Ramesh Balsekar - Gut Schermau Seminar - 1998-06-27

  • Not Synced
    I would very much like
  • Not Synced
    if two, three, or four
  • Not Synced
would get up and tell me
  • Not Synced
    what exactly they want
  • Not Synced
    out of this seminar.
  • Not Synced
    I rather expected this.
  • Not Synced
So, my teaching is really based
  • Not Synced
    on three very simple assumptions.
  • Not Synced
    The first assumption is
  • Not Synced
    that the totality of manifestation
  • Not Synced
    has come from the Source.
  • Not Synced
    The Source is only One.
  • Not Synced
    So, in creating the manifestation,
  • Not Synced
    the Source could not possibly
  • Not Synced
    have taken
  • Not Synced
    any other material from anywhere
  • Not Synced
    to produce the manifestation.
  • Not Synced
So it must have been produced
  • Not Synced
    out of Itself.
  • Not Synced
    So, strictly therefore,
  • Not Synced
    if the Source has
  • Not Synced
    produced the manifestation,
  • Not Synced
    if the Consciousness unmanifest
  • Not Synced
    has become manifested,
  • Not Synced
    if the potential energy
  • Not Synced
    has become activized,
  • Not Synced
    they are not two.
  • Not Synced
    It is the same Consciousness
  • Not Synced
    which was unmanifest
  • Not Synced
    has become manifest.
  • Not Synced
    Which is precisely
  • Not Synced
    what Buddha meant
  • Not Synced
    when he said:
  • Not Synced
    Nirvana and Samsara
  • Not Synced
    are one, not two.
  • Not Synced
    Nirvana in action is Samsara.
  • Not Synced
When Samsara is not in action
  • Not Synced
    it is Nirvana.
  • Not Synced
    They are not two.
  • Not Synced
    Basically, that is the point.
  • Not Synced
    They are not two.
  • Not Synced
    And the human being
  • Not Synced
    is part of that manifestation.
  • Not Synced
    And what is the manifestation?
  • Not Synced
    Totality of objects.
  • Not Synced
    The totality of manifestation
  • Not Synced
    is the totality of objects.
  • Not Synced
    Which means, according to me,
  • Not Synced
the human being is an object.
  • Not Synced
    The rock is an object,
  • Not Synced
    the animal is an object.
  • Not Synced
the human being is an object
  • Not Synced
    with different characteristics.
  • Not Synced
    The rock has no senses,
  • Not Synced
    therefore the rock
  • Not Synced
    does not need sensions
  • Not Synced
    or consciousness
  • Not Synced
    for the senses to work.
  • Not Synced
    The animal has senses,
  • Not Synced
    therefore it has sensions
  • Not Synced
which enables the senses to work.
  • Not Synced
But both the rock and the animal
  • Not Synced
    are objects in the totality
  • Not Synced
    of objects in the manifestation.
  • Not Synced
    The human being, similarly,
  • Not Synced
    is an object,
  • Not Synced
like the rock or the animal,
  • Not Synced
    with the same sensions
  • Not Synced
    as the animal has,
  • Not Synced
    which enables the human being
  • Not Synced
    to live his life
  • Not Synced
and for the senses to work.
  • Not Synced
    The second thing
  • Not Synced
that my assumption is based on
  • Not Synced
is the statement of Lord Buddha.
  • Not Synced
    "In life, events happen,
  • Not Synced
    deeds are done,
  • Not Synced
but there is no individual doer thereof".
  • Not Synced
    The events and the deeds
  • Not Synced
    are actions which happen
  • Not Synced
    through any body-mind organisms,
  • Not Synced
    or all body-mind organisms
  • Not Synced
    together constitute the functioning
  • Not Synced
    of that manifestation.
  • Not Synced
There is no individual doer thereof.
  • Not Synced
    That is precisely
  • Not Synced
    what Lord Krishna meant,
  • Not Synced
    which is my third assumption.
  • Not Synced
    Lord Krishna,
  • Not Synced
    in the Bhagavad Gita, says:
  • Not Synced
    "You cannot commit a sin,
  • Not Synced
you cannot commit a meritorious deed,
  • Not Synced
you think in terms of sins
  • Not Synced
    and meritorious deeds
  • Not Synced
    because your knowledge
  • Not Synced
    of your true nature
  • Not Synced
is clouded or enveloped by ignorance."
  • Not Synced
    The word used is "ignorance".
  • Not Synced
And the ignorance that is referred to
  • Not Synced
    in the Bhagavad Gita
  • Not Synced
is what we in modern times
  • Not Synced
    use as the word "ego",
  • Not Synced
    which is the basic problem
  • Not Synced
    of the seeking.
  • Not Synced
    Most teachings start with
  • Not Synced
the basic that it is your ego
  • Not Synced
which is the cause of all your suffering.
  • Not Synced
It is the ego which is
  • Not Synced
    the cause of your suffering.
  • Not Synced
Therefore, you must kill the ego.
  • Not Synced
And in order to kill the ego,
  • Not Synced
    various prescriptions are given.
  • Not Synced
    So my question therefore is:
  • Not Synced
    if the human being
  • Not Synced
    is merely a created object
  • Not Synced
    which is part of
  • Not Synced
    the totality of manifestation,
  • Not Synced
where did this sense of individuality,
  • Not Synced
    this ego, which is
  • Not Synced
    supposed to be destroyed,
  • Not Synced
    where did it come from?
  • Not Synced
Where could it have come from
  • Not Synced
    except from the Source.
  • Not Synced
    So, my concept is
  • Not Synced
that it is the same Source
  • Not Synced
    which created the rock
  • Not Synced
    and the animal with sensions,
  • Not Synced
    and the human being
  • Not Synced
    with sensions and intellect
  • Not Synced
    which created the ego.
  • Not Synced
    In fact, my concept is
  • Not Synced
    that the thinking mind,
  • Not Synced
    the intellect, the "me",
  • Not Synced
    and the ego are names
  • Not Synced
    for the same thing.
  • Not Synced
    The intellect which considers
  • Not Synced
    oneself as an individual
  • Not Synced
with a sense of personal doership
  • Not Synced
"I" do things, which is the ego.
  • Not Synced
    So the "me"
  • Not Synced
to whom a prescription is given
  • Not Synced
    to kill the ego
  • Not Synced
    is the same thing.
  • Not Synced
    I repeat:
  • Not Synced
    you, to whom the prescriptions
  • Not Synced
    are given,
  • Not Synced
    to kill the ego
  • Not Synced
    are not two.
  • Not Synced
    So how can the ego
  • Not Synced
    kill itself?
  • Not Synced
    The ego cannot kill itself.
  • Not Synced
    Therefore, my basic concept is
  • Not Synced
    that only that power,
  • Not Synced
    the Source,
  • Not Synced
    which created the ego
  • Not Synced
    can remove the ego
  • Not Synced
    and that is precisely
  • Not Synced
    what the source is doing.
