Gallbladder functionsThe gallbladder is a small hollow organ where bile is stored and concentrated before it is released into the small intestine. The gallbladder in humans is pear-shaped and is found under the liver.
The gallbladder stores bile which is created in the liver.
Bile is important for the digestion of food. Fats in your intestine like to stick together and form clumps of fat. The bile breaks these clumps apart which helps the job of the enzymes easier.
Think of bile as the detergent you use when washing dishes after a really fatty meal. After the liver produces bile it travels down the common hepatic duct into the gallbladder and the gallbladder secretes bile into the upper part of the small intestines using the common bile duct.
Can you live without a gallbladder
YesA gallbladder can be removed for many reasons such as excessive gallstones or cancer.
The bile is rerouted from the liver into the small intestines.
The most common side effect of the removal of the gallbladder is indigestion. - Video Language:
