Moving to Dubai, my honest experience 1 year later.

  • 0:04 - 0:04
    Oof.
  • 0:04 - 0:05
    Okay.
  • 0:06 - 0:06
    We've got a lot
  • 0:06 - 0:08
    to unpack in this video
  • 0:08 - 0:10
    because I wanted to share
  • 0:10 - 0:11
    what it's like
  • 0:11 - 0:13
living in Dubai for the last year,
  • 0:13 - 0:15
what my experience has been like,
  • 0:15 - 0:16
how I found it and stuff,
  • 0:16 - 0:18
because there is a lot to talk about.
  • 0:18 - 0:20
I have made a couple of videos
  • 0:20 - 0:22
    on my channel
  • 0:22 - 0:24
    regarding moving to Dubai,
  • 0:24 - 0:25
sort of like a few months later,
  • 0:25 - 0:26
a few weeks later or whatever,
  • 0:26 - 0:27
    sharing my experiences.
  • 0:27 - 0:28
But just to recap some of the reasons
  • 0:28 - 0:30
as to why I moved to Dubai,
  • 0:30 - 0:31
    quality of life here
  • 0:31 - 0:33
    is incredible.
  • 0:33 - 0:34
    I've always wanted to live
  • 0:34 - 0:35
    in another country.
  • 0:35 - 0:37
I was looking at all sorts of places.
  • 0:37 - 0:39
Actually, I've mentioned before that San Diego,
  • 0:39 - 0:41
    in America, Southern California,
  • 0:41 - 0:44
has been one of my favourite places on earth.
  • 0:44 - 0:45
I actually wanted to move there at one point.
  • 0:45 - 0:47
And just also kind of like
  • 0:48 - 0:49
    try something else,
  • 0:49 - 0:50
    try something different.
  • 0:50 - 0:51
Moving to Dubai has made me realise
  • 0:51 - 0:52
    how big the world is,
  • 0:52 - 0:53
    but at the same time
  • 0:53 - 0:54
how small it is as well.
  • 0:54 - 0:56
    Because I've realised
  • 0:56 - 0:58
there is so much more out there,
  • 0:58 - 0:59
    so much more
  • 0:59 - 1:00
    to learn out there,
  • 1:00 - 1:02
    so much more to see
  • 1:02 - 1:03
that's really opened my eyes up
  • 1:03 - 1:05
and I realise, actually, to move countries
  • 1:05 - 1:06
it's much easier than you think.
  • 1:06 - 1:08
But I'm speaking from a person
  • 1:08 - 1:09
who was born and raised in the UK.
  • 1:09 - 1:10
    I have a British passport,
  • 1:10 - 1:12
and British passport is a very powerful passport.
  • 1:12 - 1:14
I can move and sort of
  • 1:14 - 1:15
go to loads of different places
  • 1:15 - 1:16
    without visas and whatever else.
  • 1:16 - 1:18
    Obviously, to move to Dubai,
  • 1:18 - 1:19
you need a visa, but anyway.
  • 1:19 - 1:20
    Having a British passport
  • 1:20 - 1:22
does make it a lot easier
  • 1:22 - 1:24
to move to a lot of different countries.
  • 1:24 - 1:26
And of course, the other big reason,
  • 1:26 - 1:27
    which I'm not sure
  • 1:27 - 1:28
    why people feel like
  • 1:28 - 1:31
they are almost ashamed to say,
  • 1:31 - 1:32
    is the taxes.
  • 1:32 - 1:34
    The taxes in Dubai
  • 1:34 - 1:35
    are incredible.
  • 1:35 - 1:37
If you're someone who is a high earner,
  • 1:37 - 1:39
but you're not sort of wealthy or rich yet
  • 1:39 - 1:41
and you're looking to build your wealth,
  • 1:41 - 1:43
    I don't see what's wrong
  • 1:43 - 1:45
with moving to Dubai for a few years
  • 1:45 - 1:47
to sort of build up a portfolio,
  • 1:47 - 1:48
    build up some money,
  • 1:48 - 1:49
    build up some tax-free income
  • 1:49 - 1:50
because it's completely legal to do.
  • 1:50 - 1:52
Of course, that's one of the biggest reasons.
  • 1:52 - 1:54
And it's I've never sort of shied away
  • 1:54 - 1:54
    from that on this channel.
  • 1:54 - 1:56
I've always been very open about money,
  • 1:56 - 1:57
    talking about money,
  • 1:57 - 1:58
    because unfortunately,
  • 1:58 - 1:59
I feel like there's this big culture
  • 1:59 - 2:00
that you don't talk about money,
  • 2:00 - 2:02
    that you don't share
  • 2:02 - 2:03
    things about money,
  • 2:03 - 2:03
    that you don't talk
  • 2:03 - 2:04
    about these sorts of things,
  • 2:04 - 2:06
that it's like shameful to talk about it.
  • 2:06 - 2:07
    And I think that actually
  • 2:07 - 2:09
    creates an environment, a culture,
  • 2:09 - 2:11
that's not designed for young people,
  • 2:11 - 2:14
    especially to learn about money,
  • 2:14 - 2:15
    to understand money
  • 2:15 - 2:16
    to grow money.
  • 2:16 - 2:18
to understand what it takes to
  • 2:18 - 2:21
sort of use that money to their benefit.
  • 2:21 - 2:22
    A lot of people naturally
  • 2:22 - 2:23
    see money as a way
  • 2:23 - 2:24
to just sort of buy things
  • 2:24 - 2:26
    and to do things with
  • 2:26 - 2:27
and to live this amazing lifestyle,
  • 2:27 - 2:28
    when in reality,
  • 2:29 - 2:31
money is a lot more important than that.
  • 2:31 - 2:32
It can be used to make your life better,
  • 2:32 - 2:34
to make other people's lives better,
  • 2:34 - 2:36
to make your family lives better.
  • 2:37 - 2:38
    You need money to survive.
  • 2:38 - 2:39
    There's no doubt about it.
  • 2:39 - 2:40
So I hate this sort of culture
  • 2:40 - 2:42
    that you should be ashamed
    to talk about money.
  • 2:42 - 2:44
One of the biggest reasons I moved to Dubai
  • 2:44 - 2:45
    was for the tax benefits.
  • 2:45 - 2:47
    Now, that doesn't mean I don't pay
  • 2:47 - 2:48
    zero tax at all.
  • 2:48 - 2:50
I still have UK stuff going on.
  • 2:50 - 2:51
I still have a UK business,
  • 2:51 - 2:52
I still have people there and stuff.
  • 2:52 - 2:53
    So I pay taxes there,
  • 2:53 - 2:54
I'm happy to pay those taxes,
  • 2:54 - 2:55
    it's not problem.
  • 2:55 - 2:56
    But my personal income,
  • 2:57 - 2:58
I don't have to pay tax on that now
  • 2:58 - 2:59
    because I've moved to Dubai,
  • 2:59 - 3:01
    which is super, super powerful.
  • 3:01 - 3:02
So I've written down a few things here
  • 3:02 - 3:04
just to make sure I cover everything.
  • 3:04 - 3:05
One of the things actually was
  • 3:05 - 3:07
and probably the most important question
  • 3:07 - 3:09
and the question that I get asked a lot
  • 3:09 - 3:10
    by people is,
  • 3:10 - 3:11
    am I happy here?
  • 3:11 - 3:13
Am I happy that I moved?
  • 3:13 - 3:14
    Right now,
  • 3:14 - 3:15
    the way things currently are,
  • 3:15 - 3:17
    yes, I'm very, very happy.
  • 3:17 - 3:20
I have no plans to move
    anywhere else right now.
  • 3:20 - 3:22
I plan to stay here five years,
  • 3:22 - 3:24
    ten years, maybe longer.
  • 3:24 - 3:25
A lot of people say that they'll be here
  • 3:25 - 3:26
    for only five, ten years,
  • 3:26 - 3:28
but they end up staying for 20,
  • 3:28 - 3:29
30 years or their whole life.
  • 3:29 - 3:31
But in my head, I think to myself,
  • 3:31 - 3:33
    "Okay, let's try Dubai out
  • 3:33 - 3:34
    five, ten years or whatever
  • 3:34 - 3:36
before I have any children or anything
  • 3:36 - 3:37
before I really settle down or anything."
  • 3:37 - 3:39
It kind of just makes sense for me.
  • 3:39 - 3:39
    Safety.
  • 3:39 - 3:42
    So safety has been
  • 3:42 - 3:43
    a more important factor
  • 3:43 - 3:45
    than I realised
  • 3:45 - 3:46
    since moving to Dubai.
  • 3:46 - 3:48
    I actually didn't realise
  • 3:48 - 3:49
    how important
  • 3:49 - 3:52
    this safety aspect was until--
  • 3:52 - 3:53
    So I moved here
  • 3:53 - 3:54
and I've travelled back and forth
  • 3:54 - 3:56
to the UK and to other countries.
  • 3:56 - 3:57
I've done quite a bit of travelling
  • 3:57 - 3:58
    over the last year
  • 3:58 - 4:00
and it's really made me realise that
  • 4:00 - 4:02
    Dubai is incredibly safe.
  • 4:02 - 4:03
    Now, of course,
  • 4:03 - 4:05
does that mean it's 100% safe?
  • 4:05 - 4:05
    No, not at all.
  • 4:05 - 4:07
    There's no perfect country, right?
  • 4:07 - 4:09
    But for day-to-day life,
  • 4:09 - 4:11
    Dubai is just incredibly safe.
  • 4:11 - 4:13
Knowing that I can, for example,
  • 4:13 - 4:15
walk around with my phone out,
  • 4:15 - 4:17
    use my phone in public,
  • 4:17 - 4:18
and not have to worry about it
  • 4:18 - 4:20
being snatched out of my hand,
  • 4:20 - 4:22
as is the case in London,
  • 4:22 - 4:24
yeah, it's such a minor thing,
  • 4:24 - 4:25
you should be able to use your phone.
  • 4:25 - 4:26
You should be able to wear a nice watch.
  • 4:26 - 4:27
You should be able to have a nice car,
  • 4:27 - 4:30
    you should to enjoy
the fruits of your labour, right?
  • 4:31 - 4:33
    I mean, even just enjoying
your phone isn't a fruit of labour.
  • 4:33 - 4:36
    That's just an essential need
to use your phone in public.
  • 4:36 - 4:37
    Maybe to get directions,
  • 4:37 - 4:39
maybe to call someone, maybe to see--
  • 4:39 - 4:40
    Whatever it might be.
  • 4:40 - 4:41
    But in London,
  • 4:41 - 4:42
    unfortunately, there is this
  • 4:42 - 4:44
    weird thing of, like,
  • 4:44 - 4:46
your phone will get snatched out of your hand.
  • 4:46 - 4:47
    It's a shame that it's like that.
  • 4:47 - 4:49
But of course, there are a lot of layers
  • 4:49 - 4:51
    to sort of go down
  • 4:51 - 4:52
when it comes to that sort of thing,
  • 4:52 - 4:53
which it will just take forever.
  • 4:53 - 4:55
But yeah, growing up in the UK and stuff,
  • 4:55 - 4:56
    growing up in London,
  • 4:56 - 4:59
    yeah, it's not exactly safe.
  • 4:59 - 5:01
    Especially when-- So for example,
  • 5:01 - 5:03
in the estate that I used to live in the UK,
  • 5:03 - 5:05
we have like a Facebook group in that estate,
  • 5:05 - 5:07
and we used to see all sorts of
  • 5:07 - 5:08
    sort of video
  • 5:08 - 5:09
    footage and stuff
  • 5:09 - 5:11
    from people, security cameras,
  • 5:11 - 5:12
who live in the estate of just things
  • 5:12 - 5:14
    being robbed, cars being robbed,
  • 5:14 - 5:15
    people trying to get
    into the house and stuff.
  • 5:15 - 5:17
    I'm just like,
  • 5:17 - 5:18
    this is the norm.
  • 5:18 - 5:20
    How is that the norm?
  • 5:20 - 5:21
When did that become the norm?
  • 5:21 - 5:23
In Dubai, that is not the case.
  • 5:23 - 5:24
    Now, of course,
  • 5:24 - 5:26
    does it never happen?
  • 5:26 - 5:28
No, I'm sure things like that do happen here,
  • 5:28 - 5:29
but it is not the norm.
  • 5:29 - 5:32
And if you're found to do anything like that,
  • 5:32 - 5:33
    you will be punished severely.
  • 5:33 - 5:35
Now, of course, that can also mean
  • 5:35 - 5:36
    that there's this aspect
  • 5:36 - 5:38
of, oh, everyone's scared of the law,
  • 5:38 - 5:39
    everyone's scared of the police.
  • 5:39 - 5:41
But I kind of think to myself,
  • 5:41 - 5:43
that's how it should be in some ways.
  • 5:43 - 5:45
    And of course,
there's no perfect system, like I said,
  • 5:45 - 5:46
but I feel like that's how it should be.
  • 5:46 - 5:47
    I shouldn't have to worry
  • 5:47 - 5:49
    about being mocked, being hurt,
  • 5:49 - 5:50
    getting into fights or whatever,
  • 5:50 - 5:52
when I'm just walking down the street,
  • 5:52 - 5:53
    that just shouldn't happen.
  • 5:53 - 5:54
    So it's really nice
  • 5:54 - 5:56
    that that safety aspect
  • 5:56 - 5:58
    is so important here
  • 5:58 - 6:00
    and so nice here.
  • 6:00 - 6:01
And from travelling to other countries
  • 6:01 - 6:02
    and being other places
  • 6:02 - 6:04
I have been in the last year,
  • 6:04 - 6:06
the only other place that I feel like
  • 6:06 - 6:07
    really comes close is Japan.
  • 6:07 - 6:08
I went to Japan in October last year
  • 6:08 - 6:10
and that felt very, very safe.
  • 6:10 - 6:11
Y`ou could go out at midnight
  • 6:11 - 6:12
    and it will be safe.
  • 6:12 - 6:14
Now Japan is obviously to an outlier, right?
  • 6:14 - 6:16
Japan is known for being safe.
  • 6:16 - 6:18
But of course, Japan has its own cultural issues
  • 6:18 - 6:19
    just like every other place.
  • 6:19 - 6:21
Would I want to live in Japan?
  • 6:21 - 6:23
Probably not, especially as a foreigner.
  • 6:23 - 6:25
    There's this culture in Japan
  • 6:25 - 6:26
    where they really do treat
    their own as their own
  • 6:26 - 6:28
and anyone else outside of that,
  • 6:28 - 6:29
    welcome.
  • 6:29 - 6:31
In Dubai, that is not the case.
  • 6:31 - 6:33
In Dubai, I feel like most people
    are welcome here.
  • 6:33 - 6:34
    as long as you're someone
  • 6:34 - 6:36
    who is an active part
  • 6:36 - 6:38
    of the community and society
  • 6:38 - 6:39
and you sort of just keep yourself
  • 6:39 - 6:41
and you're not causing any trouble,
  • 6:41 - 6:43
you would be fine in Dubai, it's amazing.
  • 6:43 - 6:44
    Next up is cleanliness.
  • 6:44 - 6:46
So cleanliness in Dubai is another level.
  • 6:46 - 6:48
    Again, I didn't realise
  • 6:48 - 6:49
    how dirty other countries are
  • 6:49 - 6:53
until I stayed in Dubai for half a year.
  • 6:53 - 6:55
And then I started going to other places,
  • 6:55 - 6:56
    other countries and stuff,
  • 6:56 - 6:57
    I realised, wow, okay,
  • 6:57 - 6:58
    Dubai is really clean.
  • 6:58 - 7:01
    Graffiti doesn't exist here,
  • 7:01 - 7:02
    unless it's being placed purposely,
  • 7:02 - 7:05
the graffiti, by an artist or something,
  • 7:05 - 7:06
    graffiti is not here.
  • 7:06 - 7:08
And I realised going back to London,
  • 7:08 - 7:10
    wow, there's graffiti everywhere,
  • 7:10 - 7:10
    it's wild.
  • 7:10 - 7:11
    And again,
  • 7:11 - 7:13
I'm going to be comparing it to Japan here,
  • 7:13 - 7:14
    Japan is known to be
  • 7:14 - 7:16
one of the cleanest places on earth.
  • 7:17 - 7:19
I would say Dubai is cleaner,
  • 7:19 - 7:21
    which is crazy.
  • 7:21 - 7:24
I just didn't expect Dubai to be that clean.
  • 7:24 - 7:25
    But it really, really is.
  • 7:25 - 7:26
    It's cleaner than Japan.
  • 7:26 - 7:29
And Japan is definitely up there.
  • 7:29 - 7:29
    No doubt.
  • 7:29 - 7:30
    One of the cleanest places.
  • 7:30 - 7:32
I've also recently been to Singapore.
  • 7:32 - 7:33
    Again, Singapore,
  • 7:33 - 7:34
    is known to be
  • 7:34 - 7:35
    a very clean place,
  • 7:35 - 7:37
    but I wouldn't say
it's clean as to Dubai is.
  • 7:37 - 7:38
Dubai, they take it really to another level.
  • 7:38 - 7:40
Is that a reason as to why
  • 7:40 - 7:40
    you should move to Dubai?
  • 7:40 - 7:41
    Because it's so clean?
  • 7:41 - 7:42
    No, not at all.
  • 7:42 - 7:44
I don't think that really matters too much.
  • 7:44 - 7:46
    Of course, you don't want
to be living in a city
  • 7:46 - 7:47
    that's really dirty.
  • 7:47 - 7:48
    But just having a place
  • 7:48 - 7:50
    that's immaculately kept
  • 7:50 - 7:52
can really, I feel like, help
  • 7:52 - 7:53
    when it comes to just
  • 7:53 - 7:54
this image that you have in
  • 7:54 - 7:56
your head of the place where
  • 7:56 - 7:58
    if a place is clean
  • 7:58 - 8:00
and it looks well kept together,
  • 8:00 - 8:02
then you also are more likely to keep it
  • 8:02 - 8:03
    well kept together
  • 8:03 - 8:04
because you want it to look clean.
  • 8:04 - 8:06
It sort of activity plays in your head
  • 8:06 - 8:07
    that keeping things clean
  • 8:07 - 8:09
is the way of life here.
  • 8:09 - 8:10
Cost of living here is cheaper.
  • 8:10 - 8:11
    There's no doubt about it.
  • 8:11 - 8:14
Now, of course, this very much depends
  • 8:14 - 8:15
    on your current situation.
  • 8:15 - 8:17
    It depends on your lifestyle
  • 8:17 - 8:18
    and it depends on
  • 8:18 - 8:20
    where you're originally coming from.
  • 8:20 - 8:21
    If you're coming from
  • 8:21 - 8:22
    a major US city,
  • 8:22 - 8:23
    you're coming from the UK,
  • 8:23 - 8:25
    those sorts of places,
  • 8:25 - 8:27
which is obviously-- I'm used to,
  • 8:27 - 8:28
    Coming to Dubai,
  • 8:28 - 8:30
the cost of living is much cheaper.
  • 8:30 - 8:31
Now of course, if you're moving from
  • 8:31 - 8:32
    like Thailand or India,
  • 8:32 - 8:34
then cost of living is outrageous here,
  • 8:34 - 8:35
    no doubt.
  • 8:35 - 8:36
    But when you're coming
  • 8:36 - 8:38
from Western countries, from a Western city,
  • 8:38 - 8:41
the cost of living here is so, so cheap.
  • 8:41 - 8:43
Stuff like the prices of groceries and stuff
  • 8:43 - 8:44
can depend on where you shop,
  • 8:44 - 8:45
    but generally it is cheaper,
  • 8:45 - 8:47
especially with-- I know in the UK,
  • 8:47 - 8:49
the cost of living has gone up so much
  • 8:49 - 8:51
and the price of just general everyday
  • 8:51 - 8:53
things like groceries have gone up so much,
  • 8:53 - 8:54
    that it's definitely more expensive
  • 8:54 - 8:56
    to buy
  • 8:56 - 8:57
    groceries there
  • 8:57 - 8:58
    compared to Dubai.
  • 8:58 - 8:59
And it's the same with things
  • 8:59 - 9:00
    like electricity and fuel.
  • 9:00 - 9:01
    Like fuel for your car,
  • 9:01 - 9:03
it is so much cheaper here
  • 9:03 - 9:05
compared to the UK and the US.
  • 9:05 - 9:06
    It's crazy.
  • 9:06 - 9:08
    Really is impressive
  • 9:08 - 9:09
    how much cheaper it is.
  • 9:09 - 9:10
Now there are things that are more expensive,
  • 9:10 - 9:11
    things like your phone plan,
  • 9:11 - 9:12
    your internet plan,
  • 9:12 - 9:15
    but it's not like
    it's outrageously expensive,
  • 9:15 - 9:16
but it is definitely more expensive
  • 9:16 - 9:18
compared to the US and the UK.
  • 9:18 - 9:19
I'm not sure how many people
  • 9:19 - 9:20
will agree with me on this one,
  • 9:20 - 9:21
but I do think the quality
  • 9:21 - 9:23
    of food here in Dubai
  • 9:23 - 9:24
    is just better.
  • 9:24 - 9:26
    Considering it's the desert
  • 9:26 - 9:28
and most of the food has to be imported,
  • 9:28 - 9:30
now they do grow some of their own food
  • 9:30 - 9:31
because they have their own farms here,
  • 9:31 - 9:32
    indoor farms.
  • 9:32 - 9:34
But most of the major supermarkets
  • 9:34 - 9:35
    that I've been to here,
  • 9:35 - 9:37
the quality of the fruit and veg
  • 9:37 - 9:40
and the meat is just incredible.
  • 9:40 - 9:42
    Everything tastes amazing.
  • 9:42 - 9:43
    I've noticed since moving here
  • 9:43 - 9:45
that I eat a lot healthier,
  • 9:45 - 9:47
purely because the fruit and veg
  • 9:47 - 9:49
    is just tastier to eat.
  • 9:49 - 9:50
I'm more likely to eat it
  • 9:50 - 9:53
because I know it's of amazing quality.
  • 9:53 - 9:54
    Same with the meat.
  • 9:54 - 9:56
    Meat can be more expensive
  • 9:56 - 9:57
depending on the type of meat
  • 9:57 - 9:59
    you're buying.
  • 9:59 - 10:00
If you're buying steaks and stuff,
  • 10:00 - 10:01
    yeah, it is more expensive,
  • 10:01 - 10:03
    but the quality of it
  • 10:03 - 10:04
    is just incredible.
  • 10:04 - 10:07
    It's really blown my mind.---
  • 10:07 - 10:08
    Like, I'm not joking.
  • 10:08 - 10:09
    My my health
  • 10:09 - 10:11
and my quality of intake of food
  • 10:11 - 10:13
    has just shot up incredibly.
  • 10:13 - 10:15
And of course, when it comes to choice,
  • 10:15 - 10:17
the choice you have here for food
  • 10:17 - 10:18
and the way you want to eat,
  • 10:18 - 10:19
    I don't think there is
  • 10:19 - 10:21
any other city in the world that beats
  • 10:21 - 10:22
    whatever type of food
  • 10:22 - 10:24
    you want, whether it be
  • 10:24 - 10:26
    high quality Japanese food
  • 10:26 - 10:28
or whether it be some Turkish food,
  • 10:28 - 10:29
    you will find it here
  • 10:29 - 10:30
    and you will find it
  • 10:30 - 10:32
    in its most authentic form
  • 10:32 - 10:33
if you know where to look.
  • 10:33 - 10:35
And it's mainly because there are so many
  • 10:35 - 10:36
    different types of people
  • 10:36 - 10:37
    from all different countries
  • 10:37 - 10:38
that move here, and they're looking
  • 10:38 - 10:40
    for authentic food, for food
  • 10:40 - 10:42
that reminds them of their own country.
  • 10:42 - 10:43
    And there are, of course,
  • 10:43 - 10:44
    people from their own country
  • 10:44 - 10:46
    making restaurants, creating restaurants,
  • 10:46 - 10:47
    creating food
  • 10:47 - 10:49
that match the quality of the food
  • 10:49 - 10:51
that they would find in their country.
  • 10:51 - 10:54
So you can find all types of authentic
  • 10:54 - 10:54
    food here.
  • 10:54 - 10:55
    And it's been really,
  • 10:55 - 10:56
    really impressive to me.
  • 10:56 - 10:57
I don't think in my lifetime
  • 10:57 - 10:59
I've had such a wide variety of food
  • 10:59 - 11:01
in such a short amount of time.
  • 11:01 - 11:03
I can go one week from having, like I said,
  • 11:03 - 11:05
    authentic Japanese food
  • 11:05 - 11:06
    all the way to having
  • 11:06 - 11:07
    if I want dirty American
  • 11:07 - 11:09
barbecue ribs, I can get that as well.
  • 11:09 - 11:10
    It's just amazing
  • 11:10 - 11:12
how many different types of food is here
  • 11:12 - 11:14
and the quality of it all.
  • 11:14 - 11:16
Making friends and having a community.
  • 11:16 - 11:16
    So this is something
  • 11:16 - 11:17
    I completely understand
  • 11:17 - 11:19
is very difficult for some people.
  • 11:19 - 11:21
    I am an outlier here.
  • 11:21 - 11:22
    I'm not going to lie.
  • 11:22 - 11:24
I have found it very, very easy
  • 11:24 - 11:25
    to make friends here.
  • 11:25 - 11:27
Maybe it's a type of person I am.
  • 11:27 - 11:28
    Maybe it's because I'm willing
  • 11:28 - 11:29
    to talk to anyone
  • 11:29 - 11:31
and have a conversation or whatever
  • 11:31 - 11:33
and just discover what a person is like.
  • 11:33 - 11:34
    Also, having an online
  • 11:34 - 11:36
    presence like I do,
  • 11:36 - 11:37
    having followers on Instagram,
  • 11:37 - 11:38
    YouTube, stuff like that.
  • 11:38 - 11:40
    I loosely already have friends
  • 11:40 - 11:41
    who are in the space
  • 11:41 - 11:42
    of doing this whole thing,
  • 11:42 - 11:44
and a lot of them live in Dubai.
  • 11:44 - 11:46
A lot of them visit Dubai.
  • 11:46 - 11:47
Dubai seems to be like this hub
  • 11:47 - 11:48
for people to sort of meet up.
  • 11:48 - 11:50
So for me, it really hasn't been an issue.
  • 11:50 - 11:52
I found it very easy to make friends.
  • 11:52 - 11:53
    I also think
  • 11:53 - 11:54
a lot of people who complain about
  • 11:54 - 11:56
    they can't make friends because
  • 11:56 - 11:58
    I don't think they're making enough effort.
  • 11:58 - 11:59
I found that since moving here,
  • 11:59 - 12:01
I'm meeting up with friends a lot more
  • 12:01 - 12:04
regularly and the variety of those friends,
  • 12:04 - 12:05
the range of those friends is
  • 12:05 - 12:06
    much, much wider.
  • 12:06 - 12:07
When I was in the UK,
  • 12:07 - 12:09
I was usually just meeting their friends
  • 12:09 - 12:10
who are local to me because that's easy.
  • 12:10 - 12:12
    That's where they are.
  • 12:12 - 12:13
But with Dubai, there are people,
  • 12:13 - 12:14
like I said, always flying in and out
  • 12:14 - 12:16
with friends, coming in and out
  • 12:16 - 12:17
    all the time.
  • 12:17 - 12:18
    YouTubers are the creators
  • 12:18 - 12:19
are the people in the space
  • 12:19 - 12:20
    business people.
  • 12:20 - 12:21
    Entrepreneurs are meeting them
  • 12:21 - 12:23
    randomly here and there.
  • 12:23 - 12:23
    They'll message me, be like,
  • 12:23 - 12:25
    Hey, man, I'm in Dubai.
  • 12:25 - 12:25
    Let's meet up.
  • 12:25 - 12:27
    And Dubai has been designed
  • 12:27 - 12:28
    in a very unique manner
  • 12:28 - 12:30
compared to a city like London,
  • 12:30 - 12:31
    where when you're in London,
  • 12:31 - 12:33
it can take maybe like an hour, hour
  • 12:33 - 12:34
and a half to get across London.
  • 12:34 - 12:36
Even when you're using public transport,
  • 12:36 - 12:38
it can be quite a lot of effort
  • 12:38 - 12:40
just to go see a friend in London.
  • 12:40 - 12:41
    But in Dubai,
  • 12:41 - 12:42
    you can usually drive
  • 12:42 - 12:44
    anywhere in Dubai
  • 12:44 - 12:45
    within 30 minutes,
  • 12:45 - 12:46
as long as you're not driving
  • 12:46 - 12:47
    a rush hour
  • 12:47 - 12:49
    because of the way
  • 12:49 - 12:50
    they've designed highways to rise
  • 12:50 - 12:51
    and stuff, you know,
  • 12:51 - 12:52
sure, there is no public transport.
  • 12:52 - 12:53
    It would be really nice
  • 12:53 - 12:55
    to have public transport,
  • 12:55 - 12:56
but as long as you're not driving
  • 12:56 - 12:57
    at rush hour,
  • 12:57 - 12:59
    you can usually get anywhere
  • 12:59 - 13:00
    in Dubai within 30 minutes.
  • 13:00 - 13:01
And I found it super easy
  • 13:01 - 13:02
    to see friends
  • 13:02 - 13:04
who are either staying in like the marina
  • 13:04 - 13:06
    or staying in downtown
  • 13:06 - 13:07
or just staying in another part of Dubai.
  • 13:07 - 13:09
Even going down to another city
  • 13:10 - 13:11
    like Abu Dhabi
  • 13:11 - 13:13
only takes an hour to get there
  • 13:13 - 13:15
so I can get down to Abu Dhabi in an hour.
  • 13:15 - 13:16
    And that's like I think that's
  • 13:16 - 13:18
    like 150 kilometres or something.
  • 13:18 - 13:19
    It's quite far,
  • 13:19 - 13:20
but you can get there very, very quickly
  • 13:20 - 13:21
because it's just one strike, right?
  • 13:21 - 13:22
So for me, making friends here
  • 13:22 - 13:24
and the sort of community aspect of
  • 13:24 - 13:25
    it has been incredible.
  • 13:25 - 13:26
I have not had any issues,
  • 13:26 - 13:28
    unfortunately, for people
  • 13:28 - 13:29
    who are outside of Dubai,
  • 13:29 - 13:31
    I have this misconception
  • 13:31 - 13:32
    that Dubai is this off
  • 13:32 - 13:35
    party, lavish lifestyle, living
  • 13:35 - 13:36
sort of place where everything is
  • 13:36 - 13:38
to the max all the time.
  • 13:38 - 13:39
    But that's actually a very,
  • 13:39 - 13:42
very small portion of the Dubai.
  • 13:42 - 13:43
I don't think a lot of people realise this
  • 13:43 - 13:45
    because they just see
  • 13:45 - 13:46
    the stuff on social media,
  • 13:46 - 13:47
    they see on YouTube videos,
  • 13:47 - 13:48
    and it's usually stuff
  • 13:48 - 13:49
    that's in like the marina
  • 13:49 - 13:51
    or downtown Dubai.
  • 13:51 - 13:53
But those are actually very small pores.
  • 13:53 - 13:54
The lifestyle you have in Dubai,
  • 13:54 - 13:56
    you can very much choose.
  • 13:56 - 13:58
You can choose to have the party lifestyle
  • 13:58 - 13:59
to go out all the time,
  • 13:59 - 14:01
to be amongst the craziness all the time.
  • 14:01 - 14:03
You can do that if you like,
  • 14:03 - 14:05
but you can also have a very calm
  • 14:05 - 14:07
    and serene lifestyle here.
  • 14:07 - 14:08
That's something that I want to do
  • 14:08 - 14:10
since moving here because I don't drink,
  • 14:10 - 14:11
    Don't party really.
  • 14:11 - 14:12
I've been to like sort of beach bars
  • 14:12 - 14:13
    and beach clubs and stuff,
  • 14:13 - 14:15
but they're not also really my thing,
  • 14:15 - 14:16
    loud music and stuff.
  • 14:16 - 14:17
    I sound really boring here, don't I?
  • 14:17 - 14:18
    But loud music.
  • 14:18 - 14:20
Super loud music just is a massive thing.
  • 14:20 - 14:21
I love music I listen to all the time,
  • 14:21 - 14:23
    but super loud music.
  • 14:23 - 14:24
I just can't even talk to the person
  • 14:24 - 14:24
    next to me.
  • 14:24 - 14:26
    That's not my sole thing.
  • 14:26 - 14:26
    If that's what you like,
  • 14:26 - 14:27
    you'll also love Dubai.
  • 14:27 - 14:28
    But like I said,
  • 14:28 - 14:30
Dubai can also be a very calm
  • 14:30 - 14:31
    and serene place.
  • 14:31 - 14:33
I live in a gated community, family
  • 14:33 - 14:35
    orientated community,
  • 14:35 - 14:36
    and it is so quiet
  • 14:36 - 14:37
    here, So, so quiet.
  • 14:37 - 14:39
    I wanted to basically match
  • 14:39 - 14:40
    the sort of calm lifestyle
  • 14:40 - 14:42
it had in the UK here and you can do that.
  • 14:42 - 14:44
    And the great thing is
  • 14:44 - 14:45
    I can drive 20 minutes,
  • 14:45 - 14:46
    15 minutes,
  • 14:46 - 14:47
so I can be at the beach and again,
  • 14:47 - 14:48
    just enjoy the beach
  • 14:48 - 14:49
    and enjoy the sunshine.
  • 14:49 - 14:50
    There's so many things here
  • 14:50 - 14:52
    that is designed
  • 14:52 - 14:53
    for comfort, really
  • 14:53 - 14:55
to have a calm and comfortable lifestyle.
  • 14:56 - 14:58
    Also because of the communities
  • 14:58 - 14:59
    they have in Dubai,
  • 14:59 - 15:00
    you can live in
  • 15:00 - 15:01
any type of community you like,
  • 15:01 - 15:03
so you can live in a community that's
  • 15:03 - 15:05
    very sort of sports orientated
  • 15:05 - 15:06
    like Sports city,
  • 15:06 - 15:07
where you can have a sports city.
  • 15:07 - 15:09
There's also a pet friendly community.
  • 15:09 - 15:11
So if you have a dog
  • 15:11 - 15:12
and you want to take your dog for walks
  • 15:12 - 15:12
    regularly,
  • 15:12 - 15:14
you want to go to the park and stuff.
  • 15:14 - 15:16
There are specific communities in Dubai
  • 15:16 - 15:17
where it makes the super easy
  • 15:17 - 15:19
for you to just leave your apartment,
  • 15:19 - 15:20
    leave your house
  • 15:20 - 15:21
and take your dog for a walk,
  • 15:21 - 15:22
take it to the park, whatever.
  • 15:22 - 15:23
And there are other people there
  • 15:23 - 15:24
    who also own dogs
  • 15:24 - 15:25
    and other animals and stuff.
  • 15:25 - 15:27
It's just designed to be pet friendly,
  • 15:27 - 15:28
which I think is actually super,
  • 15:28 - 15:29
    super small.
  • 15:29 - 15:30
    During the winter months between
  • 15:30 - 15:31
    October and March.
  • 15:31 - 15:32
    I don't think I would want
  • 15:32 - 15:35
to be anywhere else on Earth like the
  • 15:35 - 15:38
the weather here is just about perfect.
  • 15:38 - 15:39
    It hovers
  • 15:39 - 15:41
now between 20 to 30 degrees.
  • 15:41 - 15:42
Sometimes it goes over 30 degrees,
  • 15:42 - 15:44
but 20 to 30 degrees in the day.
  • 15:44 - 15:47
And that is sort of like ten, 15 degrees
  • 15:47 - 15:48
in the night during the winter months.
  • 15:48 - 15:50
    It is so, so nice.
  • 15:50 - 15:50
    Like I really don't
  • 15:50 - 15:51
    want to be anywhere else.
  • 15:51 - 15:54
And it's one of the other reasons why
  • 15:54 - 15:55
I really like the lifestyle here.
  • 15:55 - 15:57
Now, there's a big con with that,
  • 15:57 - 15:58
    which is the summer.
  • 15:58 - 16:01
The summer in Dubai is brutal,
  • 16:01 - 16:02
    there's no doubt about it.
  • 16:02 - 16:03
    You're mainly just sitting
  • 16:03 - 16:05
    inside in many sitting and.
  • 16:05 - 16:06
    AC Yeah, it's it's
  • 16:06 - 16:08
    not exactly ideal for someone
  • 16:09 - 16:11
who is a very outdoorsy person.
  • 16:11 - 16:13
    I'm not super outdoorsy
  • 16:13 - 16:14
doing the job that I do
  • 16:14 - 16:16
and the lifestyle that I have.
  • 16:16 - 16:17
I do spend a lot of it inside.
  • 16:17 - 16:18
    So for me,
  • 16:18 - 16:19
it's not been too much of an issue.
  • 16:19 - 16:21
But I also have the luxury
  • 16:21 - 16:22
    of being able to afford
  • 16:22 - 16:24
    to travel quite regularly.
  • 16:24 - 16:26
So during the summer months here,
  • 16:26 - 16:27
    I like to travel.
  • 16:27 - 16:28
I'd like to go back to the UK,
  • 16:28 - 16:29
I'd go to parts of Europe
  • 16:29 - 16:31
and just anywhere else that I want to go.
  • 16:31 - 16:33
I usually do during the summer
  • 16:33 - 16:34
    to avoid the heat here
  • 16:34 - 16:36
    and to go somewhere cooler.
  • 16:36 - 16:36
But even then when I go
  • 16:36 - 16:38
    somewhere like UK or Europe
  • 16:38 - 16:40
or whatever in the summer, it's still warm.
  • 16:40 - 16:42
    It's technically Dubai's winter,
  • 16:42 - 16:43
    so it's just funny
  • 16:43 - 16:46
    how basically all year round
  • 16:46 - 16:47
    I have the summer
  • 16:47 - 16:48
    and what the seasons.
  • 16:48 - 16:50
For me, I can choose the season,
  • 16:50 - 16:50
    which is wild.
  • 16:50 - 16:52
    When I think about it.
  • 16:52 - 16:52
    I'm in this
  • 16:52 - 16:53
    very fortunate position where
  • 16:53 - 16:55
    I can choose the season
  • 16:55 - 16:57
    any time of the year
  • 16:57 - 16:59
and it's a very, very lucky
  • 16:59 - 17:00
and fortunate position to be in.
  • 17:00 - 17:02
    But yeah, the summers in
  • 17:02 - 17:04
    Dubai are pretty brutal.
  • 17:04 - 17:05
    Now, like I mentioned earlier,
  • 17:05 - 17:06
    the 0% income tax is
  • 17:06 - 17:08
    and the 9% corporation
  • 17:08 - 17:09
    tax, depending on the company
  • 17:09 - 17:11
    wanting and stuff
  • 17:11 - 17:12
    like it has really changed
  • 17:12 - 17:14
    my life in terms
  • 17:14 - 17:15
    of how I'm planning
  • 17:15 - 17:16
    my sort of retirement,
  • 17:16 - 17:18
    my portfolio, my future.
  • 17:18 - 17:19
    Since moving here
  • 17:19 - 17:20
    I am saving over
  • 17:20 - 17:22
    50% of my income,
  • 17:23 - 17:25
    over 50%,
  • 17:25 - 17:25
    probably a bit
  • 17:25 - 17:27
    more than I actually.
  • 17:27 - 17:28
And most of it is going into
  • 17:28 - 17:30
    my investments, into my savings,
  • 17:30 - 17:31
    which is just it's crazy
  • 17:31 - 17:33
    how quickly that's growing
  • 17:33 - 17:34
    compared to how slowly
  • 17:34 - 17:35
it was growing in the UK,
  • 17:35 - 17:36
because obviously I was having to pay
  • 17:36 - 17:38
a lot of taxes in the UK.
  • 17:38 - 17:39
    I've realised how powerful
  • 17:39 - 17:41
    that can be
  • 17:41 - 17:42
    in terms of sort
  • 17:42 - 17:43
    of like life planning
  • 17:43 - 17:46
and how I'm going to live
  • 17:46 - 17:47
    my life
  • 17:47 - 17:48
    in the future,
  • 17:48 - 17:49
how I'm living my life now.
  • 17:49 - 17:50
I can have a lot more freedom
  • 17:50 - 17:52
in what I spend my money on.
  • 17:52 - 17:54
    Having 0% income taxes
  • 17:54 - 17:55
    self personal income taxes
  • 17:55 - 17:58
    is just incredibly, incredibly powerful,
  • 17:58 - 17:59
    especially if you're someone
  • 17:59 - 18:00
    who is a high earning
  • 18:00 - 18:00
    for someone
  • 18:00 - 18:02
who's earning more than six figures.
  • 18:02 - 18:03
    If someone is earning more
  • 18:03 - 18:04
    than seven figures like
  • 18:05 - 18:06
the amount of money you save
  • 18:06 - 18:07
in taxes, moving to buy is
  • 18:07 - 18:09
    just it's
  • 18:09 - 18:10
it's like you're taking home double
  • 18:10 - 18:11
    the income, pretty much depending
  • 18:11 - 18:13
on the country you're leaving from.
  • 18:13 - 18:15
So it can make a huge, huge difference.
  • 18:15 - 18:16
    Now different
  • 18:16 - 18:17
    laws in different countries.
  • 18:17 - 18:19
    In the UK, for example,
  • 18:19 - 18:20
I can live from the UK
  • 18:20 - 18:23
and still be a British citizen
  • 18:23 - 18:24
and go back to the UK
  • 18:24 - 18:26
    whenever I like,
  • 18:26 - 18:27
but be a tax resident of Dubai.
  • 18:27 - 18:29
    Obviously I have to spend
  • 18:29 - 18:30
a certain amount of days in
  • 18:30 - 18:31
    Dubai and I can only
  • 18:31 - 18:33
spend a certain amount of days
  • 18:33 - 18:34
in the UK whenever I want to.
  • 18:34 - 18:35
I can move back to the UK.
  • 18:35 - 18:36
    Like I said,
  • 18:36 - 18:37
if I want to move back to the UK
  • 18:37 - 18:38
    in five years, ten years,
  • 18:38 - 18:40
whatever, I can do that, no problem.
  • 18:40 - 18:41
I think there is this thing
  • 18:41 - 18:42
    about with capital gains
  • 18:42 - 18:44
    and stuff, capital gains taxes.
  • 18:44 - 18:46
If you if you move back within five years,
  • 18:46 - 18:48
you are liable to pay the taxes in the UK.
  • 18:49 - 18:50
But I'm not a tax expert.
  • 18:50 - 18:52
It's why I have an accountant.
  • 18:52 - 18:53
    I actually have two accountants,
  • 18:53 - 18:55
I have an accountant in the UK
  • 18:55 - 18:56
and I have an accountant here in Dubai
  • 18:56 - 18:58
    who and obviously they manage
  • 18:58 - 18:59
    my various different things.
  • 18:59 - 19:01
My UK accountant manages all my UK stuff.
  • 19:01 - 19:01
    So yeah,
  • 19:01 - 19:03
there's someone who is a high earner,
  • 19:03 - 19:05
    but you're not rich yet.
  • 19:05 - 19:06
So and we like to call them.
  • 19:06 - 19:08
    I would very much take
  • 19:08 - 19:09
    into consideration moving to Dubai
  • 19:09 - 19:10
    doesn't have to be permanently,
  • 19:10 - 19:11
but it could be a good way
  • 19:11 - 19:14
to build a portfolio to get yourself
  • 19:14 - 19:14
    sort of further
  • 19:14 - 19:16
    along the path
  • 19:16 - 19:17
    than you would
  • 19:17 - 19:19
    in another country.
  • 19:19 - 19:19
    If you are interested
  • 19:19 - 19:21
in moving to Dubai yourself or the UAE.
  • 19:21 - 19:23
I've actually partnered with an agency
  • 19:23 - 19:25
that has a done for you service.
  • 19:25 - 19:26
They help me manage my business
  • 19:26 - 19:27
    to help me manage
  • 19:27 - 19:28
    all aspects of my business,
  • 19:28 - 19:29
    and they've helped out
  • 19:29 - 19:30
    other friends as well.
  • 19:30 - 19:32
    This service is specially designed
  • 19:32 - 19:33
    for those who want
  • 19:33 - 19:35
    a streamlined experience in moving.
  • 19:35 - 19:36
    You don't want to deal
  • 19:36 - 19:37
    with any of the paperwork
  • 19:37 - 19:37
and you don't want to deal
  • 19:37 - 19:39
with any of the hassle or anything.
  • 19:39 - 19:40
    You're willing to pay
  • 19:40 - 19:42
someone just to do the job for you.
  • 19:42 - 19:43
    This is the agency
  • 19:43 - 19:43
that does it all for you.
  • 19:43 - 19:45
I think this is very much ideal
  • 19:45 - 19:46
for someone who is a high end.
  • 19:46 - 19:46
    And, you know,
  • 19:46 - 19:47
you don't really want to be dealing
  • 19:47 - 19:48
    with the paperwork
  • 19:48 - 19:50
and all the logistics and stuff.
  • 19:50 - 19:51
    You'd rather pay someone else
  • 19:51 - 19:52
because you don't have the time.
  • 19:52 - 19:53
    I was the same.
  • 19:53 - 19:54
I don't really have the time
  • 19:54 - 19:56
to learn about everything moving to Dubai.
  • 19:56 - 19:57
I want someone to do it for me.
  • 19:57 - 19:59
    And these guys are incredible.
  • 19:59 - 20:00
    They do it for
  • 20:00 - 20:01
    so many different businesses.
  • 20:01 - 20:02
    They manage like over
  • 20:02 - 20:03
    a thousand businesses alone
  • 20:03 - 20:04
    and like they've helped
  • 20:04 - 20:06
thousands of people move to Dubai.
  • 20:06 - 20:07
    So if you guys are
  • 20:07 - 20:09
interested, I'll even link to it.
  • 20:09 - 20:10
    I partnered with them
  • 20:10 - 20:11
    and if you're interested
  • 20:11 - 20:12
in moving to the bank, check it out.
  • 20:12 - 20:14
So yeah, Dubai can be a very wild ride
  • 20:14 - 20:16
or very calm, serene way of living.
  • 20:16 - 20:17
    It really depends on
  • 20:17 - 20:19
how you want to live your life.
  • 20:19 - 20:21
Hopefully you guys enjoy this for now.
  • 20:21 - 20:23
Hopefully you guys have enjoyed me
  • 20:23 - 20:24
    rambling about Dubai
  • 20:24 - 20:26
and my experience here over the last year.
  • 20:26 - 20:27
I feel like there was so much more
  • 20:27 - 20:28
that I could sort of other
  • 20:28 - 20:29
    so much more
  • 20:29 - 20:32
    so to to discuss.
  • 20:32 - 20:32
    I know
  • 20:32 - 20:32
    a lot of
  • 20:32 - 20:33
people are going to have questions as well.
  • 20:33 - 20:34
Please leave them in the comments.
  • 20:34 - 20:36
I'll try to answer some of the
  • 20:36 - 20:36
    some of the comments.
  • 20:36 - 20:38
    I can't reply to everyone's comments,
  • 20:38 - 20:39
    but there's anything interesting
  • 20:39 - 20:40
    in the comments.
  • 20:40 - 20:41
    I'll definitely reply to them.
  • 20:41 - 20:42
    Hopefully you guys enjoy it.
