  • 0:06 - 0:07
    Hello.
  • 0:07 - 0:09
    Hello. I’m Mitchell.
  • 0:10 - 0:11
    I’m James.
  • 0:12 - 0:14
What are we here to talk about, James?
  • 0:14 - 0:20
We’re going to talk about nutrition,
in relation to food and drink.
  • 0:20 - 0:23
Nutrition? Ok. Do you have more
    information on this for us?
  • 0:24 - 0:25
    Yes. Have a look…
  • 0:27 - 0:35
Nutrition is important. We all need a
balanced diet to keep well and healthy.
  • 0:35 - 0:44
Food and drink gives us energy; it helps
keep our brains and bodies working
  • 0:44 - 0:49
    together to get us through
    our everyday lives. See:
  • 0:49 - 0:56
This explains why is it important to
follow a routine with your food intake,
  • 0:56 - 1:02
    eating breakfast, lunch and
dinner at regular times, like this:
  • 1:02 - 1:10
Remember, it’s fine to have a healthy snack
between breakfast and lunch, so go for it.
  • 1:11 - 1:20
The World Health Organisation and the
UK government advise we should all eat
  • 1:20 - 1:29
5 portions of fruit or vegetables every day
to prevent or reduce our risk of developing
  • 1:29 - 1:37
future health problems such as heart
disease, stroke, and many other illnesses.
  • 1:40 - 1:46
So, for example, when you have dinner,
make sure your plate it half filled
  • 1:46 - 1:51
with vegetables like the ones being grown here:
  • 1:51 - 1:56
You can see on these plots here that lots
of fresh vegetables are being grown.
  • 1:56 - 2:03
So, half your plate should be vegetables,
then on the other side a portion of meat
  • 2:03 - 2:10
or fish or some other form of
    protein, maybe a vegetable burger.
  • 2:10 - 2:18
On the final quarter of your plate, you
should have some potatoes or rice, like this:
  • 2:31 - 2:37
It’s also important to keep a
good balance in what you drink too.
  • 2:37 - 2:44
    Health professionals recommend you
should drink around 2 litres of water a day.
  • 2:44 - 2:48
This is what 2 litres looks like:
  • 2:49 - 2:53
    Eight glasses of water.
  • 2:53 - 2:57
Drinking this amount will help maintain a
healthy balance and keep you feeling well.
  • 2:57 - 3:01
If you don’t drink enough water, you
can become tired and find it difficult
  • 3:01 - 3:05
    to focus and function, so
    water is important too.
  • 3:07 - 3:08
    Cheers.
  • 3:11 - 3:15
    I hope you’ve learned something
    useful from watching this video.
  • 3:15 - 3:19
I’ve certainly learned something new about how
to balance your plate by having half vegetables.
  • 3:19 - 3:23
Yes. I’ve also learned a lot about how important
water is and how much I should be aiming to drink.
  • 3:23 - 3:24
    Eight glasses, wasn’t it?
  • 3:25 - 3:26
    That’s right.
  • 3:26 - 3:28
Also, what was it you said about fruit?
  • 3:28 - 3:30
That you have to eat five portions a day.
  • 3:30 - 3:33
    Right. Well, I’ve certainly picked
    up some new information.
  • 3:33 - 3:38
Great, well if you want to know
more, take a look at the link:
  • 3:44 - 3:47
    Yes, that really summarises
    everything, so thank you.
  • 3:48 - 3:49
    Bye.
