ELDER GERALD N. LUND: When I was a teenager, I used to take a long way home and one night,
  • 0:11 - 0:13
I just had a feeling, just go home.
  • 0:13 - 0:15
    I thought that was strange,
  • 0:15 - 0:17
but I thought, oh, well, so I did.
  • 0:17 - 0:20
The next day, when I got home,
  • 0:20 - 0:23
my mother showed me a newspaper that showed an automobile wreck where
  • 0:23 - 0:28
four teenagers had been killed right on the route that I would have taken.
  • 0:28 - 0:30
As I went back and retraced that route,
  • 0:30 - 0:35
it was the exact time that I would have been at that corner where the wreck took place.
  • 0:35 - 0:39
JENNY: The Spirit has definitely protected me from making wrong decisions.
  • 0:39 - 0:41
Even though we know what we should be doing,
  • 0:41 - 0:44
we need the Holy Ghost to remind us when to do it.
  • 0:44 - 0:48
KRISTA: This feeling of peace that I get when the choice is right is indescribable.
  • 0:48 - 0:50
When I'm making a choice or a decision that
  • 0:50 - 0:53
isn't quite probably within the Lord's guidelines for me,
  • 0:53 - 0:56
I do feel that unsettled feeling and know that
  • 0:56 - 0:58
what I'm choosing and thinking isn't right.
  • 0:58 - 1:01
ELDER GERALD N. LUND: Sometimes it's so subtle that you don't recognize it,
  • 1:01 - 1:03
and only later, as you see how things work out,
  • 1:03 - 1:05
    get the confirmation again,
  • 1:05 - 1:09
and you say, now I understand that was from the Lord.
  • 1:09 - 1:15
SIM: It's been cool to know that you can go to Him and ask Him specific questions,
  • 1:15 - 1:17
and if you want to know how He speaks
  • 1:17 - 1:20
to you and want to recognize that, you ask Him that.
  • 1:20 - 1:21
    You ask Him, Heavenly Father,
  • 1:21 - 1:25
I want to recognize your spirit when you speak to me.
  • 1:25 - 1:27
As you do that, and as you read your scriptures,
  • 1:27 - 1:30
pray, and continually put yourself in
  • 1:30 - 1:33
those places that fill the spirit, He'll reveal that to you.
  • 1:33 - 1:37
ELDER GERALD N. LUND: If you want to talk to the Lord, get down on your knees.
  • 1:37 - 1:41
If you want the Lord to talk to you, open your Scriptures.
  • 1:41 - 1:44
So many times, when we're reading the Scriptures regularly,
  • 1:44 - 1:49
the answer comes in a verse that looks like it was dictated just for us,
  • 1:49 - 1:51
    and that's the Spirit working.
  • 1:51 - 1:54
TRACY: If I study the Scriptures,
  • 1:54 - 1:56
I know that that invites revelation from the Spirit.
  • 1:56 - 1:59
I keep a little journal with my scripture study,
  • 1:59 - 2:01
and there are so many times when I read a verse,
  • 2:01 - 2:03
and I think, oh, that's nice,
  • 2:03 - 2:05
I'm going to write down a little thing about it.
  • 2:05 - 2:07
But as I start to write, suddenly,
  • 2:07 - 2:11
my mind is filled with so much more that I'm learning from that scripture,
  • 2:11 - 2:13
but when we invite the Spirit to reveal truth to us,
  • 2:13 - 2:18
He's so eager to tell us and to give us the truth that we need.
  • 2:18 - 2:23
ELDER GERALD N. LUND: For young adults who are facing some of the great decisions of their life,
  • 2:23 - 2:27
you have to remember that the Lord gets to decide everything about revelation.
  • 2:27 - 2:31
He gets to decide when it comes, how it comes.
  • 2:31 - 2:35
Let's say you're praying about whether you should marry this person or not.
  • 2:35 - 2:37
Sometimes we want it to come our way,
  • 2:37 - 2:39
    we want it something dramatic.
  • 2:39 - 2:41
I want to feel the tingle,
  • 2:41 - 2:44
so I know that he's the one for me or she's the one for me.
  • 2:44 - 2:48
You don't tell the Lord how to do His business.
  • 2:48 - 2:51
You just keep your life in order
  • 2:51 - 2:54
so you can hear that still, small voice.
  • 2:54 - 2:58
Then sometimes you just move forward with trust and say,
  • 2:58 - 3:03
if this is wrong, let me know. But otherwise, I'm going.
  • 3:03 - 3:06
SIM: It's been the greatest blessing to
  • 3:06 - 3:12
recognize someone that you're supposed to spend the rest of your life with—
  • 3:12 - 3:15
it's been a great blessing to have that confirmed to your heart.
  • 3:15 - 3:18
My only date and advice for anybody,
  • 3:18 - 3:20
understand that the Lord is mindful of you,
  • 3:20 - 3:22
and He's mindful of your circumstances and
  • 3:22 - 3:25
that He's going to bless you with what you need,
  • 3:25 - 3:28
but it's always going to be in His time.
  • 3:28 - 3:30
As long as you realize that as long as you do what you're supposed to do,
  • 3:30 - 3:33
no blessing will ever be withheld from you.
  • 3:33 - 3:35
ELDER GERALD N. LUND: Life is so complex.
  • 3:35 - 3:39
That you can't get a rulebook that covers every situation.
  • 3:39 - 3:42
Even the Scriptures give you principles.
  • 3:42 - 3:46
The only way you can know what to do in any situation is to have
  • 3:46 - 4:10
the presence of a member of the Godhead with you, and that's the Holy Ghost.
  • 4:10 - 4:19
