How to Use Freegate

  • 0:09 - 0:12
Welcome to yet another 12pm Tutorial.
  • 0:12 - 0:16
This tutorial will teach you how to use Freegate, an anti-censorship tool produced
  • 0:16 - 0:19
    by Dynamic Internet Technology.
  • 0:19 - 0:23
Freegate is a standalone piece of software that connects you to the Internet through
  • 0:23 - 0:29
Dynaweb, which uses a system of Peer to Peer proxy connections in order to grant users
  • 0:29 - 0:33
access to information that has been blocked in their area.
  • 0:33 - 0:37
12pm Tutorials has another video tutorial that focuses on Dynaweb that you can
  • 0:37 - 0:46
    check out at http://bit.ly/bhkWTP.
  • 0:46 - 0:50
Freegate is a simple piece of software that simply needs to be downloaded and run
  • 0:50 - 0:55
in order to function. Put Freegate on a USB flash drive and you can take it with you
  • 0:55 - 0:57
and use it at any computer.
  • 0:57 - 1:01
Now that you know what Freegate is, let me show you how to use it.
  • 1:01 - 1:04
First we need to download Freegate, so open up your web browser
  • 1:04 - 1:10
    and go to www.dit-inc.us.
  • 1:10 - 1:16
If this is your first time on the DIT website go ahead and take a look around before
  • 1:16 - 1:18
    we continue.
  • 1:18 - 1:22
Once you're done looking around, click on the "Our Products" link on the left hand
  • 1:22 - 1:25
    side of the screen.
  • 1:25 - 1:28
Now click on the "Freegate Link".
  • 1:28 - 1:32
Go ahead and read the information if you would like and then click "Download the
  • 1:32 - 1:35
    latest Freegate client software".
  • 1:35 - 1:38
This page will give you some different download options.
  • 1:38 - 1:44
Click on "Download Professional Edition" and save it to your computer.
  • 1:44 - 1:53
Once the file finishes downloading close your browser and go find your file.
  • 1:53 - 1:56
Go ahead and double click the icon now.
  • 1:56 - 1:59
What you see here is the user interface.
  • 1:59 - 2:02
The tabs here will present you with different information and options.
  • 2:02 - 2:06
The one you might want to look at first is settings.
  • 2:06 - 2:19
I'm going to leave all of these like they are, but feel free to set anything as you see fit.
  • 2:19 - 2:24
As a side note, you can go to the settings tab and set the Freegate browser to close
  • 2:24 - 2:27
automatically when you close the program.
  • 2:27 - 2:31
You can also set Freegate to automatically delete your browsing history when you close
  • 2:31 - 2:33
    the program.
  • 2:33 - 2:38
I suggest using these two features for extra security.
  • 2:38 - 2:42
Now that we're connected I'm going to go to the Internet Explorer browser that Freegate
  • 2:42 - 2:44
    opened for me.
  • 2:44 - 2:48
This browser can be used safely to access websites and information that may be
  • 2:48 - 2:54
blocked where you are accessing the Internet from.
  • 2:54 - 3:00
In order to exit the Freegate program, click on the X or click "Exit".
  • 3:00 - 3:05
Freegate should ask if you want to keep the Internet Explorer windows open or if
  • 3:05 - 3:07
    you want to close them.
  • 3:07 - 3:09
    I'm going to close them.
  • 3:09 -
Now you know how to use Freegate.
