  • 0:15 - 0:16
    hello everybody
  • 0:16 - 0:19
long time no language update today's
  • 0:19 - 0:21
video is going to be super fun we're
  • 0:21 - 0:23
going to have a chatty video i'm going
  • 0:23 - 0:24
    to tell you all about
  • 0:24 - 0:26
how my language plans have changed
  • 0:26 - 0:27
    what's been working
  • 0:27 - 0:29
what apps am i using what new habits am
  • 0:29 - 0:30
    i trying
  • 0:30 - 0:32
and we're gonna do something together
  • 0:32 - 0:35
which is reviewing the last week
  • 0:35 - 0:36
of my language learning reviewing the
  • 0:36 - 0:39
last month and planning ahead for the
  • 0:39 - 0:40
    new quarter
  • 0:40 - 0:42
even though we are already one month
  • 0:42 - 0:43
    into the quarter
  • 0:43 - 0:45
it's gonna be a long video but get some
  • 0:45 - 0:48
tea get some popcorn get yourself comfy
  • 0:48 - 0:50
and uh let's have fun talking all things
  • 0:50 - 0:51
    languages
  • 0:51 - 0:54
let's talk about how it has been going
  • 0:54 - 0:55
    i'm gonna start with
  • 0:55 - 0:58
a review of quarter one for more
  • 0:58 - 1:00
um in-depth goals you can definitely
  • 1:00 - 1:02
check out my twitter thread where i've
  • 1:02 - 1:03
    pinned
  • 1:03 - 1:05
my goals for each quarter so i update
  • 1:05 - 1:07
    the thread every three months
  • 1:07 - 1:10
let me get out my handy dandy language
  • 1:10 - 1:11
    journal
  • 1:11 - 1:14
which has gained one more sticker i feel
  • 1:14 - 1:15
    like a child but
  • 1:15 - 1:18
it makes me happy so at the back of this
  • 1:18 - 1:19
    journal
  • 1:19 - 1:22
i have started to do a monthly
  • 1:22 - 1:22
    reflection
  • 1:22 - 1:26
as well as a quarterly reflection so on
  • 1:26 - 1:27
    these pages here i do
  • 1:27 - 1:29
a month reflection where i write down
  • 1:29 - 1:31
all of the languages i focused most of
  • 1:31 - 1:32
    my energy on
  • 1:32 - 1:35
what i was doing and what worked my
  • 1:35 - 1:38
    march reflection was quite ra
  • 1:38 - 1:40
my march reflection was quite long and i
  • 1:40 - 1:42
    wrote it in french
  • 1:42 - 1:45
and then my q1 goals has a page here
  • 1:45 - 1:46
    where i go through
  • 1:46 - 1:48
i'm just evaluating what i've achieved
  • 1:48 - 1:49
first of all some things that have
  • 1:49 - 1:51
    changed regarding the format
  • 1:51 - 1:53
of my language journal if you've been
  • 1:53 - 1:55
following the videos about my language
  • 1:55 - 1:57
    journal you'll see that
  • 1:57 - 1:58
right at the beginning of the year i
  • 1:58 - 2:00
thought that i could write a journal
  • 2:00 - 2:01
    entry
  • 2:01 - 2:03
every sunday this is definitely doable i
  • 2:03 - 2:05
do have time for it and i started
  • 2:05 - 2:07
    writing entries in both
  • 2:07 - 2:09
hungarian and tagalog at the start of
  • 2:09 - 2:10
    the year
  • 2:10 - 2:12
but halfway through quarter one if
  • 2:12 - 2:14
you'll see on my twitter thread
  • 2:14 - 2:16
i decided it's probably not the best
  • 2:16 - 2:17
    idea to be writing these
  • 2:17 - 2:20
journal entries every week because it
  • 2:20 - 2:21
    wasn't so beneficial
  • 2:21 - 2:23
i got more than enough reading and
  • 2:23 - 2:25
    writing practice
  • 2:25 - 2:28
doing homework for my language lessons
  • 2:28 - 2:29
    on italki
  • 2:29 - 2:32
and i found that because my tagalog is
  • 2:32 - 2:33
    still very beginner
  • 2:33 - 2:36
i wasn't able to write a lot so even
  • 2:36 - 2:37
    though i think writing is
  • 2:37 - 2:39
an amazing skill i don't think it was a
  • 2:39 - 2:40
good idea for me to write
  • 2:40 - 2:44
as such a like below a1 beginner in
  • 2:44 - 2:44
    tagalog
  • 2:44 - 2:46
because i spent most of the time
  • 2:46 - 2:48
scratching my head like what can i even
  • 2:48 - 2:49
    write about
  • 2:49 - 2:51
i do acknowledge that once you get a
  • 2:51 - 2:52
    little past that
  • 2:52 - 2:56
slight beginner hump uh once i got to
  • 2:56 - 2:58
oh gosh i haven't taken a level test in
  • 2:58 - 2:59
    hungarian but
  • 2:59 - 3:00
i'm definitely better at hungarian than
  • 3:00 - 3:02
i am in tagalog once you're at a
  • 3:02 - 3:04
    comfortable level where you can
  • 3:04 - 3:06
at least think in full sentences that's
  • 3:06 - 3:08
when you can start writing so long story
  • 3:08 - 3:08
    short
  • 3:08 - 3:10
    i stopped writing journal entries
  • 3:10 - 3:13
because i also write hungarian essays
  • 3:13 - 3:15
for homework and for practice throughout
  • 3:15 - 3:16
    the week i also
  • 3:16 - 3:19
tried to experiment with new things that
  • 3:19 - 3:20
i could do in my planner
  • 3:20 - 3:24
such as writing the apps that i use
  • 3:24 - 3:26
instead of telling myself what app to
  • 3:26 - 3:28
    use planning beforehand
  • 3:28 - 3:30
i just kept a log of which apps i
  • 3:30 - 3:32
    naturally gravitate to
  • 3:32 - 3:33
uh with language learning so that i
  • 3:33 - 3:35
could see okay these are the ones i
  • 3:35 - 3:36
    really enjoy using
  • 3:36 - 3:38
and maybe i can start scheduling these
  • 3:38 - 3:41
in and then i discovered toggle
  • 3:41 - 3:43
i am definitely not sponsored by them
  • 3:43 - 3:45
but i should be because i talk about
  • 3:45 - 3:46
    them so much
  • 3:46 - 3:48
toggle is not necessarily meant for
  • 3:48 - 3:50
language learning i think it's for like
  • 3:50 - 3:52
freelance work where you can track
  • 3:52 - 3:55
    billable and non-billable hours anyway
  • 3:55 - 3:57
i've been using toggle for a while to
  • 3:57 - 3:58
    track
  • 3:58 - 4:03
how much time i take learning languages
  • 4:03 - 4:05
previously i said uh it's not worth my
  • 4:05 - 4:07
    time to track my time
  • 4:07 - 4:08
because then i would feel stressed i
  • 4:08 - 4:10
    would feel pressured but
  • 4:10 - 4:13
this started out of sheer curiosity for
  • 4:13 - 4:13
    um
  • 4:13 - 4:15
wondering how much time do i really
  • 4:15 - 4:17
    spend on language learning
  • 4:17 - 4:19
versus how much time do i think i spend
  • 4:19 - 4:21
i wrote a blog post about different ways
  • 4:21 - 4:23
    to track your language learning
  • 4:23 - 4:26
so you can check it out on my website at
  • 4:26 - 4:28
lindybuttons.com where i go into much
  • 4:28 - 4:29
    more detail on
  • 4:29 - 4:30
different ways that you can track like a
  • 4:30 - 4:32
    journal or using toggle
  • 4:32 - 4:34
but anyway the interesting finding i had
  • 4:34 - 4:36
    was i actually spend
  • 4:36 - 4:38
more time learning languages than i
  • 4:38 - 4:39
    thought i did
  • 4:39 - 4:41
i also go through some phases where it
  • 4:41 - 4:42
    feels like learning one language
  • 4:42 - 4:44
is a lot more fun and motivational for
  • 4:44 - 4:46
me and other languages sort of take the
  • 4:46 - 4:47
    back seat
  • 4:47 - 4:49
right now tagalog is taking a little bit
  • 4:49 - 4:50
    of a back seat
  • 4:50 - 4:52
because i'm focusing most of my efforts
  • 4:52 - 4:54
    on hungarian
  • 4:54 - 4:56
i also have a newfound interest in
  • 4:56 - 4:58
    french and spanish
  • 4:58 - 5:01
anyhoodles uh back to how i use toggle
  • 5:01 - 5:03
    for my language log
  • 5:03 - 5:05
i've started to just draw out the amount
  • 5:05 - 5:07
of hours i spend on each language in a
  • 5:07 - 5:08
    week
  • 5:08 - 5:10
so that i can see which languages are
  • 5:10 - 5:11
    taking priority
  • 5:11 - 5:13
and the overwhelming majority is that
  • 5:13 - 5:15
    hungarian is definitely
  • 5:15 - 5:17
well except for this week it was spanish
  • 5:17 - 5:19
the majority of the time hungarian is
  • 5:19 - 5:22
the language i spend the most time on
  • 5:22 - 5:23
so what we're going to do first is go
  • 5:23 - 5:25
    through the last week
  • 5:25 - 5:28
i'll show you how i summarize my week
  • 5:28 - 5:31
review then we're gonna do my monthly
  • 5:31 - 5:31
    review
  • 5:31 - 5:33
and then we're gonna plan for quarter
  • 5:33 - 5:35
two all right let us dive straight into
  • 5:35 - 5:39
the review for the past week
  • 5:39 - 5:43
okie dokie let us begin here i have
  • 5:43 - 5:46
my language tracker journal and i also
  • 5:46 - 5:48
have my regular journal which is where i
  • 5:48 - 5:50
track all the things i have to do during
  • 5:50 - 5:52
a week just like my scheduler
  • 5:52 - 5:55
so first of all i just make a list of
  • 5:55 - 5:55
    the
  • 5:55 - 5:57
languages or activities i've done in a
  • 5:57 - 5:58
    week
  • 5:58 - 6:01
it's definitely not been as good as the
  • 6:01 - 6:03
    previous week so i've done
  • 6:03 - 6:06
a lot of reading a lot of hungarian
  • 6:06 - 6:06
    french
  • 6:06 - 6:11
    and we have espana spanish
  • 6:11 - 6:14
    and nihongo japanese
  • 6:14 - 6:18
    hungarian has been oh embarrassingly
  • 6:18 - 6:21
    only 56 minutes
  • 6:21 - 6:24
reading i spent 46 minutes not counting
  • 6:24 - 6:26
    ebooks
  • 6:26 - 6:31
french 22 minutes spanish 16 minutes
  • 6:31 - 6:34
and japanese about 10 minutes compared
  • 6:34 - 6:35
    to
  • 6:35 - 6:37
uh when was that really good yeah two
  • 6:37 - 6:38
    two or three weeks ago
  • 6:38 - 6:42
i spent six hours doing hungarian
  • 6:42 - 6:44
an hour doing tagalog in an hour doing
  • 6:44 - 6:45
    spanish
  • 6:45 - 6:48
any hurdles hey we're not competing
  • 6:48 - 6:50
    against anyone
  • 6:50 - 6:52
we're just doing what works for us
  • 6:52 - 6:53
    sometimes
  • 6:53 - 6:56
i might do a little like bar graph so
  • 6:56 - 6:58
one block is one hour so
  • 6:58 - 6:59
i mean i'll just say i did an hour of
  • 6:59 - 7:01
    reading
  • 7:01 - 7:05
a little more like an hour of hungarian
  • 7:05 - 7:09
22 minutes for french 16 minutes for
  • 7:09 - 7:11
    spanish and like
  • 7:11 - 7:13
10 minutes for japanese that's not
  • 7:13 - 7:14
    fantastic
  • 7:14 - 7:17
it's always good for me to see how it's
  • 7:17 - 7:19
been going the other thing is i was off
  • 7:19 - 7:19
    sick
  • 7:19 - 7:22
    for three days that's why i don't have a
  • 7:22 - 7:23
    lot of time
  • 7:23 - 7:26
    uh don't worry i didn't get
  • 7:26 - 7:28
what's been going around in the world i
  • 7:28 - 7:30
don't want to say the name because i
  • 7:30 - 7:31
think youtube like blocks the word but
  • 7:31 - 7:32
    anyway
  • 7:32 - 7:34
uh so like three or so days i was just
  • 7:34 - 7:35
    uh sleeping
  • 7:35 - 7:38
in bed for a lot of time you know what i
  • 7:38 - 7:40
do with these weekly check-ins is just
  • 7:40 - 7:42
sort of look at what were the factors
  • 7:42 - 7:42
    that
  • 7:42 - 7:46
    affected my productivity and see
  • 7:46 - 7:48
um is was it something i could control
  • 7:48 - 7:50
was it not and so forth
  • 7:50 - 7:53
uh for instance last week there was um a
  • 7:53 - 7:55
big increase in in my spanish compared
  • 7:55 - 7:57
to my hungarian i spent three hours
  • 7:57 - 7:58
    doing spanish
  • 7:58 - 8:00
one hour doing hungarian the reason for
  • 8:00 - 8:01
    that is
  • 8:01 - 8:04
for spanish i had sabado de espanol
  • 8:04 - 8:06
    intercambio which is
  • 8:06 - 8:08
about two hours of spanish speaking and
  • 8:08 - 8:11
i had a spanish lesson and prep which
  • 8:11 - 8:12
    was about
  • 8:12 - 8:14
one hour so that contributed to the
  • 8:14 - 8:16
    spike in my spanish
  • 8:16 - 8:18
then the previous week uh the week
  • 8:18 - 8:19
    before that actually
  • 8:19 - 8:22
hungarian was six hours so if i look
  • 8:22 - 8:23
    here
  • 8:23 - 8:26
i was um reviewing my notes quite a lot
  • 8:26 - 8:27
    there were
  • 8:27 - 8:30
one to two or three days when i was
  • 8:30 - 8:32
studying in a cafe with my friend
  • 8:32 - 8:34
and during those study times i would
  • 8:34 - 8:37
review my notes i also had
  • 8:37 - 8:39
a hungarian lesson and an hour of
  • 8:39 - 8:40
    studying and shadowing
  • 8:40 - 8:43
after my lesson and then i had two
  • 8:43 - 8:46
tagalog lessons so tagalog is about an
  • 8:46 - 8:47
    hour
  • 8:47 - 8:49
the reason i have this planners as well
  • 8:49 - 8:51
    is because
  • 8:51 - 8:55
as i have mentioned to you guys before
  • 8:55 - 8:57
i do track my mood and my emotions so
  • 8:57 - 8:59
this is something that i can look back
  • 8:59 - 9:00
    on
  • 9:00 - 9:03
and see for instance today or this week
  • 9:03 - 9:06
    27 28 29 i was feeling sick
  • 9:06 - 9:08
i didn't learn any languages i can go
  • 9:08 - 9:10
here to april and i can see
  • 9:10 - 9:14
26 27 28 the little black dot means it
  • 9:14 - 9:16
was not a very good day
  • 9:16 - 9:18
an open circle or an open circle with
  • 9:18 - 9:20
three dots on top means it was a really
  • 9:20 - 9:21
    good day
  • 9:21 - 9:24
so i can also sort of go a bit easier on
  • 9:24 - 9:25
    myself and say hey
  • 9:25 - 9:28
    it's okay if i didn't do a lot because i
  • 9:28 - 9:29
    was
  • 9:29 - 9:31
off sick essentially that's it for my
  • 9:31 - 9:33
weekly summary i keep it really simple
  • 9:33 - 9:35
i used to write you know all the apps i
  • 9:35 - 9:37
do i have these to-do lists
  • 9:37 - 9:41
i reflected on how the week went
  • 9:41 - 9:44
uh usually now i've stopped doing
  • 9:44 - 9:47
weekly reflections uh because i found
  • 9:47 - 9:49
    that just looking at
  • 9:49 - 9:52
toggle gives me a good oversight of
  • 9:52 - 9:53
    where my time has gone
  • 9:53 - 9:56
and that's a reflection in itself
  • 9:56 - 9:58
and then the last thing i do is sort of
  • 9:58 - 10:00
plan ahead for the next week
  • 10:00 - 10:03
so i'm just taking a look at my italki
  • 10:03 - 10:04
    lessons here so i have
  • 10:04 - 10:06
one spanish lesson coming up and i do
  • 10:06 - 10:08
know that i need to be uh booking
  • 10:08 - 10:11
more uh hungarian lessons so i'm
  • 10:11 - 10:12
    definitely gonna do that
  • 10:12 - 10:14
and i'm just gonna fill in what i'm
  • 10:14 - 10:16
doing so my interview in hungarian is
  • 10:16 - 10:21
on sunday saturday it is a
  • 10:21 - 10:25
salvador day and i have a lesson here
  • 10:25 - 10:26
seems pretty good i guess i'll have a
  • 10:26 - 10:28
lot of time to focus on work and reading
  • 10:28 - 10:30
    because my
  • 10:30 - 10:31
    most important language activities are
  • 10:31 - 10:33
only three days a week during the week
  • 10:33 - 10:35
    i'll fill in stuff here
  • 10:35 - 10:39
and then after the week i do the
  • 10:39 - 10:42
    review on the right page
  • 10:42 - 10:45
okay now it is time to do the monthly
  • 10:45 - 10:47
review and see how it went
  • 10:47 - 10:49
for april as a whole let me first give
  • 10:49 - 10:51
    you a little oversight on
  • 10:51 - 10:54
how i do my monthly reflections it
  • 10:54 - 10:55
changes every month i don't have an
  • 10:55 - 10:56
    exact template
  • 10:56 - 10:58
for january i just wrote the languages i
  • 10:58 - 11:00
    spent the most time on
  • 11:00 - 11:02
so that was french hungarian and tagalog
  • 11:02 - 11:04
and i also write sort of other things i
  • 11:04 - 11:06
    did related to languages
  • 11:06 - 11:09
such as podcasts or interviews for
  • 11:09 - 11:11
    february i had a little
  • 11:11 - 11:14
section here it's pretty personal but
  • 11:14 - 11:16
lucky you if you can read korean you can
  • 11:16 - 11:19
see my my secrets there uh something
  • 11:19 - 11:21
happened here and then i didn't spend as
  • 11:21 - 11:22
    much time on languages
  • 11:22 - 11:25
and again the section of what else i've
  • 11:25 - 11:26
    been doing
  • 11:26 - 11:29
related to languages for march it was a
  • 11:29 - 11:30
    bit different
  • 11:30 - 11:32
i spent a lot more time on french so i
  • 11:32 - 11:33
    wrote my entire
  • 11:33 - 11:36
um end of quarter one review summary
  • 11:36 - 11:40
in french and my friend ali corrected it
  • 11:40 - 11:41
    for me
  • 11:41 - 11:43
merci beaucoup then for the languages
  • 11:43 - 11:45
that i focused on in march was hungarian
  • 11:45 - 11:48
japanese tagalog french and spanish and
  • 11:48 - 11:50
    whatever else related to polygon
  • 11:50 - 11:53
conference or podcast interviews i just
  • 11:53 - 11:54
write whatever comes to mind like
  • 11:54 - 11:56
okay i only did one or two italki
  • 11:56 - 11:58
lessons or you know there were some
  • 11:58 - 12:00
solid study sessions i feel way more
  • 12:00 - 12:01
    comfortable to talk
  • 12:01 - 12:04
and then here is the evaluation of my
  • 12:04 - 12:05
    quarter one goals
  • 12:05 - 12:08
i set myself some goals at the beginning
  • 12:08 - 12:09
    in here about the
  • 12:09 - 12:12
amount of essays i wanted to write uh
  • 12:12 - 12:13
    the
  • 12:13 - 12:15
uh well i go to i go into a lot more
  • 12:15 - 12:16
    detail about this
  • 12:16 - 12:18
in my language goals video from january
  • 12:18 - 12:20
so you can take a look at that
  • 12:20 - 12:22
not going to talk about that now but i i
  • 12:22 - 12:24
kind of look at what my goals were
  • 12:24 - 12:26
and then how i performed so i wanted to
  • 12:26 - 12:28
do two chapters every month in my
  • 12:28 - 12:29
    tagalog textbook but
  • 12:29 - 12:32
i didn't do that because i was too busy
  • 12:32 - 12:33
    and that's okay
  • 12:33 - 12:35
i wanted to write two hungarian essays
  • 12:35 - 12:37
per month but i actually wrote six
  • 12:37 - 12:38
    essays so
  • 12:38 - 12:40
i'm very happy i wanted to start some
  • 12:40 - 12:43
books and textbooks but i didn't
  • 12:43 - 12:45
i'm seeing a flaw in my plan i think i
  • 12:45 - 12:47
have like very lofty goals about the
  • 12:47 - 12:48
textbooks and the books i want to use
  • 12:48 - 12:50
so that's something i should think about
  • 12:50 - 12:52
    when planning then
  • 12:52 - 12:53
throughout the middle of the quarter i
  • 12:53 - 12:55
    did change my plan so
  • 12:55 - 12:57
like i said before my weekly diary
  • 12:57 - 12:59
entries changed into monthly and weekly
  • 12:59 - 13:00
    reflections which were
  • 13:00 - 13:04
going steady that's all of these
  • 13:04 - 13:07
    um spanish lessons i'm
  • 13:07 - 13:08
okay this has changed for this quarter
  • 13:08 - 13:10
so last quarter i didn't take
  • 13:10 - 13:12
any spanish lessons on italki i only
  • 13:12 - 13:14
used the busu and speakly apps
  • 13:14 - 13:16
whereas now i've restarted my spanish
  • 13:16 - 13:18
    lessons on itaki
  • 13:18 - 13:21
i also wanted to read one korean article
  • 13:21 - 13:22
    but i didn't do that
  • 13:22 - 13:25
however i am subscribed to a design
  • 13:25 - 13:27
    newsletter called
  • 13:27 - 13:29
and i've been reading every single one
  • 13:29 - 13:32
of those so i guess it kind of counts
  • 13:32 - 13:34
and i've also summarized the amount of
  • 13:34 - 13:36
    hours i spent on italki
  • 13:36 - 13:40
which was 9.7 hours not a lot for an
  • 13:40 - 13:40
    entire month
  • 13:40 - 13:42
uh i'm sorry not a lot for three months
  • 13:42 - 13:45
but i think it's still worth noting and
  • 13:45 - 13:46
it's interesting for me to see where my
  • 13:46 - 13:49
time goes and for april 2021
  • 13:49 - 13:51
all the time that i have checked in
  • 13:51 - 13:53
    toggle
  • 13:53 - 13:56
    uh let's go back to
  • 13:56 - 14:00
    april 1st to april 30th
  • 14:00 - 14:04
    i had 24 minutes i'm sorry 24 hours of
  • 14:04 - 14:07
reading studying and website so i've
  • 14:07 - 14:08
    just written down these
  • 14:08 - 14:10
times here a majority of my time went to
  • 14:10 - 14:11
    hungarian
  • 14:11 - 14:13
which is good because that was my number
  • 14:13 - 14:15
    one goal for quarter one
  • 14:15 - 14:17
spanish which is interesting because i
  • 14:17 - 14:18
    didn't list it as
  • 14:18 - 14:22
my goal for the quarter and tagalog
  • 14:22 - 14:24
only one hour oh i'm sorry i got
  • 14:24 - 14:27
confused this is just for april
  • 14:27 - 14:29
that's fine uh it wasn't for the entire
  • 14:29 - 14:32
quarter one which i've already done
  • 14:32 - 14:35
here all right i think things are
  • 14:35 - 14:37
    looking pretty good
  • 14:38 - 14:42
not bad oh my gosh my book can you not
  • 14:42 - 14:46
all right things are looking pretty good
  • 14:46 - 14:48
okay time to continue writing uh my
  • 14:48 - 14:49
    reflection for
  • 14:49 - 14:54
    april not sure why
  • 14:54 - 14:55
gosh what did i write here not sure why
  • 14:55 - 14:58
    what not sure why
  • 14:58 - 15:01
well i don't know guess i have to think
  • 15:01 - 15:03
of something to fit into this sentence
  • 15:03 - 15:05
    that's weird
  • 15:05 - 15:10
i'm not sure why but i'm
  • 15:10 - 15:14
    much more into
  • 15:15 - 15:18
    reading books
  • 15:20 - 15:22
if you're wondering about these symbols
  • 15:22 - 15:24
the heart means yeah it's good this is
  • 15:24 - 15:26
    related to my goal
  • 15:26 - 15:28
the shin character in japanese or
  • 15:28 - 15:30
    chinese means new
  • 15:30 - 15:32
so like reading books is a new entry
  • 15:32 - 15:34
into my logs and my blog is like a new
  • 15:34 - 15:35
    thing that i'm tracking
  • 15:35 - 15:38
and these lines mean well i didn't aim
  • 15:38 - 15:39
    to do french or japanese
  • 15:39 - 15:42
this quarter or this month but it still
  • 15:42 - 15:43
    came
  • 15:43 - 15:46
up on my schedule and so on and so forth
  • 15:46 - 15:47
there's really nothing much that goes
  • 15:47 - 15:48
    into this
  • 15:48 - 15:50
just a reflection on what i've been
  • 15:50 - 15:52
doing and how things have been going
  • 15:52 - 15:56
you can do this in any way that you want
  • 15:59 - 16:01
these stickers are not excellent but
  • 16:01 - 16:03
just makes it fun just brightens up the
  • 16:03 - 16:04
    page
  • 16:04 - 16:07
emoji smiley faces i love this one this
  • 16:07 - 16:09
    is like
  • 16:09 - 16:14
my favorite emoji one more heart
  • 16:15 - 16:18
i wonder if i should like the amount of
  • 16:18 - 16:20
time i spend on italki that would be
  • 16:20 - 16:21
    interesting
  • 16:21 - 16:23
not that it's some kind of a competition
  • 16:23 - 16:24
    i just really enjoy
  • 16:24 - 16:26
looking at i don't know hours and
  • 16:26 - 16:28
    comparing myself to
  • 16:28 - 16:32
    myself let me see
  • 16:32 - 16:34
my lessons got to see what i did in
  • 16:34 - 16:36
    april so not may
  • 16:36 - 16:40
i need to write this down 45 minutes
  • 16:40 - 16:43
hungarian okay 350 minutes which is 5
  • 16:43 - 16:47
    hours and 25 minutes
  • 16:47 - 16:49
wow that's a lot compared to the
  • 16:49 - 16:50
    previous
  • 16:50 - 16:54
    quarter impressive okay five hours
  • 16:54 - 16:57
    really really five hours
  • 16:57 - 16:59
if my math is wrong i'm gonna be really
  • 16:59 - 17:01
    embarrassed but anyway
  • 17:01 - 17:06
    um 350 minutes
  • 17:06 - 17:09
    which is 5 hours and
  • 17:09 - 17:13
    25 minutes
  • 17:14 - 17:16
    [Music]
  • 17:16 - 17:17
now that we've done my weekly and
  • 17:17 - 17:19
monthly review let's take a look at my
  • 17:19 - 17:21
    goals for the next quarter
  • 17:21 - 17:23
and i'll show you how i go about
  • 17:23 - 17:25
    planning and ideating for that
  • 17:25 - 17:27
i think i wrote this last month and i
  • 17:27 - 17:28
wanted to focus on hungarian spanish
  • 17:28 - 17:29
    tagalog
  • 17:29 - 17:32
and chinese things have changed i'm not
  • 17:32 - 17:34
really feeling a lot of chinese
  • 17:34 - 17:37
uh just because i want to focus a lot of
  • 17:37 - 17:38
    my efforts on hungarian
  • 17:38 - 17:42
i'm just gonna scratch out chinese here
  • 17:42 - 17:46
and not sure i'm gonna do anything for
  • 17:46 - 17:48
    tagalog
  • 17:48 - 17:50
i should probably um review my lessons
  • 17:50 - 17:52
and catch up on my textbook
  • 17:52 - 17:54
and then the other two languages number
  • 17:54 - 17:58
    four and number five
  • 17:58 - 18:01
    is french
  • 18:01 - 18:05
and spanish i'm pretty casual with how
  • 18:05 - 18:08
i set um goals because it's better for
  • 18:08 - 18:10
me to focus on small daily habits than
  • 18:10 - 18:12
really big lofty goals obviously because
  • 18:12 - 18:14
i'm not finishing my books any hurdles
  • 18:14 - 18:16
so for hungarian we're going to just
  • 18:16 - 18:17
    continue what we've been doing
  • 18:17 - 18:20
which is lots of italki lessons
  • 18:20 - 18:23
i'm going to be on hungarian radio soon
  • 18:23 - 18:25
    so that's a milestone
  • 18:25 - 18:27
and i want to continue let's say three
  • 18:27 - 18:28
    essays
  • 18:28 - 18:32
    one a month for spanish
  • 18:32 - 18:35
    i want to do weekly
  • 18:35 - 18:39
    um inter
  • 18:39 - 18:42
    gambio language exchange
  • 18:42 - 18:46
and i want to do daily
  • 18:46 - 18:49
    uh busu app tagalog
  • 18:49 - 18:52
    review all
  • 18:52 - 18:56
italki for french i would like to have
  • 18:56 - 18:56
    at least
  • 18:56 - 19:00
    two times language exchange
  • 19:00 - 19:05
or conversation with my friend ali
  • 19:05 - 19:08
and i want to do speakly
  • 19:08 - 19:12
    app daily
  • 19:12 - 19:14
for spell oh i wrote spanish twice no
  • 19:14 - 19:15
wonder i was like why do i have five
  • 19:15 - 19:16
    languages here
  • 19:16 - 19:19
let me just get some white out this
  • 19:19 - 19:20
    doesn't mean i'm so
  • 19:20 - 19:22
rigid in the sense that like no japanese
  • 19:22 - 19:24
or oh that reminds me you have to add
  • 19:24 - 19:24
    japanese
  • 19:24 - 19:26
no korean is allowed i kind of just do
  • 19:26 - 19:28
    what i feel like
  • 19:28 - 19:31
so i'm going to add japanese in here
  • 19:31 - 19:33
as you can see i'm really casual with
  • 19:33 - 19:35
    this there's no rules
  • 19:35 - 19:39
any hurdles uh nihongo and all i'm gonna
  • 19:39 - 19:40
    do is
  • 19:40 - 19:43
    poompo one chapter
  • 19:43 - 19:46
daily i'm so sorry if you guys think
  • 19:46 - 19:48
that i am a really organized person
  • 19:48 - 19:49
because that couldn't be further from
  • 19:49 - 19:50
    the truth
  • 19:50 - 19:53
i'm all about authenticity here so i
  • 19:53 - 19:54
    know that
  • 19:54 - 19:56
at the beginning of this quarter i
  • 19:56 - 19:57
actually wrote my goals on my twitter
  • 19:57 - 19:59
thread so i'm going to look at that
  • 19:59 - 20:03
and uh see if my ideation here is
  • 20:03 - 20:05
aligning with the goals that i set out
  • 20:05 - 20:06
in this quarter because we're already a
  • 20:06 - 20:07
    month
  • 20:07 - 20:11
    in into q1 so for q2 i
  • 20:11 - 20:12
said i want to attend all the italki
  • 20:12 - 20:14
lessons i booked yes that's that's in my
  • 20:14 - 20:15
    plan
  • 20:15 - 20:17
uh finally start the spanish short
  • 20:17 - 20:19
stories yes let me get the book i'm
  • 20:19 - 20:20
    talking about
  • 20:20 - 20:22
i've read one or two stories in here
  • 20:22 - 20:24
    which have been great
  • 20:24 - 20:26
but i haven't actually like start to
  • 20:26 - 20:27
    finish read the book so
  • 20:27 - 20:29
i mentioned this in my spanish resources
  • 20:29 - 20:30
    book uh
  • 20:30 - 20:32
i'll put a link in the description if
  • 20:32 - 20:33
you're interested in getting it it's
  • 20:33 - 20:35
    really awesome
  • 20:35 - 20:37
because there are some questions like
  • 20:37 - 20:38
    comprehension questions at the end
  • 20:38 - 20:40
    there's vocab lists
  • 20:40 - 20:41
and the stories are really funny and
  • 20:41 - 20:43
interesting so that's what i mean by
  • 20:43 - 20:46
starting this book like from start to
  • 20:46 - 20:47
    finish
  • 20:47 - 20:49
i should probably put that in here i'm
  • 20:49 - 20:51
    i'm cautious of
  • 20:51 - 20:54
putting that in because i didn't do it
  • 20:54 - 20:55
in the first quarter that was my goal
  • 20:55 - 20:56
    for q1
  • 20:56 - 20:59
but now that i'm really way more into
  • 20:59 - 21:00
    reading
  • 21:00 - 21:02
and i'm tracking a lot of my reading on
  • 21:02 - 21:03
    goodreads also because my
  • 21:03 - 21:05
like emotions like my feeling towards
  • 21:05 - 21:06
    spanish is
  • 21:06 - 21:09
just much better than previously i can
  • 21:09 - 21:11
also add it in here and
  • 21:11 - 21:15
i should likely do so let's do short
  • 21:15 - 21:19
stories uh read one article a month
  • 21:19 - 21:21
    i mean that's very doable it doesn't
  • 21:21 - 21:23
take very long to read an article
  • 21:23 - 21:25
but uh i'll see how that goes i'm not
  • 21:25 - 21:26
gonna write it down right now
  • 21:26 - 21:28
then i have some hungarian goals what
  • 21:28 - 21:29
did i feel comfortable enough to do the
  • 21:29 - 21:31
radio interview yeah this is happening
  • 21:31 - 21:32
    next week
  • 21:32 - 21:34
uh i'll let you guys know how it goes
  • 21:34 - 21:36
with that and continue my cadence of
  • 21:36 - 21:38
writing two articles a month okay
  • 21:38 - 21:39
uh two essays a month well here i've put
  • 21:39 - 21:41
    three essays
  • 21:41 - 21:43
uh so we'll see what i get done um
  • 21:43 - 21:45
    continue attending weekly or
  • 21:45 - 21:47
bi-weekly lessons yep we got italki
  • 21:47 - 21:49
lessons it's definitely at the core of
  • 21:49 - 21:50
    my learning
  • 21:50 - 21:52
and finished two chapters in my textbook
  • 21:52 - 21:54
    i don't think i'm gonna do this
  • 21:54 - 21:56
i'm really really struggling with my
  • 21:56 - 21:57
    hungarian textbook
  • 21:57 - 22:00
it's so boring i think what i'm going to
  • 22:00 - 22:02
    change
  • 22:02 - 22:04
instead of finishing my textbook i want
  • 22:04 - 22:05
    to do
  • 22:05 - 22:09
    weekly podcast
  • 22:09 - 22:13
from cc it's way more fun
  • 22:13 - 22:15
and finish two yeah not doing that
  • 22:15 - 22:17
tagalog goals i definitely didn't finish
  • 22:17 - 22:19
    my textbook
  • 22:19 - 22:21
uh so i'll try and do two chapters a
  • 22:21 - 22:22
    month
  • 22:22 - 22:28
not a week and learn all my verbs
  • 22:28 - 22:29
i'm not sure if i'm gonna do this
  • 22:29 - 22:31
    because spanish
  • 22:31 - 22:32
and french have definitely taken the
  • 22:32 - 22:35
    seed of tagalog here
  • 22:35 - 22:37
we'll think about that like i mentioned
  • 22:37 - 22:38
    this is a very
  • 22:38 - 22:40
iterative and fun process nothing is
  • 22:40 - 22:42
    really set in stone
  • 22:42 - 22:44
as for new habits that i'm trying these
  • 22:44 - 22:45
    are small
  • 22:45 - 22:47
bite-sized things that i want to see as
  • 22:47 - 22:50
a test if i'm able to do it every day
  • 22:50 - 22:52
so what i'm trying is to do a little
  • 22:52 - 22:53
    habit tracker of just
  • 22:53 - 22:56
uh four apps that i want to use for each
  • 22:56 - 22:57
    language
  • 22:57 - 23:00
don't judge me on the first one it is uh
  • 23:00 - 23:03
    duolingo for hungarian only because
  • 23:03 - 23:06
i haven't found any other app that is as
  • 23:06 - 23:08
    good as duolingo for hungarian
  • 23:08 - 23:11
i know duolingo gets a lot of hate but i
  • 23:11 - 23:13
find their hungarian course to be
  • 23:13 - 23:15
pretty okay i would definitely not
  • 23:15 - 23:17
recommend them for asian languages like
  • 23:17 - 23:19
    korean japanese or chinese
  • 23:19 - 23:21
not duolingo but hey for french and
  • 23:21 - 23:23
    spanish and hungarian
  • 23:23 - 23:26
    duolingo's not that bad anyways i don't
  • 23:26 - 23:27
have the free version i don't have the
  • 23:27 - 23:29
    paid version or anything but
  • 23:29 - 23:32
i do want to do at least one duolingo
  • 23:32 - 23:34
    lesson in hungarian every day
  • 23:34 - 23:37
uh then for spanish i'm using busu i've
  • 23:37 - 23:37
    done
  • 23:37 - 23:40
one review video for busu like a year
  • 23:40 - 23:41
    and a half ago
  • 23:41 - 23:43
a lot of things have changed and updated
  • 23:43 - 23:45
    with the app it's fantastic
  • 23:45 - 23:47
none of this video is sponsored i'm just
  • 23:47 - 23:49
sharing with you what i enjoy using
  • 23:49 - 23:52
so boso for spanish then my most recent
  • 23:52 - 23:53
    video review was for
  • 23:53 - 23:56
speakly which i still hands down is the
  • 23:56 - 23:58
    best language app i've used
  • 23:58 - 24:00
i'm using speakly for french also
  • 24:00 - 24:02
    because the audio
  • 24:02 - 24:05
listening exercises are fantastic i am
  • 24:05 - 24:08
such a big fan of speakly uh so that's
  • 24:08 - 24:10
for french every day and then i still
  • 24:10 - 24:12
    want to complete the boompo
  • 24:12 - 24:14
app which i also have a review video
  • 24:14 - 24:15
    about which i'll link
  • 24:15 - 24:18
    somewhere for japanese i'm working
  • 24:18 - 24:20
    through all the jlpt levels
  • 24:20 - 24:23
i'm currently finishing up n4 and then
  • 24:23 - 24:24
    i'll move on to
  • 24:24 - 24:26
and three so just these four apps that
  • 24:26 - 24:28
    i'm doing daily
  • 24:28 - 24:30
i figured um after doing all four of
  • 24:30 - 24:31
    these it takes me about
  • 24:31 - 24:34
half an hour to 45 minutes it's very
  • 24:34 - 24:35
    minor and short
  • 24:35 - 24:38
but i want to see if i see any benefit
  • 24:38 - 24:40
through doing this every single day
  • 24:40 - 24:41
    because i know small incremental
  • 24:41 - 24:42
    progress
  • 24:42 - 24:45
is much better than spending hours in a
  • 24:45 - 24:45
    week
  • 24:45 - 24:48
and then leaving the next few days to do
  • 24:48 - 24:49
    nothing
  • 24:49 - 24:51
by the way for curiosity on my home
  • 24:51 - 24:53
screen uh this page is where i track all
  • 24:53 - 24:55
my small habits so you'll see my daily
  • 24:55 - 24:57
habits are these apps weekly duolingo
  • 24:57 - 24:59
busu and boompo i put those apps on the
  • 24:59 - 25:01
    right over here
  • 25:01 - 25:03
and then other activities that i do
  • 25:03 - 25:05
    either weekly or
  • 25:05 - 25:07
um daily that's how it's been going oh
  • 25:07 - 25:09
yes as for the languages i am focusing
  • 25:09 - 25:11
    on this month
  • 25:11 - 25:14
the new ones to me are hungarian tagalog
  • 25:14 - 25:16
has taken a little bit of a back seat
  • 25:16 - 25:18
    like i mentioned
  • 25:18 - 25:20
and the rest are japanese french and
  • 25:20 - 25:21
    spanish
  • 25:21 - 25:24
i haven't done any korean this year and
  • 25:24 - 25:26
something i also wanted to mention
  • 25:26 - 25:28
is that the more advanced and the more
  • 25:28 - 25:30
fluent you get in the language
  • 25:30 - 25:33
the slower you will forget it so tagalog
  • 25:33 - 25:34
    i know
  • 25:34 - 25:35
that i'm still a beginner so my
  • 25:35 - 25:37
forgetting curve is really really fast
  • 25:37 - 25:40
i need to go back and make sure i review
  • 25:40 - 25:41
    all that i've learned
  • 25:41 - 25:44
before i sort of get back into it but
  • 25:44 - 25:44
    with korean
  • 25:44 - 25:47
it's been 11 years in the learning and
  • 25:47 - 25:48
    speaking
  • 25:48 - 25:50
uh during high school and university
  • 25:50 - 25:52
i've spoken almost every single day
  • 25:52 - 25:54
of my life not doing any korean this
  • 25:54 - 25:55
    entire year
  • 25:55 - 25:58
is absolutely fine sometimes my tongue
  • 25:58 - 26:00
feels a little rusty like i might speak
  • 26:00 - 26:01
    with a
  • 26:01 - 26:04
weirder pronunciation than i used to
  • 26:04 - 26:06
    vocabulary and understanding it's pretty
  • 26:06 - 26:07
much the same as it has been for like
  • 26:07 - 26:08
    the past
  • 26:08 - 26:11
five or six years so something to keep
  • 26:11 - 26:12
    in mind uh
  • 26:12 - 26:15
that hungarian is the only really really
  • 26:15 - 26:16
    beginner language
  • 26:16 - 26:19
and then in order of uh beginner to more
  • 26:19 - 26:21
    fluent it's uh spanish
  • 26:21 - 26:24
uh french and japanese so sort of
  • 26:24 - 26:26
    focusing on languages at different
  • 26:26 - 26:29
levels that are not overwhelming myself
  • 26:29 - 26:31
or making it too easy well that's it for
  • 26:31 - 26:32
    today
  • 26:32 - 26:34
thank you all so much for watching uh oh
  • 26:34 - 26:36
i have one more thing to thank you for
  • 26:36 - 26:39
    your absolute incredible generosity with
  • 26:39 - 26:41
    your kofi donations
  • 26:41 - 26:43
i told you in a few previous videos that
  • 26:43 - 26:45
    my sound quality is
  • 26:45 - 26:47
not great so if you have been commenting
  • 26:47 - 26:48
    on that i'm very sorry
  • 26:48 - 26:50
but i decided it is high time for me to
  • 26:50 - 26:52
    buy a microphone
  • 26:52 - 26:54
haven't gotten the microphone yet but we
  • 26:54 - 26:55
    did reach my
  • 26:55 - 26:57
savings goal and i want to say thank you
  • 26:57 - 26:59
so much to all of you who
  • 26:59 - 27:02
generously contributed and today i'll be
  • 27:02 - 27:03
    looking for a new microphone
  • 27:03 - 27:05
so hopefully my next videos will sound a
  • 27:05 - 27:08
lot better thank you all so so much
  • 27:08 - 27:11
one more thing i started a newsletter at
  • 27:11 - 27:12

  • 27:12 - 27:14

  • 27:36 - 27:38
content i've posted in the month like a
  • 27:38 - 27:39
    summary
  • 27:39 - 27:41
some things that i've learned answering
  • 27:41 - 27:43
    faqs
  • 27:43 - 27:45
uh sharing an interesting resource or
