Nora on belonging

One big change for me after teaching

was realising: I can do it.

That was a big change for me.

I feel more confident,

knowing that I'm there.

I used to think I wasn't,

but I am.

I still have a long way to go, of course

but I'm on the right path.

I feel that...

I can belong in academic spaces.

That's not a given for everyone.

I was teaching the basics

and I used to think I'd only just learned

but I realised I learned them a long time ago.

I've come far

I know what I know

if that makes sense.

It's easy to just go about everyday life

and focus on all the things you don't know yet.

But sometimes you need to look back

on the knowledge you already have –

That helped me a lot.
