Residents of Tarkuwangam village in Shopian are expressing growing frustration over the failure of key rural development schemes such as PMGSY and NREGA to deliver meaningful change in their area. Locals report that since 2019, repeated pleas for basic infrastructure improvements—such as repairing broken roads, building footpaths, and constructing retaining walls along stream banks—have gone unheard.

The lack of development has turned everyday life into a struggle, with poor infrastructure creating serious inconvenience for residents, particularly during adverse weather conditions. "These schemes have completely failed us," said one local, highlighting the community’s sense of abandonment.

When contacted, Junior Engineer Tariq Ahmad assured that work on the long-pending projects would begin within a week and that priority would be given to the most critical needs.
