Hear what Ivanka Trump said about her father's 2024 announcement

  • 0:00 - 0:04
One person he does not have is his daughter, Ivanka Trump,
  • 0:04 - 0:07
because just moments after the former president said that
  • 0:07 - 0:10
he would have run again for 20, 24
  • 0:10 - 0:14
his daughter Ivanka released a statement essentially saying,
  • 0:14 - 0:15
    look, I'm opting out
  • 0:15 - 0:20
She says this time around I'm choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life
  • 0:20 - 0:22
we are creating as a family.
  • 0:22 - 0:25
I do not plan to be involved in politics
  • 0:25 - 0:28
while I will always love and support my father.
  • 0:28 - 0:32
Going forward, I will do so outside the political arena.
  • 0:32 - 0:33
    They are
  • 0:33 - 0:34
    I mean,
  • 0:34 - 0:38
I remember when there was all the conversations of the so-called adults in the room
  • 0:38 - 0:41
and the person everyone kept on the speed dial.
  • 0:41 - 0:45
Aside from Mark Meadows during January 6th, it seemed to be contact Ivanka.
  • 0:46 - 0:50
You somehow could reel him in some way that's not there.
  • 0:50 - 0:52
Whether that was true or not fully, we don't know.
  • 0:52 - 0:53
But that's not going to be there.
  • 0:53 - 0:55
    Well, neither will Jared.
  • 0:55 - 0:56
Apparently, between the two of them,
  • 0:56 - 0:59
they were probably three fourths of the Trump administration
  • 0:59 - 1:01
    and running the decisions there.
  • 1:01 - 1:04
But that's part of what we're seeing is that even for his own family members,
  • 1:04 - 1:10
the shine is wearing off despite all of the goals that we saw in that
  • 1:10 - 1:13
assembly that announcement that he had.
  • 1:13 - 1:16
It's just the appeal is not the same.
  • 1:16 - 1:20
So what can Trump do up to be a little bit different
  • 1:20 - 1:23
and to set himself apart from other Republicans?
  • 1:23 - 1:26
Now, to the point about his hold on the Republican Party,
  • 1:26 - 1:27
    it is absolutely there.
  • 1:27 - 1:32
But we also saw the Trump era drives people out of the Republican Party.
  • 1:32 - 1:34
If they didn't sign up as Democrats, I signed up as independents.
  • 1:34 - 1:39
So outside of a really raucous Republican primary,
  • 1:39 - 1:43
if Trump's winning the nomination could be a gift to Democrats.
  • 1:43 - 1:44
    Exactly
  • 1:44 - 1:47
And you're right, as he's driven people out of the party,
  • 1:47 - 1:50
that's actually strengthened his hold on the party
  • 1:50 - 1:53
made it much less likely that he could ever be elected again.
  • 1:53 - 1:55
I mean, you don't have a Congresswoman, Liz Cheney,
  • 1:55 - 1:59
your vision of political leadership right now or Congress after this session is over.
  • 1:59 - 2:03
And we're going to have the good night in committee on January 6th as well.
  • 2:03 - 2:08
But I still wonder about not only who could take on from the Republican side, Donald Trump.
  • 2:08 - 2:11
I know Governor Santos, he is the shiny object right now,
  • 2:11 - 2:17
does not have arguably the most formidable opponent in his gubernatorial race,
  • 2:17 - 2:20
as one would expect at a presidential level.
  • 2:20 - 2:24
But you still have to have the support in many respects of the Republican leadership,
  • 2:24 - 2:26
the Mitch McConnell, who I don't think is there,
  • 2:26 - 2:29
the Kevin McCarthy who is undecided as of yet,
  • 2:29 - 2:33
whether he will go in as Congresswoman Stefanik
  • 2:33 - 2:36
and say, yes, I'm all in already.
  • 2:36 - 2:38
When you look at the leadership right now,
  • 2:38 - 2:41
and power in the Senate and soon to be the House,
  • 2:41 - 2:43
    Does he have the support?
  • 2:43 - 2:45
Does who have the support? - Donald Trump
  • 2:45 - 2:46
    That's what I'm talking about.
  • 2:46 - 2:48
Yeah, I think he does because for two reasons.
  • 2:48 - 2:52
One, the reason that everybody already knows is there are many members of Congress
  • 2:52 - 2:59
who are afraid to cross him because they're afraid of being called Lil senator X or, you know,
  • 3:00 - 3:03
Ron, the sanctimonious or whatever the nickname is
  • 3:03 - 3:04
I think you also have a situation
  • 3:04 - 3:09
where Republican members of Congress don't want to be primaried from their right.
  • 3:09 - 3:13
They fear that much more than a general election, at least up until this point.
  • 3:13 - 3:17
And so you have a situation where you want to stay on the President Trump's good side
  • 3:17 - 3:20
so that you don't incur that challenge
  • 3:20 - 3:23
    - lightly around - the situation you have as a Republican right now,
  • 3:23 - 3:26
a Republican leader is they embrace Trump.
  • 3:26 - 3:27
    And this is now
  • 3:27 - 3:31
the direct consequence of several years down the line of him having taken over the party
  • 3:31 - 3:35
I want a lightning round here for what do you think the Senate is going to run, throw his hat into the ring?
  • 3:35 - 3:37
I don't think Trump will be a post
  • 3:37 - 3:40
Really? What do you think? Oppose or not?
  • 3:40 - 3:42
    I can see DeSantis running.
  • 3:42 - 3:43
    What do you think?
  • 3:43 - 3:45
If he's going to run, he has to go now,
  • 3:45 - 3:47
even though he's only in his mid forties, Laura,
  • 3:47 - 3:49
if you wait too long, it's the Chris
  • 3:49 - 3:50
Christie rule. You miss your window.
