True Grace and True Freedom - Sarah and Hagar - Old VS New Covenant / Kingdom School - Lesson 6
-
0:00 - 0:06Welcome to the Kingdom school.
I’m so excited about Lesson 6. -
0:06 - 0:12God revealed the ‘Kingdom school’
teaching to me when I was in jail. -
0:12 - 0:15This lesson was my favourite
and it still is today. -
0:15 - 0:20I’ve been getting excited while preparing
and making this lesson ready for you. -
0:20 - 0:22I’m very excited about this lesson.
-
0:22 - 0:25I’m sure it’ll open your eyes
to so many things. -
0:25 - 0:33Since Lesson 5 came out, many
things have happened here in Mexico. -
0:33 - 0:36We’ve started our next Luke 10 school.
-
0:36 - 0:43I took this photo only two days ago.
Here is the next Luke 10 school. -
0:43 - 0:46There are many people here:
students and helpers. -
0:46 - 0:50Over 120 people are sharing life
with us, here and now. -
0:50 - 0:55They’ve come here from all
over the world, from over 20 nations. -
0:55 - 0:58God is doing beautiful things.
-
0:58 - 1:03I also hope this teaching will
help you to live this life. -
1:03 - 1:07I hope that you’ll have testimonies
of being led by the Spirit. -
1:07 - 1:10I hope that you’ll have a good
foundation in your life. -
1:10 - 1:17Many of the students here
have testimonies. -
1:17 - 1:24I met one guy here yesterday
and heard his testimony. -
1:24 - 1:30I asked somebody to record it.
Here’s a one-minute testimony. -
1:30 - 1:39Please listen to what he says. This guy
met God only a few weeks ago. -
1:39 - 1:43Now he’s here. Listen to this testimony.
-
1:43 - 1:46(Interviewer) Please share: how
did you get on the Luke 10 school? -
1:46 - 1:48(Guy) So I went to a kickstart.
-
1:48 - 1:56I got baptised by the Holy Spirit
and started speaking in tongues. -
1:56 - 2:01After that, we prayed for a man who
hadn’t walked for two years. -
2:01 - 2:04(Interviewer) Wow.
(Guy) We prayed for him. -
2:04 - 2:09Actually, we were in a hurry as we’d
already paid for our parking tickets. -
2:09 - 2:15So, we prayed for him and then ran to our
car. But something told me to look back. -
2:15 - 2:19When I looked back, I saw that man
walking away with his cane in hand. -
2:19 - 2:25Now I’ve left my job. I’ve joined the Luke
10 school. (Interviewer) Wow, beautiful. -
2:25 - 2:32There’s actually more to this story than
he tells here. I heard more of it later. -
2:32 - 2:35What happened a few weeks ago?
-
2:35 - 2:39Some students from the previous
Luke 10 school went to Mexico City. -
2:39 - 2:45There, they met this guy. There, he was
filled with the Holy Spirit and set free. -
2:45 - 2:48He was kickstarted, just as he says here.
-
2:48 - 2:52He prayed for someone out
on the street, who got healed. -
2:52 - 2:56This guy turned around. He saw that
person, walking with his cane in hand. -
2:56 - 3:00But it didn’t stop there. A few
days later, this guy got a vision: -
3:00 - 3:05He saw a specific house
with three people inside. -
3:05 - 3:10Shortly afterwards, he actually
saw the same house as in the vision. -
3:10 - 3:16He went and knocked on the door. He saw
the same three people as in the vision. -
3:16 - 3:18He entered and shared Jesus with them.
-
3:18 - 3:23So many things have happened
in his life in the last three weeks. -
3:23 - 3:30Now he’s here. He quit his job. He came
here, because he wants more of this life. -
3:30 - 3:34It’s a beautiful story. It’s the fruit
that came from what we planted. -
3:34 - 3:39I didn’t go to Mexico City: neither
our team nor the leaders. -
3:39 - 3:44But the previous school’s
students went there. -
3:44 - 3:47Now this guy’s here as a student,
on this school. -
3:47 - 3:53He’ll be sent out like the others were.
We have so many testimonies. -
3:53 - 3:55So, the school has already started.
-
3:55 - 3:58However, we are planning the next
school here for this summer. -
3:58 - 4:03Also, more schools will happen in the
future. So, things are happening. -
4:03 - 4:05I want to announce something else.
-
4:05 - 4:12Since Lesson 5 came out, my book
‘412 days’ has come out as an audio book. -
4:12 - 4:20You can find that on audible.com
or on Amazon. -
4:20 - 4:25It’s a good opportunity
for you to listen to it: -
4:25 - 4:36A journey of hope, freedom and revival.
Here are two reviews for the audio book. -
4:36 - 4:40I want to read them to you: ‘Thank
you Torben for being so vulnerable!! -
4:40 - 4:45I love how open and honest
Torben was in this book. -
4:45 - 4:54It has many important facts about
Jesus’ gospel and being a disciple. -
4:54 - 4:56There’s a lot to learn for all of us!’
-
4:56 - 5:00We see the same thing with
the Kingdom school. -
5:00 - 5:09There are many facts about the gospel
of the kingdom and being a disciple. -
5:09 - 5:13He says this about the audio book:
There’s a lot to learn for all of us! -
5:13 - 5:18Another person wrote here: ‘Read/listen
to this book. Thank you Torben! -
5:18 - 5:23You're transparent, vulnerable, and
open about your experience in jail.’ -
5:23 - 5:30Yes, I’m very honest in the book,
about my pain. -
5:30 - 5:36I wrote it in the midst of my pain.
So, it’s a very special book. -
5:36 - 5:40‘This book deeply moved me.
-
5:40 - 5:46It helped me to evaluate my walk
in the fear of the Lord.’ -
5:46 - 5:49Yes, we want you to be moved.
-
5:49 - 5:54We want you to evaluate your life
in the fear of the Lord. -
5:54 - 6:03‘This book impacted my walk with Christ.
Thank you is an understatement.’ -
6:03 - 6:06I want to say this to you:
-
6:06 - 6:09If you want to get this book,
there are links under this video. -
6:09 - 6:12Click on the link and get the book.
What if you aren't a big reader? -
6:12 - 6:19You can now listen to the audio book on
your phone or other device. I like that. -
6:19 - 6:28We looked at some things in Lesson 5,
including this slide that I love. -
6:28 - 6:29Today, I want to start with that.
-
6:29 - 6:33It's a good summary of the
covenants we’ve looked at. -
6:33 - 6:37The Bible contains one story,
from the beginning to the end. -
6:37 - 6:47The first covenant here is with Noah.
It points to the return of Christ. -
6:47 - 6:51Then, God will judge the world:
Not with water like the first time. -
6:51 - 6:55He promised not to do that. But next
time, He’ll judge the world with fire. -
6:55 - 6:58Jesus is the greater ark
that we are saved into. -
6:58 - 7:05In the covenant with Noah, the sign is
the rainbow. It’s a sign of hope. -
7:05 - 7:08We look forward to the return of
our Lord Jesus, our blessed hope. -
7:08 - 7:14A sign of hope and a new beginning
for those saved in the ark; -
7:14 - 7:18the rest perished in the waters.
-
7:18 - 7:26And now in Christ, we are saved
from the waters of destruction. How? -
7:26 - 7:30Through the waters,
that symbolize baptism. -
7:30 - 7:41We leave the old life behind
and embrace hope for eternal life. -
7:41 - 7:45Then we looked at the Abrahamic covenant.
-
7:45 - 7:48That included the circumcision,
the cutting of the foreskin. -
7:48 - 7:52The cutting of the foreskin
was the sign of the covenant. -
7:52 - 8:01This prevented them from being
cut off from the promise. -
8:01 - 8:04Instead, they could inherit
through Abraham. -
8:04 - 8:10Now in Christ, we are circumcised
in our heart. -
8:10 - 8:14Therefore, we will inherit as
Abraham’s children. -
8:14 - 8:17Today we’ll look more at the
phrase “children of Abraham”. -
8:17 - 8:21Lesson 6 will give you
a new understanding. -
8:21 - 8:29We’ll see that it is not all
children of Abraham will inherit. -
8:29 - 8:36Only the children who came from
Sarah will inherit, not those of Hagar. -
8:36 - 8:41It's connected together. I’ll teach about
this today. Later Moses came. -
8:41 - 8:48There were the stone tablets:
Keep my laws. -
8:48 - 8:52Be God’s treasured possession, a
kingdom of priests, a holy nation. -
8:52 - 8:58In Christ, God has now written
His laws on our hearts; -
8:58 - 9:03So, we can be God’s treasured
possession, a kingdom of priests etc. -
9:03 - 9:13In Lesson 6 and 7, we’ll look at this
more and bring it all together. -
9:13 - 9:19It’ll become one whole amazing story.
-
9:19 - 9:25Lesson 5 brought some questions
up about the law. -
9:25 - 9:30Firstly, today, I’ll take few minutes
to talk about the law. -
9:30 - 9:35Here’s an important point.
We are dead to the law. -
9:35 - 9:39Lesson 6 will help you understand
this: We’re free from the law. -
9:39 - 9:46We’re free to marry somebody else.
We’re free to walk in righteousness. -
9:46 - 9:53But the law is good. This is still true
when you’re not bound to the law. -
9:53 - 9:581 Timothy: “We know that the law
is good if it is used properly.” -
9:58 - 10:03The law is still good. But how
should we use the law? -
10:03 - 10:10If we use it the right way,
it reveals sin. That is good. -
10:10 - 10:15If we use it in the wrong way, it’s not
good. Why? Because the law brings death. -
10:15 - 10:21Paul continues: “We also know that
the law isn’t made for godly people.” -
10:21 - 10:28It’s not for righteous people. “It is
for those who break the law. -
10:28 - 10:33It is for those who refuse to obey.
It is for ungodly and sinful people.” -
10:33 - 10:38Why? Because sin is revealed
through the law. -
10:38 - 10:42Then those people can come into
Christ and become righteous. -
10:42 - 10:46We become dead to the law,
so that we can live a new life. -
10:46 - 10:50Therefore, we’re not under the law
anymore. This will become clearer. -
10:50 - 10:57It’s very important to understand this.
-
10:57 - 11:01In Matthew 5, Jesus said:
-
11:01 - 11:05“Do not think that I have come to
abolish the Law or the Prophets; -
11:05 - 11:10I have not come to abolish but to
fulfil them.” How did He fulfil them? -
11:10 - 11:12Everything points to Christ:
-
11:12 - 11:19The Law (the first 5 books) and
the Prophets (that we’ll look at later). -
11:19 - 11:24They all point to and are
fulfilled in Christ. -
11:24 - 11:29Has he already fulfilled
them? No, not everything. -
11:29 - 11:33There is the Passover and
the Feast of Unleavened Bread. -
11:33 - 11:36There is the Feast of First fruits
and the Feast of Weeks. -
11:36 - 11:39These first four feasts
were actually fulfilled: -
11:39 - 11:41Through Jesus’ death,
burial and resurrection. -
11:41 - 11:44Through the giving of the Holy Spirit.
-
11:44 - 11:46But there are three more feasts:
-
11:46 - 11:50The Feast of Trumpets, the Day of
Atonement and the Feast of Tabernacles. -
11:50 - 11:56Those are not yet fulfilled, but
they will be when Jesus returns. -
11:56 - 12:02We’ll look at those things later on.
-
12:02 - 12:06This teaching is laying and
building on a foundation. -
12:06 - 12:10Jesus did not come to abolish the
Law and Prophets. He came to fulfil them. -
12:10 - 12:13They all point to Him. He said this:
-
12:13 - 12:18“For truly I tell you, until heaven and
earth disappear, not the smallest letter, -
12:18 - 12:24not the least stroke of a pen, will by
any means disappear from the Law -
12:24 - 12:27until everything is accomplished.”
-
12:27 - 12:33So, everything will be accomplished
at Jesus’ return. The Law is good. -
12:33 - 12:38However, we need to use it
properly, in the right way. -
12:38 - 12:41That law is not for us who are in Christ:
-
12:41 - 12:44Those who are born again
and walk by the Spirit. -
12:44 - 12:47It is for sinners and lawbreakers.
-
12:47 - 12:51It reveals sin so that they
can come into Christ. -
12:51 - 12:57Then they’ll become dead to the
law but alive in Him. Jesus said: -
12:57 - 13:01“Therefore anyone who sets aside
one of the least of these commands -
13:01 - 13:05and teaches others accordingly will
be called least in the kingdom of heaven, -
13:05 - 13:09but whoever practices and
teaches these commands -
13:09 - 13:13will be called great in the kingdom
of heaven. For I tell you” -
13:13 - 13:21- this is very important - “that
unless your righteousness surpasses -
13:21 - 13:23that of the Pharisees and the
teachers of the law, -
13:23 - 13:27you will certainly not enter
the kingdom of heaven.” -
13:27 - 13:36Our righteousness should surpass that of
the teachers of the law and the Pharisees. -
13:36 - 13:40These were the people who
were teaching the law. -
13:40 - 13:49Our righteousness should surpass theirs.
Then Jesus said something interesting: -
13:49 - 13:58“You have heard” – talking
about the law of Moses - -
13:58 - 14:03“You have heard that it was said
to the people long ago, -
14:03 - 14:07“You shall not murder, and anyone
who murders will be subject to judgment.” -
14:07 - 14:13That’s what the law said.
Jesus said: “But I tell you, -
14:13 - 14:17that anyone who is angry with a brother
or sister will be subject to judgement.” -
14:17 - 14:22So, the law said one thing,
but Jesus said something else. -
14:22 - 14:28What Jesus says, is higher and
more perfect than the Mosaic law. -
14:28 - 14:34He lifted it up. He continues: “You have
heard that it was said” – in the law - -
14:34 - 14:36“You shall not commit adultery.”
-
14:36 - 14:44But I tell you that anyone who
looks at a woman lustfully -
14:44 - 14:48has already committed adultery
with her in his heart.” He continues: -
14:48 - 14:52“It has been said, “Anyone
who divorces his wife -
14:52 - 14:55must give her a certificate of divorce.”
-
14:55 - 15:00But I tell you that anyone who divorces
his wife, except for sexual immorality, -
15:00 - 15:03makes her the victim of adultery,
-
15:03 - 15:07and anyone who marries a divorced
woman commits adultery.” -
15:07 - 15:21So, Jesus explained what the law of Moses
said. However, He raised the standard. -
15:21 - 15:27It was no longer about just the
physical actions, but about the heart. -
15:27 - 15:34Jesus dealt with something that
Moses could not. He dealt with the heart. -
15:34 - 15:37The Mosaic law was written
on physical stone tablets. -
15:37 - 15:40A person can try to keep that law.
-
15:40 - 15:45But inside, they are rotten, full of
dead man’s bones and lots of bad things. -
15:45 - 15:48In Lesson 5, we read that
Jesus talked to the Pharisees. -
15:48 - 15:51He told them first to clean
the inside of the vessel. -
15:51 - 15:53Then the vessel would also
be clean on the outside. -
15:53 - 15:58So, the law is good,
but it’s not perfect. -
15:58 - 16:06The law couldn’t reach
the standard that God wanted. -
16:06 - 16:25In Matthew 19, Jesus talked
about marriage, remarriage and divorce: -
16:25 - 16:27“So they are no longer two,
but one flesh. -
16:27 - 16:30Therefore, what God has joined
together, let no one separate.” -
16:30 - 16:33Jesus talked about God’s standard.
-
16:33 - 16:41The Pharisees heard that
God had a higher standard: -
16:41 - 16:43“Why then” they asked,
-
16:43 - 16:49“did Moses command that a man give
his wife a certificate of divorce -
16:49 - 16:50and send her away?”
-
16:50 - 16:57If God’s standard is so high, why
did the law say something else? -
16:57 - 17:03This is important here:
“Jesus replied, “Moses…” -
17:03 - 17:06God had given the command
but it came through Moses. -
17:06 - 17:13In that way, it was a human,
imperfect command. -
17:13 - 17:23“Moses permitted you to divorce your
wives because your hearts were hard. -
17:23 - 17:27But it was not this way
from the beginning.” -
17:27 - 17:41So, Moses brought the law, in which
some things were permitted. -
17:41 - 17:47However, it wasn’t like that from the
beginning. So, why did Moses allow it? -
17:47 - 17:57Because their hearts were hard.
They couldn’t live up to God’s standard. -
17:57 - 18:02At that time the law was only written
on stone tablets. But Christ came. -
18:02 - 18:08He removed our hard hearts and
gave us new hearts of flesh. -
18:08 - 18:11He wrote His law on our hearts.
-
18:11 - 18:18Jesus’ law, words and teaching
are more perfect and holy. -
18:18 - 18:20He has a higher standard.
-
18:20 - 18:23There is a difference between
Jesus’ law and Moses’ law. -
18:23 - 18:26Jesus’ law is not about external
things like “Don’t touch! -
18:26 - 18:30Don’t taste! Don’t do this
and that!” It’s about love. -
18:30 - 18:37It’s about a heart transformation.
Colossians: -
18:37 - 18:44“Since you died with Christ to the
elemental spiritual forces of this world, -
18:44 - 18:50why, as though you still belonged to
the world, do you submit to its rules: -
18:50 - 18:55“Do not handle! Do not taste!
Do not touch!”? These rules, -
18:55 - 19:00which have to do with things that
are all destined to perish with use, -
19:00 - 19:05are based on merely human commands
and teachings.” Let me explain here. -
19:05 - 19:13“Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not
touch!” There is a higher standard. -
19:13 - 19:20Some people are very focussed on rules,
such as “Oh, you cannot eat this or that. -
19:20 - 19:27You cannot touch an unclean woman.
These people are unclean.” -
19:27 - 19:32All those things are done away
with in Christ. -
19:32 - 19:38But that doesn’t mean that
we are without a law. -
19:38 - 19:45We actually have a more perfect,
higher law. It starts with the heart. -
19:45 - 19:50I hope that this will become clearer
through the teaching. -
19:50 - 19:58I’ll come back to this as we move in
Lesson 6, my favourite lesson. -
19:58 - 20:05Today, we’ll look at Sarah and Hagar:
Freedom from Sin. -
20:05 - 20:11It will be a similar teaching to last
time but from a different angle. -
20:11 - 20:19I’ll focus on the difference between
these two covenants. I’m excited. -
20:19 - 20:22I’ll pray now and then continue.
-
20:22 - 20:28God, I pray for everyone who is watching
this lesson. You’ve opened my eyes. -
20:28 - 20:29I’m excited about this.
-
20:29 - 20:34I pray that they’ll be excited about it
too, God. Come with your Holy Spirit. -
20:34 - 20:37Open their eyes, God.
Help them to see this, God. -
20:37 - 20:42Help them to be set free to walk a
new life by the Spirit, God. -
20:42 - 20:50In the Name of Jesus. Amen. We
have looked at Moses recently. -
20:50 - 21:02In this lesson, we’ll go back to Abraham.
In Lesson 7, we’ll look at Moses again. -
21:02 - 21:05Lesson 8 will be about David
and the kingdom. -
21:05 - 21:10Here’s a scripture that I’ve read
several times already. -
21:10 - 21:18This time we’ll read further to understand
the bigger picture. Galatians 3: -
21:18 - 21:24“So in Christ Jesus you are all
children of God through faith, for -
21:24 - 21:29all of you who were baptized into Christ
have clothed yourselves with Christ. -
21:29 - 21:33There is neither Jew nor Gentile,
neither slave nor free, -
21:33 - 21:38nor is there male and female,
for you are all one in Christ Jesus. -
21:38 - 21:44If you belong to Christ,
then you are Abraham’s seed, -
21:44 - 21:49and heirs according to the
promise.” Abraham’s seed. -
21:49 - 21:57The people described here are
children, or offspring, of Abraham. -
21:57 - 22:07So, we have Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
-
22:07 - 22:14God is the God of Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob. -
22:14 - 22:20However, Isaac was not Abraham’s
firstborn in the natural. -
22:20 - 22:24In that sense, the firstborn was Ishmael.
-
22:24 - 22:28But God did not say “Abraham,
Ishmael and so on”. -
22:28 - 22:31He said “Abraham, Isaac and Jacob”.
-
22:31 - 22:35What happens when a
person’s baptized into Christ? -
22:35 - 22:45They become God’s child according
to Isaac's line, not Ishmael's line. -
22:45 - 22:49Now we’ll go back to something
very important in Genesis. -
22:49 - 22:54Genesis 15 describes
the Abrahamic covenant. -
22:54 - 23:01Abraham later had a family that became
a nation. We looked at that already. -
23:01 - 23:07However, chapter 16 seems
weird at first glance. -
23:07 - 23:11Suddenly, Abram has a child
through another woman. -
23:11 - 23:21God gave a promise to
Abram in Genesis 15. -
23:21 - 23:32In Genesis 16, Abram had sex with another
woman who had also become his wife. -
23:32 - 23:38At that time, Abraham and Sarah’s
names were ‘Abram’ and ‘Sarai’. -
23:38 - 23:43Genesis 16: “Now Sarai,
Abram’s wife had borne no children. -
23:43 - 23:47But she had an Egyptian
slave named Hagar; -
23:47 - 23:53So she said to Abram, “The LORD
has kept me from having children. -
23:53 - 24:01Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps
I can build a family through her.” -
24:01 - 24:06Abram agreed to what Sarai said.”
And then we read: -
24:06 - 24:11“So after Abram had been living in
Canaan ten years, -
24:11 - 24:18Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave
Hagar -
24:18 - 24:23and gave her to her husband
to be his wife.” -
24:23 - 24:30Here was Abram and Sarai.
Sarai had a slave woman. -
24:30 - 24:34She decided to give her slave to Abram,
so he could sleep with her. -
24:34 - 24:41Her slave could conceive and
Sarai could build a family through her. -
24:41 - 24:45“He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.”
-
24:45 - 24:51I know this story is very weird for us
to read. But it’s very important. -
24:51 - 24:52There is a message here.
-
24:52 - 25:00So, I encourage you to read
the whole story by yourself. -
25:00 - 25:02Hagar conceived.
-
25:02 - 25:09She then started to mistreat her
mistress, because she’d conceived. -
25:09 - 25:14She felt, she was more worthy than
her mistress, who had no children. -
25:14 - 25:24There was a big fight between Hagar and
Sarai. Later, Ishmael and Isaac were born. -
25:24 - 25:39Chapter 17: “God also said to
Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, -
25:39 - 25:45you are no longer to call her Sarai;
her name will be Sarah. -
25:45 - 25:52I will bless her and will surely
give you a son by her.” -
25:52 - 26:06So, Abram had a son by Hagar.
Then God said, “No, I’ll bless Sarah, -
26:06 - 26:13and give you a son by her.
The covenant is through Sarah, not Hagar. -
26:13 - 26:20“I will bless her so that she will
be the mother of nations; -
26:20 - 26:23kings of peoples will come from her.”
-
26:23 - 26:29It is the same for God’s sons and
daughters of Abraham by faith, today. -
26:29 - 26:35They come from Abraham and
Sarah’s line, not Abraham and Hagar’s. -
26:35 - 26:46I encourage to read that whole story
by yourself. God confirms this here: -
26:46 - 26:52“Then God said, “Yes,
but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, -
26:52 - 26:55and you will call him Isaac.
-
26:55 - 27:01I will establish my covenant
with him as an everlasting covenant -
27:01 - 27:03for his descendants after him.”
-
27:03 - 27:12So, the covenant is with Isaac.
“And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: -
27:12 - 27:14I will surely bless him;
-
27:14 - 27:19I will make him fruitful and
will greatly increase his numbers. -
27:19 - 27:25He will be the father of twelve rulers,
and I will make him into a great nation.” -
27:25 - 27:33So, God still blessed Ishmael. “But
my covenant I will establish with Isaac, -
27:33 - 27:38whom Sarah will bear to you
by this time next year.” -
27:38 - 27:52God blessed Ishmael, Abraham’s son,
but didn’t establish a covenant with him. -
27:52 - 27:59The covenant was with Isaac.
That’s very important. -
27:59 - 28:03Chapter 21 describes how Isaac was born.
-
28:03 - 28:12Sarah conceived and bore Abraham
a son in his old age. -
28:12 - 28:15Abraham called him, Isaac.
-
28:15 - 28:19Please read this really beautiful
whole story by yourself. -
28:19 - 28:27But, as soon as Isaac was born,
there was a conflict and fight: -
28:27 - 28:35“And Sarah saw the son of
Hagar the Egyptian, -
28:35 - 28:44which she had borne unto
Abraham, mocking (Isaac).” -
28:44 - 28:47So, there was a conflict between
Ishmael and Isaac: -
28:47 - 28:51“Wherefore she said unto Abraham,
“Cast out this bondwoman” -
28:51 - 28:57or slave woman “and her son”
Get rid of the slave woman and her son. -
28:57 - 29:05“For the son of this bondwoman shall not
be heir with my son, even with Isaac.” -
29:05 - 29:11Here we can see the gospel.
This is truly amazing. -
29:11 - 29:16Perhaps you view these chapters
of Genesis only as a story. -
29:16 - 29:22It's about Abraham, Hagar,
Sarah, Ishmael and Isaac. -
29:22 - 29:24A story about the slave and free women.
-
29:24 - 29:29But actually, this is all about
the gospel. -
29:29 - 29:34Remember, the early disciples preached
the gospel from the Old Testament. -
29:34 - 29:42Notice these words, especially:
“Cast out this bondwoman” -
29:42 - 29:46Cast out that slave woman “and her son:
-
29:46 - 29:51for the son of this bondwoman
shall not be heir with my son” -
29:51 - 29:59So, there are two lines here. One:
Abraham, Hagar and Ishmael. -
29:59 - 30:09Two: Abraham, Sarah and Isaac.
Only one of these lines will inherit. -
30:09 - 30:16The other will not. We also see these
two lines in the world today. -
30:16 - 30:24Isaac’s physical descendants
are the Jewish people. -
30:24 - 30:41In Christ, we’ve become part of this.
Ishmael’s descendants are the Arab people. -
30:41 - 30:52In Islamic tradition, Ishmael is often
viewed as the prophet Muhammads' ancestor. -
30:52 - 31:01This links him to many Arab tribes.
-
31:01 - 31:05So, here we see something
extremely interesting. -
31:05 - 31:12In Genesis, we read about world history
including the present time. -
31:12 - 31:24Consider the Arab people
and the religion of Islam today. -
31:24 - 31:28Consider the fight between them
and the Jewish people today. -
31:28 - 31:41Then read what Genesis 16 and 17
says about Ishmael and Islam: -
31:41 - 31:47“He” Ishmael “will be a wild
donkey of a man; -
31:47 - 31:53his hand will be against everyone
and everyone’s hand against him, -
31:53 - 31:59and he will live in hostility
toward all his brothers.” -
31:59 - 32:10Doesn’t that describe Islam today?
Islam is like a wild donkey. -
32:10 - 32:16Islam is against everyone and
everyone is against them. -
32:16 - 32:25Whom do they live in hostility towards?
Their brothers, the Jewish nation. -
32:25 - 32:36Islam has so much hatred. Look at a
world map. Israel is a small country. -
32:36 - 32:46The countries all around are Islamic
and hate Israel. God also said: -
32:46 - 32:52“I will make him a great nation…
and will greatly increase his numbers.” -
32:52 - 32:58We see that. “He will be the
father of twelve rulers” -
32:58 - 33:06Rulers from the Arab nations
are implementing Islam. -
33:06 - 33:10God spoke about twelve rulers.
It’s extremely interesting. -
33:10 - 33:18But let’s read here: “But my covenant
I will establish with Isaac” -
33:18 - 33:24I think that one of the main
problems is jealousy: -
33:24 - 33:33God established His covenant
with Isaac, not Ishmael. -
33:33 - 33:38We also saw jealousy in Joseph’s
brothers. God called Joseph. -
33:38 - 33:42His brothers became jealous
and threw him into a pit. -
33:42 - 33:48Jealousy is very destructive
and damaging. -
33:48 - 33:56When we consider this, history, and
the two lines, it’s extremely interesting. -
33:56 - 34:01Listen here: The Bible explains
the world we are all living in: -
34:01 - 34:06From creation to this present age
and into the age to come. -
34:06 - 34:10Then Jesus will return to bring
salvation to those who await Him. -
34:10 - 34:15He'll establish the Kingdom of God
here on earth. Your kingdom come. -
34:15 - 34:19According the Lord’s prayer, how
should we pray: Your kingdom come. -
34:19 - 34:21Your will be done on earth
as it is in heaven. -
34:21 - 34:28This is not just a spiritual kingdom
as many people think. -
34:28 - 34:30No, it’s a physical kingdom.
-
34:30 - 34:36The heavenly Jerusalem will
come down here on earth. -
34:36 - 34:40Right now, God’s will is happening in
heaven, but not fully on earth. -
34:40 - 34:47But later, God’s will is going to happen
on earth through Christ, the son of David. -
34:47 - 34:52He’ll rule here on earth. We’ll look at
that later, and study David. -
34:52 - 34:59We look forward to the new heaven
and earth and Eden’s restoration. -
34:59 - 35:07The Bible describes all those things:
Our past, present, and future. -
35:07 - 35:16The Bible is one story. It describes our
past, our present time and our future. -
35:16 - 35:20There are two roads throughout the Bible.
-
35:20 - 35:25This goes back to the woman’s seed
and Satan’s seed. -
35:25 - 35:32There are two roads: one that leads to
death and the other that leads to life. -
35:32 - 35:38Which one are you walking on? The story
of Abraham shows this clearly. -
35:38 - 35:44Abraham had two wives.
Their two sons became two peoples. -
35:44 - 35:48Here are two roads,
that actually represent two covenants. -
35:48 - 35:54We’ll look at that.
The two sons represent two peoples: -
35:54 - 35:59One people are the followers of
Islam, who aren’t God’s people. -
35:59 - 36:08This represents religions of the
world as a whole. -
36:08 - 36:14The other people are Israel, God’s people.
These don’t follow a religion. -
36:14 - 36:18In our case, we have a relationship
with Christ. -
36:18 - 36:22This is for them who are called out
and aren’t part of this world. -
36:22 - 36:26Now, we’ll move on to the
New Testament. -
36:26 - 36:32You’ll see something interesting from
lots of New Testament scriptures. -
36:32 - 36:41I’ll pick out some words,
that identify these things: -
36:41 - 36:49Two roads, two wives, two
sons and two covenants. -
36:49 - 36:59Later, I’ll put it all together to help
you see a very clear picture: -
36:59 - 37:10What are those two roads, two covenants
and two people? Galatians 4: -
37:10 - 37:16“Tell me, you who want to be
under the law, -
37:16 - 37:24are you not aware of what the law
says?” Paul gave the Galatians a warning. -
37:24 - 37:33He wrote that they mustn’t go under
the law again, that enslaved them before. -
37:33 - 37:38This teaching is for people, who
want to go under the law. -
37:38 - 37:44Paul writes about the two wives.
“Tell me, you want to be under the law, -
37:44 - 37:47are you not aware of what the law says?
-
37:47 - 37:54For it is written that Abraham had two
sons” from two different wives. -
37:54 - 37:57Why does Paul write about that?
-
37:57 - 38:03“Abraham had two sons, one by the slave
woman and the other by the free woman. -
38:03 - 38:09His son by the slave woman was born
according to the flesh, -
38:09 - 38:17but his son by the free woman was born
as the result of a divine promise.” -
38:17 - 38:18One according to the flesh.
-
38:18 - 38:20The other as a result
of a divine promise. -
38:20 - 38:31These things are being taken figuratively:
The women represent two covenants. -
38:31 - 38:38One covenant is from Mount Sinai" -
that is where Moses came -
38:38 - 38:43that "bears children who are to
be slaves: This is Hagar.” -
38:43 - 38:45This describes two covenants.
-
38:45 - 38:52“Now Hagar stands for
Mount Sinai in Arabia -
38:52 - 38:58and corresponds to the
present city of Jerusalem, -
38:58 - 39:02because she is in slavery
with her children.” -
39:02 - 39:11This may seem strange for you at first.
At Mount Sinai, Moses came with the law. -
39:11 - 39:18Hagar represents that, which is
also the present Jerusalem. -
39:18 - 39:27“But the Jerusalem that is above
is free, and she is our mother.” -
39:27 - 39:33This describes Sarah. “She is
our mother. For it is written: -
39:33 - 39:38“Be glad, barren woman, you
who never bore a child; -
39:38 - 39:43shout for joy and cry aloud, you
who were never in labour; -
39:43 - 39:50because more are the children
of the desolate woman -
39:50 - 39:53than of her who has a husband.”
-
39:53 - 40:02Now you, brothers and sisters, like
Isaac, are children of promise.” -
40:02 - 40:12Let’s put it together: Abraham had
two sons, representing two covenants. -
40:12 - 40:18Hagar was a slave woman.
-
40:18 - 40:24That covenant is according
to the flesh, the natural. -
40:24 - 40:37That speaks of Mount Sinai in Arabia and
the law of Moses. Hagar was a slave. -
40:37 - 40:48But there was another woman, another
covenant. Sarah was a free woman. -
40:48 - 40:52Her son was the result
of a divine promise. -
40:52 - 40:58He wasn't born according to the flesh
and the natural. It was supernatural. -
40:58 - 41:02That speaks of Mount Zion,
not Mount Sinai. -
41:02 - 41:10Actually there is a teaching section
about this in the kingdom book: -
41:10 - 41:16Mount Sinai and Mount Zion. This shows
the difference between the two. -
41:16 - 41:19I didn’t include that in this
online kingdom school. -
41:19 - 41:23You’ll have to read that in the book.
Sarah was free. -
41:23 - 41:31In Galatians so far, Paul has written
about the two women and their two sons. -
41:31 - 41:36One is free; the other a slave. One
is supernatural; the other is natural. -
41:36 - 41:40One is Mount Sinai;
the other is Mount Zion. -
41:40 - 41:45One is an earthly present Jerusalem;
the other is the heavenly Jerusalem. -
41:45 - 41:49One is free; the other is a slave.
-
41:49 - 41:59“At that time the son born according
to the flesh persecuted the son -
41:59 - 42:06born by the power of the Spirit”.
We already read about that persecution. -
42:06 - 42:11The same happens today.
“But what does Scripture say? -
42:11 - 42:17“Get rid of the slave woman and her son,
-
42:17 - 42:22for the slave woman’s son will
never share in the inheritance -
42:22 - 42:26with the free woman’s son.”
-
Not SyncedTherefore, brothers and sisters, we
are not children of the slave woman, -
Not Syncedbut of the free woman.”
Why did Paul write about that? -
Not SyncedAt that point in time, there was a church
in Galatia, many years after Abraham. -
Not SyncedPaul warned them against going
under the law. -
Not SyncedHe taught them, referring to Abraham,
his wives and children. -
Not SyncedHe explained how Abraham sent Hagar
and Ishmael away. -
Not SyncedSarah told him to send the slave woman
and her son away: -
Not Synced“Her son shall not inherit with my son”.
This is a picture. -
Not SyncedIt points to Christ, the New Covenant,
the promise and our salvation. Why? -
Not SyncedBecause those two women represent
two covenants. -
Not SyncedThose two sons represent two peoples.
-
Not SyncedOne people will remain as slaves
and will never inherit. -
Not SyncedWe need to get rid of them. The other
people will remain free and inherit. -
Not SyncedIt’s extremely important. Here it is:
Two covenants. -
Not SyncedOne is described thus: Slave. Mount
Sinai in Arabia. Earthly, not heavenly. -
Not SyncedI have a teaching relating to this in
the kingdom book. -
Not SyncedI’m working on the book right now.
Soon it’ll come out. It’s called: -
Not Synced‘Pictures and shadows’.
-
Not SyncedOn Mount Sinai, Moses saw a picture
and shadow of the heavenly Jerusalem. -
Not SyncedShe’ll come down one day. Here are
other pictures and shadows: -
Not Syncedthe tabernacle, the tent of meeting,
the sacrifices and the offerings. -
Not SyncedThese earthly things are pictures
and shadows of heavenly things. -
Not SyncedJesus, the high priest.
-
Not SyncedHe didn’t go into the earthly temple
or tent, but into the heavenly. -
Not SyncedHe didn’t take the blood of goats and
animals, but his own blood. -
Not SyncedJesus went to the heavenly one, Mount
Zion. This will come down from heaven. -
Not SyncedThen, God’s kingdom will be established
here on earth. -
Not SyncedMoses and the law are shadows and
pictures of heavenly things. -
Not SyncedThe present Jerusalem also is.
We love Israel and Jerusalem. -
Not SyncedJerusalem is David’s city,
part of his kingdom. -
Not SyncedBut have you been to Jerusalem?
I have. It’s full of sin. -
Not SyncedIt’s not what it was supposed to be.
-
Not SyncedBut one day, something else
will descend from heaven. -
Not SyncedOne son was born by the flesh,
the natural, what we see. -
Not SyncedThat son won’t share in the
inheritance. He isn’t God’s child. -
Not SyncedThat represents one covenant.
The other is free. -
Not SyncedChrist has purchased us for freedom.
That is the heavenly Mount Zion. -
Not SyncedWe are seated with Christ
in the heavenlies. -
Not SyncedThe heavenly Jerusalem is
described in Revelation. -
Not SyncedShe will descend from heaven
as a beautiful bride. -
Not SyncedThat son was born by the power
of the Holy Spirit. -
Not SyncedWe cannot enter into the kingdom
of God, unless we’re born from above. -
Not SyncedWe’re already born in the natural.
-
Not SyncedHowever, we need to be born from
above by the Holy Spirit’s power. -
Not SyncedThose will inherit. If we’re baptised into
Christ, we’re the seed of Abraham. -
Not SyncedAbraham’s sons. We’ll inherit the
promise. Now we’re God’s children. -
Not SyncedHallelujah! Galatians 5: “It is for
freedom that Christ has set us free. -
Not SyncedStand firm, then, and do not let
yourselves be burdened again” -
Not Synced- don’t go back under the law -
“by a yoke of slavery.” -
Not SyncedEven if you’ve experienced freedom,
you can return to slavery. -
Not SyncedI’ve seen many do that. Remain free!
Don’t go back under slavery. -
Not Synced“Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that
if you let yourselves be circumcised, -
Not SyncedChrist will be of no value
to you at all.” -
Not SyncedI know that many under the law
today aren’t circumcised. (??) -
Not SyncedBut sadly, I know those
who were free in Christ. -
Not SyncedThen they started to go under the law.
-
Not SyncedThey focussed on human rules and
not on the new covenant. -
Not SyncedSome of them said before,
they’d never be circumcised. -
Not SyncedBut finally, they got circumcised.
-
Not SyncedIf you start going under the law,
you’ll be enslaved: -
Not Synced“Again I declare to every man who
lets himself be circumcised -
Not Syncedthat he is obligated to obey
the whole law. -
Not SyncedYou who are trying to justified by
the law have been alienated from Christ; -
Not Syncedyou have fallen away from grace.”
Here we can see these words: Freedom. -
Not SyncedJustified by the law. Fallen away
from grace. John said: -
Not Synced“And of his fullness have we all
received, and grace for grace. -
Not SyncedFor the law was given by Moses, but
grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” -
Not SyncedMoses brought the law.
Jesus brought grace and truth. -
Not SyncedI hope that you can see that.
The truth will set you free. -
Not SyncedThe true grace will set you free.
Grace is not a cover up for sin. -
Not SyncedGrace is an empowerment
to live a holy life. -
Not SyncedThe law said one thing
but Jesus said another thing. -
Not SyncedThe law said,
“You must not commit adultery.” -
Not SyncedJesus said, “You may
not look with lust on a woman.” -
Not SyncedBut in my flesh, I can’t do that.
Who can live like that? -
Not SyncedIf we understand and walk in grace,
we can experience freedom. Why? -
Not SyncedBecause the true grace sets us free and
teaches us. It’s not a cover up of sin. -
Not SyncedThis grace teaches us to live in
holiness. What did Titus write here: -
Not Synced“For the grace of God has appeared
that offers salvation to all people. -
Not SyncedIt teaches us to say “No”” -
God’s grace teaches us. -
Not SyncedThis is the Spirit of grace, the Holy
Spirit. What does He teach us? -
Not Synced- “to say “No” to ungodliness
and worldly passions, -
Not Syncedand to live self-controlled, upright
and godly lives in this present age.” -
Not SyncedThe law couldn’t do this. But Christ
did it, through God’s grace. -
Not SyncedWe’ve received the Spirit of grace.
-
Not SyncedHe teaches us to live holy
in this present age. -
Not Synced“while we wait for the blessed hope
-
Not Synced– the appearing of the glory of our
great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, -
Not Syncedwho gave himself for us to redeem
us from all wickedness -
Not Syncedand to purify for himself a people
that are his very own”, -
Not Synced- this is the church, the called-out.
He redeemed us from this wicked world. -
Not SyncedNoah built the ark, while the
world continued in wickedness. -
Not SyncedWe are called-out - “to purify for
himself that are his very own, -
Not Syncedeager to do what is good.”
-
Not SyncedThe law came through Moses, but
grace and truth came through Christ. -
Not SyncedBut now, there is fake teaching
about grace all over the world. -
Not SyncedIt’s a wrong understanding of grace.
-
Not SyncedPeople think that being under grace,
means that they can live in sin. -
Not SyncedNo, you can live free from sin
because you’re under grace. -
Not SyncedYou cannot do that, under the law.
But under grace you can. -
Not SyncedTherefore, the law couldn’t do this,
because of sin. But Christ did it. -
Not SyncedAt the start of Lesson 6, we read this:
-
Not SyncedThe law allowed certain things
because of the hardness of heart. -
Not SyncedBut then Christ dealt
with the hardness of heart. -
Not SyncedHe gave us a new heart with
the law written inside. -
Not SyncedHe gave us a new spirit: The Spirit of
grace that teaches us to live holy lives. -
Not SyncedThose people will inherit the promise.
They’re born of the free woman. -
Not SyncedThis’ll become clearer as we continue.
-
Not SyncedIn Galatians 3, we read that
we’re baptized into Christ. -
Not SyncedThen, we belong to Christ.
-
Not SyncedWe become Abraham’s seed or sons,
heirs according to the promise. -
Not SyncedThis time, we’ll read further:
-
Not Synced“What I am saying is that
as long as an heir is underage, -
Not Syncedhe is no different from a slave,
although he owns the whole estate. -
Not SyncedThe heir is subject to guardians and
trustees until the time set by his father. -
Not SyncedWhy did Paul write about this?
“So also, when we were underage, -
Not Syncedwe were in slavery under the elemental
spiritual forces of the world. -
Not SyncedBut when the set time had fully come,
God sent his Son, born of a woman, -
Not Syncedborn under the law, to redeem
those under the law, -
Not Syncedthat we might receive adoption
to sonship.” -
Not SyncedSo, before we were baptized into
Christ, we were underage. -
Not SyncedThen, we weren’t heirs to the promise.
-
Not SyncedWe were slaves, under a trustee
or guardian. We were under the law. -
Not SyncedBut now, we’re not slaves but sons.
-
Not SyncedThere’s a difference between
being a slave and being a son. -
Not SyncedHere are lots of pictures. I really pray
that God will reveal this to you. -
Not SyncedIn Christ “we receive adoption
to sonship” -
Not SyncedPaul: “Because you are his sons”
– and daughters - -
Not Synced“God has sent the Spirit
of his Son into our hearts, -
Not Syncedthe Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
-
Not SyncedSo, you are no longer a slave,
but God’s child; -
Not Syncedand since you are his child,
God has made you also an heir.” -
Not SyncedWhy did Paul write about
sons and heirs? -
Not SyncedWhy did he write about a guardian, a
trustee, being underage and being mature? -
Not SyncedBecause they are pictures
pointing towards our reality. -
Not SyncedWe were under the law until the
set time when Christ came. -
Not SyncedThen we became Christ’s.
-
Not SyncedNow, we don’t need that law,
that guardian anymore. Why? -
Not SyncedBecause we’re now sons. We’ve received
His Spirit, because we are sons. -
Not SyncedTo say it another way:
-
Not SyncedWe were locked up
under the law (as slaves). -
Not SyncedThen Christ set us free from
the law (so we are no longer slaves). -
Not SyncedWe needed a guardian until Christ.
-
Not SyncedThe law is good, if we use
the law the right way. -
Not SyncedIt’s for sinners and lawbreakers.
-
Not SyncedBut when we’re in Christ,
we don’t need that law anymore. -
Not SyncedWe have a new law, written on our hearts.
-
Not SyncedThe Spirit of grace teaches us
to live holy lives. -
Not SyncedChrist set us free from the law, so
we are no longer slaves but children: -
Not SyncedFree to walk by the Spirit.
So, if you are born again: -
Not SyncedYou are no longer a slave (under the law,
in need of guardians and trustees). -
Not SyncedYou're God’s child. You are now
a SON (or daughter). -
Not SyncedTherefore, you're an heir
of God through Christ. -
Not SyncedThe law is a guardian UNTIL a set time.
-
Not SyncedWhen the set time had fully
come, the FATHER sent His Son. -
Not SyncedHe was born of a woman,
born under the law. -
Not SyncedHe came to redeem those
under the law (YOU AND I). -
Not SyncedSo, we might receive adoption to sonship.
-
Not SyncedSo, that is what Jesus
came to accomplish? -
Not SyncedHowever, some people don’t
know what it means to be in Christ. -
Not SyncedThey don’t understand the
new life by the Spirit. -
Not SyncedInstead, they want to follow human
rules that enslave many people. -
Not SyncedMany people in the church love
giving rules, instead of the Spirit. -
Not SyncedExternal rules can’t bring freedom,
but the Spirit can. -
Not SyncedI mentioned last time what Paul
wrote: “I myself am not under the law” -
Not Synced– but later he wrote -
-
Not Synced“though I am not without law to
God, but under Christ’s law” -
Not SyncedSo, we’re not lawless, without a law.
-
Not SyncedAt the time, we’re not under
Moses’ law, but under Christ’s law. -
Not SyncedThe law is spiritual. The one who
sins, becomes a slave of sin. -
Not SyncedThis is like the law of gravity.
If I drop something, it’ll fall down. -
Not SyncedIt is similar with the law.
-
Not SyncedIf we try to keep the law,
we’ll keep falling. -
Not SyncedIt doesn't matter how many
times we try to stand up. Why? -
Not SyncedBecause being under the law,
doesn’t bring us freedom. -
Not SyncedWe need to understand these things:
-
Not SyncedWhat does it mean to be a son, in Christ?
To be free from the law of Moses. -
Not SyncedTo walk by the Spirit today.
-
Not SyncedThen, suddenly the law won’t have
power over us anymore. -
Not SyncedWe’ll not be enslaved, but
live in freedom. Let’s continue. -
Not SyncedI still have many more things
to share in this lesson: -
Not SyncedChrist came to purify
a people for Himself. -
Not SyncedThe law was in effect until Christ
came, as we needed guardians. -
Not SyncedThe law is good if you use
the law the right way. -
Not SyncedBut now that we are in Christ,
we are adopted as sons. -
Not SyncedHe proved this by removing
our stony hearts, giving us His Spirit. -
Not SyncedThe Spirit of grace who teaches us.
God writes the law on our hearts. -
Not SyncedNow, we no longer need guardians.
The law of Moses is no longer needed. -
Not SyncedThat's because we have the Spirit.
-
Not SyncedWe can walk by the Spirit
under the law of Christ: -
Not SyncedThis is God’s Word that's written
on our hearts, free from sin. -
Not SyncedThe Truth will set you free.
Are you a slave or a son? -
Not SyncedJesus also used the pictures
of sons and slaves. -
Not SyncedIn John 8, he talked to the Jews:
-
Not Synced“Jesus spoke to the Jews
who had believed him. -
Not Synced“If you obey my teaching,” he said,”
-
Not SyncedBelieving is not enough, but also
obedience to Jesus’ teaching. -
Not Synced“you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth. -
Not SyncedAnd the truth will set you free.”
The truth will set you free. -
Not SyncedJesus told the Jews this:
-
Not SyncedIf they followed Him and His
teaching, they’d know the truth. -
Not SyncedThe truth will set them free. To be
free is the opposite of being a slave. -
Not Synced“They answered him,
“We are Abraham’s children.” -
Not SyncedThey didn’t understand.
“We have never been slaves of anyone. -
Not SyncedSo how can you say that
that we will be set free?” -
Not SyncedFrom a human perspective,
they weren’t slaves. -
Not Synced“Jesus replied, “What I’m
about to tell you is true.” -
Not SyncedIt might be hard to
understand this truth. -
Not Synced“Everyone who sins is a slave of sin.”
-
Not SyncedEveryone who sins, or continues
to sin, is a slave to sin. -
Not Synced“A slave has no lasting place
in the family.” -
Not SyncedRemember Ishmael, the slave
woman’s son, who was sent away. -
Not Synced“But a son” – Isaac and those who
are born again and baptized into Christ. -
Not SyncedThose who’ve received the
Spirit and walk by the Spirit -
Not Synced- “belongs to the family forever.
-
Not SyncedSo, if the Son of Man sets you
free, you will really be free.” -
Not SyncedI know that there’s lots here to process.
-
Not SyncedAbraham’s children and heirs
are in Sarah’s, not Hagar’s. -
Not SyncedHagar’s offspring are described
here: Not heirs. -
Not SyncedSlaves to sin, who’ll not remain
in the house forever. -
Not SyncedSarah’s offspring are described
here: Sons and heirs. Free from sin. -
Not SyncedThey’ll remain in the house forever.
-
Not SyncedSome of you are hearing these
things for the first time. -
Not SyncedPlease watch this lesson again and again,
to really understand these pictures. -
Not SyncedHere’s a good time for a break.
-
Not SyncedAfterwards, we’ll move on from
Galatians to Romans. -
Not SyncedWe’ll read some of the verses
from last time. -
Not SyncedThis time, we’ll focus on freedom
from sin and walking by the Spirit. -
Not SyncedYou’ll understand the two covenants.
-
Not SyncedYou’ll see the difference between trying
to live under the law or by the Spirit. -
Not SyncedAt the end, I’ll put it all together.
-
Not SyncedI’ll show the two covenants side
by side, and headings under them. -
Not SyncedYou’ll see a big difference.
-
Not SyncedEach of us then need to ask
ourselves: how do I live? -
Not SyncedAm I walking on the broad road
or on the narrow road? -
Not SyncedSadly, many people in the church
are walking on the broad road. -
Not SyncedEven though, they’re in church,
they’re still slaves. They’re not free. -
Not SyncedWe need to be free from sin:
-
Not SyncedSlaves won’t remain in the house
forever, but the sons will. -
Not SyncedThe one whom the Son sets
free, shall be free indeed. -
Not SyncedSo, let’s take a break
and then return again. -
Not Synced[Music]
-
Not SyncedOkay, we’re back again. Look here:
Dead to sin but alive to God. -
Not SyncedNow, we’ll look at Romans, some
of which we looked at before. -
Not SyncedThis is extremely important.
-
Not SyncedIt shouldn’t only give you theology, but
help you to be free to walk by the Spirit. -
Not SyncedIt should help you walk in freedom
and inherit the promise, in the end. -
Not SyncedYou need to be on the right road.
-
Not SyncedBut many people have misunderstood
grace, as they also did in Paul’s time. -
Not SyncedPaul quoted someone else’s question
here in Romans: -
Not Synced“What shall we say, then? Shall we go
on sinning so that grace may increase?” -
Not SyncedNo! How can you think that?
“By no means!” -
Not SyncedBut, some people thought that
as people think today. -
Not SyncedThey say: “Oh, I’m under grace. I can go
on sinning. God’s grace will increase” -
Not Synced“By no means! We are those who
have died to sin;” -
Not SyncedThose who are truly born again should
see themselves like this: -
Not SyncedThey have died to sin – “how can we
live in it any longer?” Paul continues: -
Not Synced“Or don’t you know that all of us who
were baptized into Christ Jesus -
Not Syncedwere baptized into his death?”
-
Not SyncedThis is the death, we also read
about in Galatians 3. -
Not Synced“We were therefore buried with him
through baptism into death in order that, -
Not Syncedjust as Christ was raised from the dead
through the glory of the Father, -
Not Syncedwe too may live a new life.” So, be
baptized into Christ’s death. -
Not SyncedWhy? So that you can live a new life.
What is that life? -
Not SyncedA transition occurs here: we are no longer
slaves, but we’re adopted as sons. -
Not SyncedThis happens when we repent, are baptised
in water and receive the Holy Spirit: -
Not Synced“For if we have been united with him
in a death like his, -
Not Syncedwe will certainly also be united with him
in a resurrection like his.” -
Not SyncedThe Holy Spirit does this.
-
Not SyncedHe raises us from death, and makes
us alive with Christ. “For we know -
Not Syncedthat our old self was crucified
with him so that the body ruled by sin” -
Not SyncedThis body is ruled by sin. The one
who sins becomes a slave to sin. -
Not Synced- “might be done away with”
- What happens here? -
Not SyncedThe body, enslaved to sin,
is done away with -
Not Synced– “that we should no longer
be slaves to sin. -
Not SyncedBecause anyone who has died
has been set free from sin. -
Not SyncedNow if we died with Christ, we believe
that we will also live with him. -
Not SyncedFor we know that since Christ was raised
from the dead, he cannot die again; -
Not Synceddeath no longer has mastery over him.
-
Not SyncedThe death he died, he died
to sin once for all; -
Not Syncedbut the life he lives,
he lives to God.” -
Not SyncedLet’s continue. I love Romans 6:
-
Not Synced“In the same way, count
yourselves dead to sin” -
Not SyncedHowever, as a believer, I was told:
-
Not Synced“We are slaves to sin. Sin has power
over us. We can’t do anything about it.” -
Not SyncedIf you have that mindset, you will
live in that reality. Paul wrote this: -
Not SyncedBorn-again believers shouldn’t
count themselves as slaves to sin. -
Not SyncedThey should count themselves “dead
to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” -
Not SyncedTherefore” – considering
yourselves dead to sin - -
Not SyncedDo not offer any part of yourself
to sin” - Don’t do that! -
Not Synced- “as an instrument of wickedness,
but rather offer yourselves to God -
Not Syncedas those who have been brought
from death to life; -
Not Syncedand offer every part of yourself to him
as an instrument of righteousness.” -
Not SyncedWe can either being an instrument
of sin or an instrument of righteousness. -
Not SyncedHere, we have the two roads again.
Each one leads to something different: -
Not SyncedThe road of sin and the road
of righteousness: -
Not Synced“For sin shall no longer
be your master,” -
Not Synced- You shouldn’t be a slave
to sin anymore. Why? - -
Not Synced“because you are not under
the law but under grace.” -
Not SyncedPeople under the law, are slaves.
-
Not SyncedThey aren’t sons who’ll inherit
and remain in the house. -
Not SyncedThey are slaves, who’ll be cast out.
This is why we need to be born again. -
Not SyncedFrom that point, we’re no longer slaves
under this elemental rules of this world. -
Not SyncedWe die to this world, by going
into the baptismal waters. -
Not SyncedThose who are baptised into Christ,
belong to Christ. -
Not SyncedThey’ve received a new heart and
God’s Spirit, the Spirit of grace. -
Not SyncedThe law is written on our hearts
by the Spirit of grace. -
Not SyncedHe teaches us to live in freedom.
There’s so much here: -
Not SyncedSin shall not be your master,
because you aren’t under the law. -
Not SyncedBut if you try to live under the law, my
friend, you will feel like a slave again. -
Not SyncedSo, don’t go there. Instead, live
under grace and be free. Hallelujah! -
Not SyncedThis is good. So, under the law
you’re a slave and sin’s your master. -
Not SyncedUnder grace, you’re free and
sin isn’t your master. -
Not SyncedOh I remember when I first
understood this. -
Not SyncedMany years ago, I was in my office.
I realised: “I’m free. Hallelujah! -
Not SyncedEverything that I was told was a lie.
-
Not SyncedThey told me that I was just a
sinner who can’t do anything. -
Not SyncedNo, the Bible doesn’t say that.
The Bible says that we were sinners. -
Not SyncedNow the Bible describes us as saints.
-
Not SyncedWe can’t do this in our own strength
but we can in Christ. -
Not SyncedWhom were the letters to Ephesus
and other cities addressed to? -
Not Synced‘The saints’, not ‘the sinners’. We must
count ourselves dead to sin. -
Not SyncedWe must understand what true grace
is and does: “What then? -
Not SyncedShall we sin because we are not under
the law but under grace? -
Not SyncedBy no means! Don’t you know that
when you offer yourselves to someone -
Not Syncedas obedient slaves, you are slaves
of the one you obey” -
Not SyncedSo, you’re a slave of the one you obey -
“whether you are slaves to sin, -
Not Syncedwhich leads to death, or to obedience,
which leads to righteousness?” -
Not SyncedHere we see two roads.
-
Not SyncedOne road is slavery to sin, a broad
road that leads to death. -
Not SyncedThe other road is freedom from sin and
obedience, that leads to righteousness. -
Not SyncedHere are the two roads.
“But thanks be to God -
Not Syncedthat, though you used” - past
tense - “to be slaves to sin” -
Not Synced- this applies to all of us - “you
have come to obey from your heart” -
Not Synced– with a new heart - “the
teachings you were given! -
Not SyncedYou have been set free from sin and
have become slaves to righteousness.” -
Not SyncedWe can’t live anymore like we used to,
when we were on the broad road. -
Not SyncedNow, we’re on a different road.
-
Not Synced“I am using an example from everyday
life because of your human limitations. -
Not SyncedJust as you used to offer yourselves
as slaves to impurity -
Not Syncedand to ever-increasing wickedness,
-
Not Syncedso now offer yourselves as slaves
to righteousness leading to holiness. -
Not SyncedWhen you were slaves”
- past tense - “to sin, -
Not Syncedyou were free from the control
of righteousness.” -
Not SyncedWhen you were a slave to sin,
you did what the flesh wants. -
Not SyncedYou followed your heart’s
evil desires. -
Not Synced“What benefit did you reap at that time
from the things you are now ashamed of?” -
Not SyncedI’m ashamed of my past actions and sins.
-
Not Synced“Those things result in death!
But now” – Hallelujah! - -
Not Synced“that you have been set free from sin
and have become slaves to God, -
Not Syncedthe benefit you reap, leads to holiness,
and the result is eternal life. -
Not SyncedFor the wages of sin is death,
-
Not Syncedbut the gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -
Not SyncedSo, there are two roads, my friends.
-
Not SyncedOne road is slavery sin, that leads
to impurity. Its result is death. -
Not SyncedThe other road is freedom from sin,
that leads to holiness. -
Not SyncedIts result is eternal life.
-
Not SyncedI see that many Christians in the
church are on the broad road. -
Not SyncedThat road leads to death.
They’re still slaves to sin. -
Not SyncedThey haven’t understood the new birth
and what it means to be a son. -
Not SyncedThey don’t understand what the
Spirit of grace actually does. -
Not SyncedThis is really sad to see.
The one who sins becomes a slave to sin. -
Not SyncedIn this world, we used to be slaves
to sin, held captive under the law. -
Not SyncedBut in baptism, we died and are
now free from the law that said: -
Not Synced“Don’t touch! Don’t taste!
Don’t do this and that!” -
Not SyncedThe law of sin and death worked in
our bodies, and the sin bound us. -
Not SyncedBut now, we’re free to live a new life.
We’re free to marry somebody else. -
Not SyncedPaul continues. I read this already
but I want you now to understand it more. -
Not SyncedPaul wrote about marriage. Why?
-
Not SyncedBecause it’s an illustration of
how the law works and death. -
Not Synced“Do you not know, brothers and sisters
-
Not Synced- for I am talking to those
that know the law -
Not Synced- that the law have authority over
a person as long as he lives?” -
Not SyncedYou can’t be free from the law and
live a new life, in your own strength. -
Not SyncedThe only way forward is to die.
-
Not SyncedAs long as you live with a body of sin,
you are bound to sin. You need to die. -
Not SyncedThat’s why we need to be baptized,
Christ and the cross. -
Not Synced“For example, by law a married
woman is bound to her husband -
Not Syncedas long as he is alive,
but if her husband dies, -
Not Syncedshe is released from the law
that binds her to him. -
Not SyncedSo then, if she has sexual relations
with another man -
Not Syncedwhile her husband is still alive,
she is called an adulteress. -
Not SyncedBut if her husband dies,
she is released from that law -
Not Syncedand is not an adulteress
if she marries another man.” -
Not SyncedWhy did Paul suddenly
write about marriage? -
Not SyncedHere, he wrote about the law.:
“So, my brothers and sisters, -
Not Syncedyou also died to the law through
the body of Christ” -
Not SyncedYou were baptized into the death
of Christ, as part of the new birth. -
Not Synced“that you might belong to another,
to him who was raised from the dead, -
Not Syncedin order that we might bear
fruit for God. -
Not SyncedFor when we were in the
realm of the flesh, -
Not Syncedthe sinful passion aroused
by the law” -
Not Synced– the law didn’t free us when
we were sinners so the law; -
Not Syncedinstead, sin was aroused even
more - “were at work in us, -
Not Syncedso that we bore fruit for death.
-
Not SyncedBut now, by dying to what
once bound us, -
Not Syncedwe have been released
from the law -
Not Syncedso that we serve in the
new way of the Spirit, -
Not Syncedand not in the old way
of the written code.” -
Not SyncedI also said some of
these things in Lesson 5. -
Not SyncedI want to continue here today:
-
Not SyncedMany people have misunderstood
the next verses. -
Not SyncedI want you to notice something here:
“for when we were” - past tense; -
Not Synced“but now” - present tense.
-
Not SyncedIn Romans 7, Paul switched
between past and present tenses. -
Not SyncedNow he moves on in
the past tense. -
Not SyncedHe used the ‘representative
I’ in Greek. -
Not SyncedHere, he didn’t describe himself in
the present, but how he was in the past. -
Not SyncedMany people don’t understand
these verses. -
Not SyncedPaul wrote “I” here in the past tense.
-
Not SyncedHe identified himself with those
who were still under the law. -
Not SyncedHe used to be like them. So, many
people misunderstand this today. -
Not SyncedThen Paul wrote: “We know that the
law is spiritual;”- Yes, it is. -
Not Synced- “but I am unspiritual” – Paul, are you
unspiritual? - “sold as a slave to sin” -
Not SyncedPaul, you wrote seven times already
that you are free from sin! -
Not SyncedYou are not a slave to sin anymore.
You are free. -
Not SyncedBut now you say,
“I’m a slave”. No. -
Not SyncedHere, he used the ‘representative
I” in Greek. -
Not SyncedHe identified with those still
under the law as he once was. -
Not SyncedRemember, Paul used to be a
Pharisee of Pharisees. -
Not SyncedHe really lived by the law. “I am
unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. -
Not SyncedI do not understand what I do.
-
Not SyncedFor what I want to do I do not
do, but what I hate I do. -
Not SyncedAnd if I do what I do not want to
do, I agree that the law is good. -
Not SyncedAs it is, it is no longer I myself who
do it, but it is sin living in me.” -
Not SyncedThese verses don’t describe
the normal Christian life. -
Not SyncedYou need to get the context from
the chapters before and after. -
Not SyncedThen, you’ll realise that this isn’t
the normal Christian life. -
Not SyncedWe’re no longer sold as slaves to sin.
-
Not SyncedWe shouldn’t be unspiritual,
but spiritual. -
Not SyncedWe shouldn’t be carnal slaves to
sin, but experience freedom. -
Not SyncedBut many Christians identify
themselves with these words: -
Not Synced“Oh, what I don’t want to do, I do.
-
Not SyncedWhat I want to do, I don’t do.
It's sin that dwells in me.” -
Not SyncedIf this is your reality, there
are two possible explanations. -
Not SyncedOne is, you’re not truly born again.
-
Not SyncedTwo, you were born again but then
you tried to go in under the law again. -
Not SyncedIt’s possible to go back and become
bound again. I’ve seen people do that. -
Not SyncedWe need to remain in freedom.
-
Not SyncedThe law works such a way that people
become bound again and condemned. -
Not SyncedBut when we live by the Spirit,
there’s no condemnation. -
Not SyncedLet’s take an example of what
Paul wrote about head coverings. -
Not SyncedMy wife and daughters don’t do
that – they have long hair. -
Not SyncedWe live in different times now.
This is why I believe Paul wrote that: -
Not SyncedCovering the head was part of
the society at that time. -
Not SyncedMarried women covered their heads,
to show that they were married. -
Not SyncedThis also exists in many cultures today.
-
Not SyncedAt that time, married women who
didn’t cover their heads were rebellious. -
Not SyncedThey were not submitted. They brought
a lot of attention to themselves. -
Not SyncedBut nowadays in some places,
this has changed. -
Not SyncedWhat sometimes happens when
a woman covers her head? -
Not SyncedShe stands in front of people and
gets a lot of focus and attention. -
Not SyncedIt works almost in the opposite way.
-
Not SyncedIn the past, women covered their
heads to show submission. -
Not SyncedIt took attention away from themselves.
-
Not SyncedI believe that Paul’s motive was this:
-
Not SyncedWomen should dress modestly
for the sake of the angels. -
Not SyncedWe need to know who is a man
and who is a woman. Who is married? -
Not SyncedWho is not married.
Wear your wedding ring. -
Not SyncedBe clear in front of others
and the angels: -
Not SyncedWho is a woman, and who is a man?
-
Not SyncedWoman have long hair and are
submitted to their husbands. -
Not SyncedBe submitted to the people around
you. This is the concept behind it. -
Not SyncedHowever, people now use this as a rule.
Where I am it's not part of our culture. -
Not SyncedWe need to understand
the motive behind it. -
Not SyncedWe need to dress
modestly and properly. -
Not SyncedWoman shouldn’t draw attention to
their bodies, but dress accordingly. -
Not SyncedWomen should submit to their husbands.
-
Not SyncedHusbands submit to Christ and lay
down their lives for their wives. -
Not SyncedHair is our covering. But, at that time,
it meant something else. -
Not SyncedHowever, I’ve seen many women
today who have received the Spirit. -
Not SyncedThey’ve lived holy lives.
-
Not SyncedThe Holy Spirit has written
the law on their hearts. -
Not SyncedThey were living holy lives.
-
Not SyncedIf they dressed improperly, the Holy
Spirit told them not to dress like that. -
Not SyncedSo, they started to dress modestly.
-
Not SyncedIf they were rebellious against their
husband, they were led to submit. -
Not SyncedThe Holy Spirit worked in their heart.
They lived holy lives in freedom. -
Not SyncedBut then they misunderstand some
rules, or rules were imposed on them. -
Not SyncedThen, suddenly, they started
to feel condemned: -
Not Synced“Oh no, I feel condemned.
I need to cover my head.” -
Not SyncedSo, their testimony became this:
“I felt condemned. -
Not SyncedNow, I cover my head.
Now, there’s no condemnation. -
Not SyncedOh, I want to share this beautiful
testimony with the whole world: -
Not SyncedWhen I started to cover my head,
all condemnation disappeared. -
Not SyncedThis is from God.” No. Listen here.
-
Not SyncedBefore hearing the teaching about head
coverings, there was no condemnation. -
Not SyncedYou were free in Christ,
to not cover your head. -
Not SyncedBut you were still free to submit and
do what the Spirit was showing you. -
Not SyncedThen, when you heard a teaching,
you suddenly felt condemned. -
Not SyncedYou felt, you need to keep the rules,
to make the condemnation disappear. -
Not SyncedBut it often doesn’t stop there.
I’ve seen this happen many times. -
Not SyncedPeople start to think:
“I can’t do this or that”. -
Not SyncedCovering heads was not even
found in the law of Moses. -
Not SyncedOther things were regarding men,
women and submission etc. -
Not SyncedBut often, people move on from
head coverings to food laws. -
Not SyncedThey start keeping the feasts
and other rules. -
Not SyncedA person may think
they shouldn’t eat pork: -
Not Synced“Oh I felt so condemned when I ate
pork. Now, I’ve stopped eating pork. -
Not SyncedI don’t feel condemned anymore.”
-
Not SyncedBut you had already been living with
God for fifteen years in freedom. -
Not SyncedThe Holy Spirit worked in you.
You’ve been living a holy life. -
Not SyncedYou could eat pork without
feeling condemned. -
Not SyncedBut then you heard a teaching and
the law became part of your life. -
Not SyncedSuddenly you felt condemned,
because the law brings condemnation. -
Not SyncedThen you thought: “Oh, I need to keep this
to make the condemnation disappear.” -
Not SyncedThen you hear another thing that
you feel you need to keep. -
Not SyncedThis cycle repeats itself.
Suddenly, life becomes full of rules: -
Not Synced“Don’t touch! Don’t taste!
Don’t do this or that!” -
Not SyncedYou then live a life in condemnation.
-
Not SyncedYou no longer walk by the Spirit
and in freedom. -
Not SyncedI’ve seen that happen so many times.
-
Not SyncedPeople walked away from
the freedom in Christ. -
Not SyncedI hope you understand
what I’m saying. -
Not Synced“So, Torben, doesn’t the Bible say
that you cannot eat pork?” -
Not SyncedYes, but I’m not under that law.
Firstly, I’m not a Jew. -
Not SyncedSecondly, I’m not under that law.
I’m free in Christ. -
Not Synced“So, Torben, do you eat pork?” Yeah.
“So, is your fridge at home full of pork?” -
Not SyncedNo, we actually don’t
have pork in our house. -
Not SyncedThis is nothing to do with the law. Pork
is not healthy and we try to avoid it. -
Not SyncedSometimes, I buy something
with pork and eat it. -
Not SyncedBut I think God had a reason
behind that commandment. -
Not SyncedI don’t think it’s healthy to eat
pork. That’s my view. -
Not SyncedBut when I go out of our home,
I eat what’s being served. -
Not SyncedI am not under that law. I don’t
have to follow those rules. -
Not SyncedI’m free to eat what’s being served.
We read this in the Bible: -
Not SyncedWhen you come to a house, don’t consider
this and that and think about the rules. -
Not SyncedJust eat what’s being served. I’m free.
I don’t think that pork is healthy. -
Not Synced“Torben, do you keep the Sabbath?”
I’m not a Sabbath keeper. I’m in Christ. -
Not SyncedJesus did not command me to
keep the Sabbath. -
Not SyncedHe commanded me to find a
rest in him. I’m not a Jew. -
Not Synced“So, Torben, do you work
seven days a week?” -
Not SyncedNo, I believe there is a principle
behind resting one day. -
Not SyncedI’m not obligated to keep that.
-
Not SyncedBut I try to take time off,
which is important. -
Not SyncedIt’s important to give not just one day
to God, but all the days of your life. -
Not SyncedDon’t disregard the law, but use
it in the right way. -
Not SyncedUnderstand how it works.
Keep your freedom. -
Not SyncedDon’t go under the law,
where you’ll feel condemned again. -
Not SyncedWalk in freedom by the Spirit of
grace. That will lead to holiness. -
Not SyncedWhen we truly understand the Spirit,
we don’t have an excuse to sin. -
Not SyncedA true understanding leads to
holiness. Romans 8: -
Not Synced“Therefore, there is now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus.” -
Not SyncedSo, don’t go under the law and feel
condemned. You’ll get into a cycle: -
Not SyncedKeeping laws, feeling good, hearing about
more laws and feeling condemned. -
Not SyncedYour life will be full of keeping
more and more laws. -
Not SyncedYou’ll end up being enslaved again.
But you’re loosed from the law. -
Not SyncedYou’re dead to the law.
You’re alive in Christ. -
Not SyncedWalk by the Spirit. Let the
Spirit speak to and guide you. -
Not Synced“Because through Christ
Jesus the law of the Spirit” -
Not Synced- that is in those who are born again -
“the law of the Spirit who gives life” – -
Not Syncedas we walk according to law of Christ,
not the law of Moses - -
Not Synced“the law of the Spirit who gives life
-
Not Syncedhas set you free from the law of
sin and death. -
Not SyncedFor what the law was powerless to do
because it was weakened by the flesh,” -
Not SyncedIn other words, the law of Moses couldn’t
transform the hard stony hearts. -
Not SyncedBut God did it. How did He do it?
“God did it by sending his own Son -
Not Syncedin the likeness of sinful flesh
to be a sin offering. -
Not SyncedAnd so he condemned sin
in the flesh.” -
Not SyncedThe law couldn’t bring freedom
and righteousness. Why? -
Not SyncedBecause of the hardness of heart.
We saw that in Matthew 5. -
Not SyncedBut Christ did. Hallelujah!
-
Not Synced- “In order that the righteous
requirement of the law” -
Not Synced– in Lesson 7, I’ll talk about
curses and blessings. -
Not SyncedI’ll explain that if we don’t keep
the whole law, we’re under a curse. -
Not SyncedBut if we keep the law, we’re blessed.
That is the focus of Lesson 7. -
Not SyncedThese verses are important: curses
and blessings still exist under the law. -
Not SyncedThey’ve not been done away with.
But Christ has fulfilled the law. -
Not SyncedThe righteous requirement of the law
still exists. Here, we read this: -
Not Synced“that the righteous requirement
might be fully met in us” -
Not Synced- who obey the whole law? No -
-
Not Synced“who do not live according to the
flesh but according to the Spirit.” -
Not SyncedSo, what happens when you walk by the
Spirit or live according to the Spirit? -
Not SyncedThe righteous requirement
of the law is met: -
Not SyncedNot by you but by Christ in you.
-
Not SyncedOur focus should be on walking
the new life by the Spirit. -
Not SyncedThen the blessing from the law,
will be ours in Christ. -
Not Synced“Those who live according
to the flesh -
Not Syncedhave their minds set on
what the flesh desires; -
Not Syncedbut those who live according
to the Spirit -
Not Syncedhave their minds set on
what the Spirit desires.” -
Not SyncedWhat is your mind focussed on:
the flesh or the Spirit? -
Not SyncedThe righteous requirement of the
law might be fully met in us: -
Not SyncedThose do not live according to the
flesh but according to the Spirit. -
Not SyncedOkay, I’ll finish this lesson soon.
-
Not SyncedSo, where are you, my friend
and everyone watching this video? -
Not SyncedLet me ask you: Are you fully born again?
-
Not SyncedThat is essential.
Have you truly repented? -
Not SyncedHave you received a new heart?
-
Not SyncedHave you been baptized, putting off
that old life and washing away your sins? -
Not SyncedHave you buried that life, the body
that was a slave to sin? -
Not SyncedHave you received the true
baptism of the Holy Spirit? -
Not SyncedHas the Spirit of grace made you alive?
-
Not SyncedHere are two covenants and two
roads. We looked at this today. -
Not SyncedOn one side are Hagar and Ishmael.
-
Not SyncedThat is Islam, which represents
all religions and this world: -
Not SyncedEverything outside of Christ. They are
slaves. They live according to the flesh. -
Not SyncedThat is the old covenant with
the law of Moses. -
Not SyncedThe old covenant could not make
them righteous. This is in Christ. -
Not SyncedThis is everything outside Christ.
-
Not SyncedThe law was written on stone
tablets on Mount Sinai. -
Not SyncedThis is the present earthly Jerusalem.
-
Not SyncedThese children are born in the natural,
by the will of man. They’ll not inherit. -
Not SyncedThey are under the law. So, we see all
those things under Hagar: Slave. -
Not SyncedOld covenant. Stone tablets. Mount Sinai.
Present Jerusalem. Born naturally. -
Not SyncedChildren by the will of man.
Not inherit. Law. -
Not SyncedBut what do we see here? Isaac. Free.
Divine promise. New covenant. -
Not SyncedThe law of Christ, written on
our hearts. Mount Zion. -
Not SyncedHeavenly (future) Jerusalem.
Born spiritually. -
Not SyncedChildren of the promise of God.
Will inherit. Grace and truth. -
Not SyncedYou can see a big contrast. Which side
are you on? Let’s move on. -
Not SyncedHere, the righteous requirement
is by keeping the law: -
Not SyncedThey’re not God’s children.
-
Not SyncedThey’re under a guardian that existed
until the time of Christ. -
Not SyncedIt brings condemnation. They walk
by the flesh. They will die. -
Not SyncedBut this is the righteous requirement
in Christ: You are God’s children. -
Not SyncedThis is an eternal covenant.
There is no condemnation. -
Not SyncedThey walk by the Spirit.
They’ll live forever. It’s so beautiful. -
Not SyncedThe law was a guardian/trustee until
the set time when God sent His Son. -
Not SyncedNow we are not under the law of
Moses, written on stone. -
Not SyncedBut we're under the law of Christ,
written by His Spirit on our hearts. -
Not SyncedAnd we need to choose: who shall we
follow? You can’t follow both roads. -
Not SyncedYou must be either be on one,
or the other. -
Not SyncedWe’re coming to the conclusion
of Lesson 7. -
Not SyncedYou may have just read through
the Bible, including: -
Not SyncedThe story of Abraham, Sarah and
Hagar; God’s promise and covenant; -
Not SyncedAbraham rescuing Lot;
the Abrahamic covenant. -
Not SyncedChapter 16 about Hagar and Ishmael
might seem very strange to you. -
Not SyncedYou may wonder, why it’s in the Bible.
But you find the gospel here. -
Not SyncedIt’s a picture that points to Christ.
-
Not SyncedThe story of Sarah and Hagar
illustrates the two covenants. -
Not SyncedThis also shows the difference
between these two: -
Not SyncedOne, living under the law
(the natural). -
Not SyncedTwo, living in the promise of grace
through faith in Christ. -
Not SyncedThese two paths run
throughout the Bible: -
Not SyncedTwo roads – one that leads to death
and one that leads to life. -
Not SyncedThose who rely on their own efforts
and the law (like Ishmael, -
Not Syncedthose who are born of the flesh
– Islam and all other religions, -
Not Syncedthose who are not born again)
will not inherit the promises of God. -
Not SyncedThey are God’s creation but they
are not adopted as sons, yet. -
Not SyncedBut those who believe in Christ
and are born of the Spirit -
Not Synced(like Isaac, the child of promise)
are true heirs. -
Not SyncedHowever, we must understand
what true repentance and baptism are: -
Not SyncedWhat does it mean to live according
to the Spirit. Why? -
Not SyncedBecause today, many believe they
walk on the narrow road but do not. -
Not SyncedThat was my last slide. Where are you?
Are you truly born again? -
Not SyncedAre you walking by the Spirit? Come
back to the freedom that is in Christ: -
Not SyncedWalking by the Spirit and live a holy
life. If you need help, reach out to us. -
Not SyncedWe can then put you in contact
with people. -
Not SyncedThey can sit with you and share
more of the gospel. -
Not SyncedThey can help you to get baptised in
water and filled with the Holy Spirit. -
Not SyncedThey can help you to walk this
new life by the Spirit. -
Not SyncedI have a lot of other teaching out there
that I recommend you to watch. -
Not SyncedAlso, listen to the audiobook:
‘412 days’ if you haven’t already. -

Be strong in Christ. -
Not SyncedI will finish now by praying for you.
God, I thank You for this teaching. -
Not SyncedI thank You for everyone
who is watching this. -
Not SyncedGod, come with Your
Holy Spirit over them. -
Not SyncedGod, I pray that
they will not be deceived. -
Not SyncedI pray that they won’t be slaves to
the elemental rules of this world and sin. -
Not SyncedI pray that they’ll experience
the freedom that is in You, God. -
Not SyncedI pray that they’ll be
truly born again. -
Not SyncedI pray they'll understand that
they’re not slaves but sons. -
Not SyncedI pray that they’ll live in that
freedom by the Spirit of grace. -
Not SyncedThe Spirit teaches, guides
and helps us. -
Not SyncedYou want to purify a people that
is Yours. Jesus you’ll return soon. -
Not SyncedYou’ll take us, Your bride,
to be with You forever. -
Not SyncedWe’re now seated with you
in the heavenly places. -
Not SyncedOne day, the heavenly Jerusalem will
come down. That’ll be our inheritance. -
Not SyncedWe’ll live with you forever.
Come by Your Holy Spirit. -
Not SyncedUse this kingdom teaching to change
the hearts of those who watch this. -
Not SyncedCome by Your Spirit and do it,
God, in the name of Jesus. -
Not SyncedWe thank You. Amen.
God bless you out there. -
Not SyncedShare this kingdom teaching
with other people. -
Not SyncedSubscribe to the channel
if you haven’t already. -
Not SyncedI look forward to sharing
Lesson 7 with you. -
Not SyncedThere, we’ll look at the curses
and blessings of the law. -
Not SyncedWe’ll finish this section
of teaching. -
Not SyncedThen, we’ll focus on David
and the kingdom. -
Not SyncedFrom then, there will be a very
different focus in this teaching. -
Not SyncedBut I don’t want merely to hear
about the kingdom. -
Not SyncedI truly want you to enter that kingdom.
That’s why I started with this. -
Not SyncedGod bless you. Bye bye.
