High school coaching drills: Dingles Serve and Volley

OK.

This is called Serve Volley Dingles.

It's one of the variations of dingles we have.

This is a new one you might have not

seen.

Simultaneous serve and volley girls. Ready?

Go.

When the first ball goes out of play in this

cooperative

variation,

then it's called dingles, and you play it out as a doubles point.

Good.

Keep it going as much as you can.

Dingles, now it's a doubles point.

Play to win.

Nice.

This happens to be the money ball,

so if we win it,

we're over.

Ah,

good point,

Now we did not win it,

so they dropped back.

You got 1 point,

and now we go.

The first ones here,

these are not worth points.

Now it's already,

it's already a doubles point.

So notice what happened there.

Let me just clear this.

So, you guys gotta be organized and do it simultaneous and go.

This is dingles.

So, you can see sometimes if the serve is

missed right away, then that last point's already going.

Ideally,

each serve will go in and there'll be a couple three or four volleys.

As a coach,

if I think my players are missing too many serves and too many volleys,

I might say the point doesn't start

until there's at least two volleys made.

I can twice the rules.

Remember,

the second point is the money ball that determines who goes to be champs.

So, it's just a nice variation of that game.

All right,

so players,

let's do a quick huddle.

So one of the things that happened

is

there was a lot of missed first serves at least one of them was missed,

and then all of a sudden it's a point already. Or there

was maybe both serves came in there was only one volley.

So, it's really important part of the first point because

it's cooperative is that we try to get 3-4 hits.

Now, it's not easy because certain volleying is by its nature a little risky,

right?

But that's the thing you want to emphasize,

especially if you have players that miss early on on the point.

I encourage you to make a rule that

the points doesn't,

the second point won't be triggered.

It doesn't count unless you each make a serve

in one volley at least or something like that.

So, even though you're playing competitive in the second point,

the

the mood of

the

essence of that first point is conservative.

Make your shots.

Make your shots. Get in and be not conservative with your movement,

just with your shot power and just put balls in.

Sometimes we don't put enough balls in.

We miss a volley.

It's like,

well,

it was a volley,

but really volley should be consistent just like ground strokes,

right?
