Discourse on Taking Refuge in Oneself | Read by Brother Duc Khiem
Description:
Part of the free Plum Village App https://plumvillage.app/, 'Discourse on Taking Refuge in Oneself', translated by Thich Nhat Hanh is read by Brother Duc Khiem.
In this sutra, the Buddha gives his students, who were grieving the loss of two of the eldest brothers, Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, a teaching about attachment. Do not look outward to relieve your suffering, says the Buddha. Only by nourishing Right Understanding and practising the art of mindfulness in order to transform cravings and anxieties, by meditating on the body in the body, in other words, only by taking refuge in the one place that is safe and offers security and solidity – the island within oneself – one will find the answer.
