Politics in the Light of Nonduality - Beyond Bias & A Path to Unity

  • 0:03 - 0:09
We live in a world increasingly
    polarized where differing opinions
  • 0:09 - 0:13
    are met with hostility rather
    than understanding
  • 0:13 - 0:19
But what if there's a different way. What
if we could transcend the limitations of
  • 0:19 - 0:26
    dualistic thinking and approach politics
    with compassion and clarity.
  • 0:26 - 0:32
Nonduality is something realized when we
    directly experience who we are
  • 0:32 - 0:37
beyond name and form. The ancient
traditions call this by many names
  • 0:37 - 0:43
    Samadhi, Moksha, Liberation,
    the Kingdom of God.
  • 0:43 - 0:48
Through deep inner inquiry, we come
to see the biases and attachments
  • 0:48 - 0:54
of our own characters and our own
filters. We will naturally transform our
  • 0:54 - 0:59
understanding of politics and promote a
    more harmonious World.
  • 0:59 - 1:04
Non duality is realized by dropping
    identification with the characters
  • 1:04 - 1:12
we have been playing, and directly
    Awakening to our true nature.
  • 1:12 - 1:17
Which is something that can't be
    described in words or understood
  • 1:17 - 1:23
analytically. Samadhi is waking up from
the delusion that we are separate,
  • 1:23 - 1:28
independent entities, and there is a
direct knowing that everything is part
  • 1:28 - 1:35
of a unified whole. The wisdom of the
third Zen patriarch offers a profound
  • 1:35 - 1:43
insight into the nature of non-dualism.
He famously stated the Great Way
  • 1:43 - 1:47
is not difficult for those who
    have no preferences.
  • 1:47 - 1:55
When Love and Hate are both absent,
    everything becomes clear and undisguised.
  • 1:55 - 2:02
Make the smallest distinction however, and
Heaven and Earth are set infinitely apart.
  • 2:02 - 2:08
If you wish to see the truth, then hold
no opinions for or against anything.
  • 2:08 - 2:14
To set up what you like against what
you dislike is the disease of the Mind.
  • 2:15 - 2:21
Preferences are at the root of the ego,
the root of the 'I' thought,
  • 2:21 - 2:27
and by their very nature create division.
They establish a hierarchy of values
  • 2:27 - 2:33
and are at the root of all violence.
Egoic thought by its nature is violence,
  • 2:33 - 2:40
and it is preferences which fuel conflict,
when those egoic outcomes are not realized
  • 2:40 - 2:46
Non preference doesn't mean apathy or
    indifference. It means approaching
  • 2:46 - 2:51
situations with an open mind, and
a willingness to accept what IS.
  • 2:51 - 2:57
This allows us to see things more clearly,
without the distortions of our own biases
  • 2:57 - 3:03
    and desires. When everyone drops
    their own egoic agenda,
  • 3:03 - 3:10
then life flows more freely. Some
misinterpret this teaching as a call
  • 3:10 - 3:15
for detachment, that could lead to
    indifference or apathy.
  • 3:15 - 3:20
Critics will say it is important to care
    deeply about certain values
  • 3:20 - 3:27
and advocating for them. But this is a
    profound misunderstanding of the path
  • 3:27 - 3:34
of Awakening. When we drop our own egoic
agenda and our own biases, then action
  • 3:34 - 3:39
flows from a place of true compassion
and love, rather than focusing on what is
  • 3:39 - 3:45
    just for one's own benefit.
To love is to be one with.
  • 3:45 - 3:52
And it is to humble the egoic mind the
Great Way involves bringing the typically
  • 3:52 - 3:59
    unconscious human ego into awareness.
    It's about recognizing the dualistic
  • 3:59 - 4:06
mechanism that binds the sense of self to
the world of form and perpetuates
  • 4:06 - 4:09
    suffering through these attachments
  • 4:09 - 4:18
There is a saying what you resist persists
    where attention goes, energy flows.
  • 4:18 - 4:23
By resisting anything in our inner
or outer world we give strength
  • 4:23 - 4:29
to the ego. It is foolish to resist
what is, because it already IS.
  • 4:29 - 4:35
We just just add more suffering if we
resist it. The first step to Liberation
  • 4:35 - 4:40
is to see the madness of resisting
    something that already is.
  • 4:41 - 4:47
It was the German philosopher Hegel that
said: 'evil resides in the very gaze,
  • 4:47 - 4:53
which perceives Evil all around itself'
When we label ourselves as good,
  • 4:53 - 4:58
and others as evil, we create an
    inner and outer resistance
  • 4:58 - 5:03
    and cultivate egoic attachment,
    empowering our own ego.
  • 5:03 - 5:07
    We become the very thing
    that we resist.
  • 5:08 - 5:15
Likewise Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said:
'A man sees in the world what he carries
  • 5:15 - 5:20
in his heart' Anything and anyone you push
away, becomes a source of inner struggle,
  • 5:20 - 5:25
a kind of Shadow within that will
continue to follow you until you turn
  • 5:25 - 5:31
the light of Consciousness on. Instead
of trying to eliminate people and things
  • 5:31 - 5:36
that are uncomfortable you accept them.
    Not by giving them control,
  • 5:36 - 5:42
but by welcoming them with openness and
    understanding. Through this acceptance
  • 5:42 - 5:48
they lose their power over you,
transforming into energies you can access
  • 5:48 - 5:55
and comprehend. They become a natural part
of the full experience of being conscious
  • 5:55 - 6:02
alive and present. In this way all aspects
of your self come back together
  • 6:02 - 6:08
    harmonizing into a unified Whole.
We don't see things in the world
  • 6:08 - 6:15
as they are. We see them as we are. When
we change ourselves, we change the world
  • 6:15 - 6:22
    we perceive. Emotional and spiritual
    maturity involves reconnecting every
  • 6:22 - 6:29
part of yourself, leaving nothing ignored
denied or hidden, allowing for true
  • 6:29 - 6:36
wholeness. The pathless path to Liberation
for all, is for each individual to know
  • 6:36 - 6:41
    themselves, and by Awakening
    to their true nature.
  • 6:41 - 6:50
To see that true nature in
    everyone and in all things.
