Never seen something like this before. I can only assume the butterfly is rubbing the wings against each other to create friction heat. Or maybe to create mechanical resistance in order to give itself a better workout after hibernation especially if warm sunlight is not available.
I'm also surprised that this creates a sound - and such a loud one!
