Disability - physical and mental illness
-
Someone who is temporarily disabled accommodations are easier
-
We have benefit programs in place, progressive return to work
-
with a view to getting the person back to work at their pre-injury job
-
Where a person's injuries are such that they cannot do their job or even part of their job
-
The task of finding accommodated work becomes more difficult.
-
And if it's on a permanent basis it's more challenging for the employer
-
because you're looking for a permanent solution rather than a temporary one
-
So it's more the reality of the search for accommodated work and the permanency
-
Mental health issues are still not as well accepted in a lot of workplaces
-
There's more discrimination still in people's minds even though
-
They're not overt about it, they have a hard time getting their heads around
-
the realities of mental illness, the various facets of it
-
And are probably not that well educated about different sorts of diseases.
-
Part of mental illness makes people suffering from it difficult to deal with as well.
-
That overlays some of the issues. That makes those difficult cases
-
that have to be dealth with sensitively from everyone's perspective
