kickstart or training on that day.
  • Not Synced
I’ve never felt condemned in that area. It's not written on my heart. It’s the same with head coverings. We need to understand the context. I’ll talk about that later. I've never met anyone who had just received the Holy Spirit and God’s love, who then said: “The Holy Spirit shows me that I need to cover my head. I can’t work on the Sabbath. I have to do this. I can’t play cards. I have to wear a long dress.” I never met someone who said that that is written on their heart. But then people read the law and get confused: “Oh no! I need to do this and that.”

Condemnation comes. Then they try to keep the law. This leads them away from the pure and narrow road in Christ. They try to do this, not to do that, not to eat that and all the rest. But I have been convicted in my heart many times when I said, did or looked at something wrong. For example, after I got born again, I slept with my girlfriend. I felt so condemned: What have I done? Red light, red light, sin, sin, sin! I knew it was sin. I did not need to read it in the Bible. I hadn’t read that yet, but it was written on my heart.

This happens with so many other things. For example, if I say something wrong or reply in anger, I feel condemned. It happened once when I was in jail. You can read my book, if you haven’t already. There was a nasty guard in jail, who was not nice. They came in and checked us, when we were sitting in there. They scanned our card for their records. For a long time, we’d been allowed to leave some food to eat later.

But he suddenly changed all the rules and they took all our food away. He was nasty. I remember sitting there in my cell. He opened my cell and came in. He wanted to scan my card. He had just taken some food away or something like that. I felt irritated. He said, “Give me your card” [Showing irritation] “Here” He said, “Don't be so nasty.” I just took the card out of his hand. I was just irritated. Then he moved on. As soon as I reacted like that, I felt that it was wrong of me. I asked God to forgive me for reacting like that.

I have many examples like that. It’s because of my conscience. But other times, I stand up, preach and do things. Then my conscience bears witness that all is good. But other times, I feel that I shouldn’t have done something. I've seen that happening with other people. When anyone is at the start of their new life, they have a clean conscience. The Holy Spirit teaches, helps and purifies them.

But then I see them suddenly turning away from that, going under the law. They start trying to keep the rules and guidelines, and get confused. That doesn’t lead to holiness. Suddenly they feel condemned, whereas before they did not: “Oh, I cannot drive. I cannot wear a dress. I have to cover my head. I cannot do this or that.”

They start to feel condemned all the time. Why? Because they're going back under the law, instead of knowing that they are in a New Covenant. They are free from the law. I want to do a Q&A video very soon. I know that many people are asking questions about this topic. Please come with your questions. I'll do a Q&A video. Lesson 6 will be about Hagar and Sarah. I’ll talk much more about the spirit, the flesh, the law, grace and freedom etc. I’ll go over all of this, because it’s new for many of you.

You’re saying, “Torben, what are you saying? Are you saying that we don't need to obey the law of Moses?” Yes, I am. “Are you saying that we’re just free to live the way we want to?” No, I'm not. You're free to walk by the spirit. You’re free to listen to your conscience. Keep your conscience clean, above all things. If your conscience starts to condemn you, do something about it. But don’t do it in your own strength. Ask God to give you a revelation of who you are in Christ. Listen to these verses in 1 John.

This lesson is almost finished. But this is important: “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him” That is our hope. We’re invited to a wedding. We, the bride, need to purify ourselves “purify themselves, just as he is pure. Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins.

And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning.” That is the secret. Live in Christ. “No one who lives in him keeps on sinning.” This doesn’t mean that we can never sin. But we are not to keep on sinning. That’s not how we live. “No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.” Many people who sit in church buildings, don’t really know Him - they keep on sinning.

“Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous” It's not so much about what we believe, but what we do “just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them;” God’s law is written on our hearts.

His seed is the Spirit we’ve now received, the word of God. “they cannot go on sinning because they have been born of God.” It's not about praying the sinner's prayer. It's about the new birth. “This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are:” The way we live. “Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.”

So, let’s close this lesson. What do we need to do? Repent and be baptized, and receive the Holy Spirit. Then: Know that you are free from the law of sin and death. Pray. Ask God to reveal this truth to you. You need to live it by faith. It’s a revelation. I am free. Yes. I don't need to sin anymore. You are dead to the law. You are free. Know that you are free from the law of sin and death that once bound and enslaved you.

Believe it. Understand that Christ has set you free. Now walk by the Spirit in a new life. Paul wrote so clearly about the law: “Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.” Now, he wrote something interesting here: “To the Jews, I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law, I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law)” Paul wrote that he became like them when he was with them. He became like them to win them. But he wasn’t under the law. Me, neither. I'm not under the law. I'm free from the law.

You're free from the law. We are free from the law. Why? Because we’re dead to the law. The law bound us as long we lived. But it's no longer I who live, it’s Christ who lives. I'm dead to the law. What does that mean, to not be under the law? Are we without law? No. Paul continues: “To those not having the law, I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ’s law)” Paul wrote in one place that he wasn’t under the law. In another place, he said he wasn’t free from God's law, but under Christ’s law. What does that mean? We're not under the law of sin and death, that Moses brought.

But we’re under the law of Christ. What is that? That is to listen to Him and His word. Law is not only written commandments written in the Bible. It is what Jesus said. Read what Jesus said. Did he say, “If you love me, keep what Moses said.” No, He didn’t say that. He said “If you love me, keep my commands…” Some people are very eager to keep the Mosaic law, including the feasts, the food laws, the Sabbath and the dress. But they are not eager to keep Jesus’ law: Love your neighbour as yourself.

Go out and make disciples. Preach the gospel. Obey Christ. “If you love me, keep my commands.” Jesus said. I need to finish the lesson here: “So the law” with Moses “was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.” We're now in faith “So in Christ Jesus, you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” We can say it like this: You are baptized into Christ’s death.

Therefore, you're no longer bound to the law. You don't need a guardian anymore. You are now in Christ. “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free… If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed”. So, I’ll finish the lesson now. Old Covenant (Moses): Until Christ. Law on stone tablets. Written code. Brought death. Could not obey the old way. God rejected the whole generation. Did not inherit the Promised Land but Joshua brought the next generation in. Joshua’s and Jesus’ names are directly related.

Moses could not bring them into the promised land but Joshua did. The law cannot bring you into the kingdom of God but Jesus can. The law is good if we use it the right way, to reveal sin so we can come to Christ. But in baptism, we die to the law. New Covenant (Jesus): Everlasting covenant. Law is written on hearts of flesh. New way by the Spirit. Brought life. Can now obey in the new way. We’ll one day enter into the Promised Land if we are victorious and continue in Christ. Jesus fulfilled the law’s requirements. We are now: God's treasured possession. A kingdom of priests. A holy nation.

But it's not complete yet. We will be those things one day when he comes. Then we’ll rule with Him here on earth. A few more verses: “Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus… because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set us free from the law and sin and death.” When you’re in Christ, you are under the law of the spirit written on your heart.

You’re set free from the law of sin and death. “For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” So, get born again. Live by the spirit. Listen to the Holy Spirit.

When your heart condemns you, repent. Don't try to live by the law of Moses and go under the law. That’ll bring condemnation and death. Live in the New Covenant, by the Spirit. Obey Jesus. If you love Him, keep His commands and you will live. I’ll pray for you. God, I thank You for everyone who’s seen this. I pray that this will bring freedom to them. Freedom from the law. Freedom to live a holy life as You are holy.

Freedom to live by the Spirit. I pray that everyone will understand this: When we are baptized, Jesus, we are baptized into Your death. It's no longer I who live, but it's You who lives. A woman is only bound to the law, as long as that person is alive. But when we die, we’re loosed from that law and free to be married to somebody else. Christ Jesus is our bridegroom. Help us to purify ourselves. Purify us by the Spirit. Help us to walk by the Spirit, without condemnation.

Then, one day, Jesus, we’ll inherit this earth together with You. Thank You for what You're doing. I pray that it will bring freedom to people. Come and speak to people out there through this. In the name of Jesus, Amen. See you next time. Come with your questions. I'll do a Q&A video soon where I will answer some of them. God bless you. Let's live the new life by the Spirit that God has for all of us. Bye bye.
