Welcome to a Canvas Engagement
Series Video
-
Today we are going to discuss the
BluePrint tool and some year two
-
or semester two considerations for
BluePrint rollover with templates.
-
Blueprint Courses makes it easy for
administrators or designers to deploy,
-
update, and maintain course design
templates or components across any
-
number of courses for instructors.
-
For an individual institution, Blueprint
Courses allow Canvas admins to create
-
content and learning objects while
locking specific settings or content items
-
Admins or designers can push updates to
associated courses through course syncing.
-
If admins are working off a previously
used BluePrint course they will want
-
to dissociate the previously associated
courses, otherwise, new updates will
-
continue to update in the
concluded course.
-
Any items that are not locked can be
managed individually by the
-
course instructor.
-
Content that can be managed by an
instructor is not overwritten when the
-
Blueprint Course is synced to
associated courses.
-
Plus, any new content created by the
instructor in their associated
-
course is not affected.
-
In this video we will go over some
considerations for preparing your
-
instructors for the updates and changes
for that second year or second semester
-
in Canvas with BluePrints.
-

what’s covered in this video, please

-
Now…..Let’s get started!
-
When setting up year 2 or semester 2
using BluePrints as a template be certain
-
to focus on the naming conventions of the
new items you will be populating to
-
courses, possibly indicating a semester
or school year.
-
If you are updating previous items be
certain to change the title in some
-
fashion to recognize this is the new
school year or semester and this is a new
-
object to be used by the instructor.
-
It is considered a best practice to
associate BluePrints prior to instructors
-
adding in their content.
-
It will be less disruptive to the
instructors once they begin preparing
-
for the new semester or year.
-
Communicate in multiple ways to
instructors about the new updates to
-
the template
-
you are syncing with, this will allow
instructors to know what will be changing
-
and what to expect.
-
This will also prepare instructors to
pick the best way to import content
-
from previous semesters or years.
-
If there are going to be multiple updates
from the previous year instructors may
-
want to select the
“select specific content”
-
and be selective of what they will
be copying over.
-
If there are minor updates, they may want
to select “import all content” and delete
-
any duplicates from the import where
new items are in place.
-
One thing to note for Admins, when an
instructor copies content from one
-
course to another, if it was content that
was locked from a previous BluePrint
-
it will become unlinked and unlocked
from any BluePrint and instructors will
-
have full teacher role rights to those
objects in their new course.
-
Let’s dive a little deeper into what to
communicate and cover with instructors.
-
When instructors copy their previous
year or semester content into the new
-
course, they will have two options
for the import.
-
Copy a Canvas course “All content”
-
or Copy a Canvas Course
“Select Specific Content.”
-
Either option that an instructor selects
will bring in their content, to the new
-
semester or year long course.
-
When selecting specific content
instructors will be able to go through
-
and decide which objects to import.
-
The sync'd items from the BluePrint will
show up along with the remaining items
-
from the previously created course.
-
If you have additional questions about
how this can work for you and your
-
institution, please contact your CSM and
they will be happy to work with you
-
further. Thank you for your time today,
and Happy Canvassing!
